I havenít checked the type of metal (magnet?) but this part baffles me. Itís almost EXACTLY the same shape and size as an Op Amp, a type of low profile transistor. Except this is nothing of the sort.

its solid metal, tarnished and looks like the bottom was lathed. (Not threaded) I found this in a thrift shop, in their hardware section, in a bin with a bunch of thumbscrews, spacers, knobs, etc.

we donít know whatís written on the Obi Wan transistors, if they even are transistors since their profile matches Op Amps, and these things.

if the things on the prop are absolutely transistors, these may be another option for saber builders... a vintage part nonetheless..

if if anyone recognizes them, let me know!

I have nothing to offer in terms of identification of that part, but that is a really cool find. The only guess I can think of is that its something used as a pin to join two other parts together. Doesn't look like it would be very strong, though. In fact it looks like the stem may have snapped off of something else already.

Maybe a "shelf pin" for holding up a shelf in a bookcase or cupboard?

Most I have seen have had a longer and thinner thick end though.

Hey @thd9791 ! Can you take a macro photo of the post end like in your first pic, but WAY ZOOMED IN on the tip?

It almost looks like there was a lead in the center and insulation around it.

If it's not a transistor or amp of somekind, I vote hobby train wheel.

Close-ups with newest camera I own. No core and insulation here, solid metal with bumps at each end. The rest is **** and grime.

Well, you said you found it with other switches and knobs, and this looks like a basic knob on a larger field of them

Looks more like a bit in the context of leatherworking...the kind of tool you are using to add snaps and rivets

These come in various sizes and shapes depending on their purpose

Maybe an idler wheel of some sort? I could see it being for use with flat belts in a phonograph or cassette player perhaps.

Interesting in that @PoopaPapaPalps has surmised the mystery chunk on the V2 also being a leather-working tool...

The posts on those leather working tools posted above all look threaded, though.

I think that could be it. Some die tools for punching small eyelets look very similar.

The threaded ones in the picture about are probably for mounting in a press. This one is probably for punching using a mallet.

Was the mystery chunk present on the V2 during ANH or was it added later?

The mystery chunk was added later to plug the hole that originally had a power cable hanging out of it (for the spinning blade mechanism used during the filming of ANH). The transcriptor nut/ cone knob takes the place of the on/off switch.

Thats what I figured. I was just wondering what the probability was that details on the Obi saber built at the time of ANH could have similar origins to details added to the V2 at a later date. Besides, has it been confirmed that the mystery chunk is a leather working tool?

Unfortunately No, I remember seeing the piece PoopaPapaPalps found and it looked really promising indeed, but Scott, who has seen and held the real thing up close, confirmed it was not it and he was unable to shed any further light on what or where it might be from at the time.

Might've dodged a bullet in that the mystery chunk wasn't. The RPF would've made the value of a 3 dollar stamp sky-rocket.

These little stumps hold film in place in old twin lens reflex and other medium-format cameras. You know how those SW prop guys liked camera parts.

in my opinion it looks like a die for a hand held pneumatic squeezer, or that thing that holds IKEA furniture together.
