1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Sends Shivers down my spine Every time!!! Amazing flawless detail on everything Sofa and the IG-88 HEAD :D!!! One of favorite bounty hunters other than Fett, keep up the great work!

Hey MB,

Thanks so much! The Flame Tube was a lucky find! :)

- - - Updated - - -

I hope I'm not a debbie downer, but the flame tube is not the exact one used for IG-88, cantina, etc. It's pretty darn close, but not exact. The multiple seams and holes at the bottom should only be one seam, with a larger hole beneath it.

Scott

Hey S,

Well you are! Nah... Just kidding! ;) We all understand that the chances of us finding the "exact" parts the original designers used is difficult at best. We still have yet to identify 90% of the ship greeblies. For example, the Garrard Record Player Trim Plate I was able to find - I'm one model off but the part is almost identical to the one used in the cockpit. While it might not be "the" exact model, we are using an actual Garrard part. The fact that we have a Rolls Royce Flame Tube is pretty cool! And if we do find the originals... then I have an awesome piece of aviation history and an even better piece of artwork to showcase.

I certainly wouldn't categorize this as a "good enough" moment. If we're unable to secure the parts used, then we will most definitely HAVE to compromise during the build. As much as that pains me to admit. :)

Around six years ago someone on here scored about six-odd accurate burner cans from an entire engine. They sold them off on here. I picked one up down the road "second hand". So they're out there. I have no idea how rare, though!

WOW! 6? That is a lucky find! Sadly, they're only going to become more rare...

Hi Gang,

Just a quick Full Scale Falcon website update. We're still working out a few issues to include access. Also, we're working it so you'll be able to see much more of the overall project to include the Who's, What's and Where's. :)

We'll be back up soon!

Hi Gang,

Can anybody point me in the right direction to create "White" decals to place against black? I really want to add the text to the MK4 box using the Aurebesh font but I'm not sure what the process is. And I'm certainly NOT going to try to paint it. :)

The only way I've ever known to do it is to use an ALPS printer. They're no longer produced I don't believe, but I'm sure you could find one on ebay...getting the ink cartridges may be another matter entirely. That's if you want to print actual white letters on clear decal paper.

The other option would be to print onto white decal paper. The original document would need to have white letters on a black background. Then you'd effectively print the black onto a white decal, and voila, a black decal with white letters. Of course the problem with that is the black may not match the piece you're applying it to, and there may be some touchup required if the printed black doesn't cover entirely.

Hi

First post on here but I posted alot on the website.

In terms of the printing at work we have thermal label printers which we use for booking jobs they use white labels and print black I have used them before to print black and white stickers.
When I'm in Monday I can check and see which printers they are.

Hi SK

The ALPS printers were great for doing that very job indeed. In addition to white you could get proper gold and silver from them too.

As TMBBQ say, they are quite old now. I looked for one on Ebay a few years ago now and drew a blank on it. You might have better luck in the US though. Ink Carts are redily available on the plus side.

It might be easer to use the laser cutter to create a stencil and paint them :unsure. I know some letters have holes in them, which creates some problems, but if they are large enough you can use a little bridge and then hand fill it?

Screen printing white using decal and a laser cut mask could be another option?

Great updates as always.

PS Alternatively, you could always look for a print/sign shop with something like one of these https://www.rolanddga.com/products/printers/soljet-pro-4-xr-640-large-format-color-printer-cutter. They are capable of printing white. There are a few devices like this too out there, not just this one.
PPS There also a technique where you can print black and use a chemical to turn it white. Never tried myself.

Sofa, what can I say about that cockpit that doesn't begin with: amazing, cool, great, unbelievable, crazy, fantastic, beautiful, etc?

Hi TMBBQ,

Thanks for the lead! I looked up an ALPS printer. GULP! 500-1K. Doesn't make sense to buy an obsolete printer especially at that price. I figure this out. :)

Hi R,

Great info! Thanks so much. DEF look into it!

Vinyl Letter Stickers?

Oops, just noticed the "Aurebesh font" part. Disregard.

I do know the model guys can print their own decals for buildings, railcars and such. I've seen both waterslide and dry transfer. If that's any help...

Hi S,

I've been tempted to go to the local hobby shop and chat with the Railroad guys and see what they know. :)

- - - Updated - - -

You many want to look into rub-on transfer labels. Here's an example from Staples but they carry them all over the inter web.

Hey SB,

HMMMMM... Another good option. :)

Hey T,

I know. How wonderful is that image. Note the steel frame around the body panels. :)

Custom dry transfers. I've used these guys quite a bit...

Hi dDWw,

I hate to admit it... Never! :) Thank you for the very kind words.

Hi J,

Long time no see! Thanks so much. This weekend saw some forward progress but the rain... the rain... ugh ;) How's the SS coming along?
