1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang!

Early morning update! I spent the weekend reworking one of the cockpit entrance greeblies after a new higher detailed image of the EPVII MF dropped.

But first... mounted these greeblies in place

Time to redesign and rebuild this guy! Lots of great details about this greeblie were revealed!

Turns out there are at least 4 or 5 of this particular greeblie seen in EPVII. But we're doing ESB, but is interesting to see the use of the same and familiar greeblies in different places!

Sorry to bore ya with a redo... but we gotta make it right! :)

Hi Gang,

Quick afternoon update... This Kirby vacuum hose arrived in the mail today! I loved the look, the feel and how the connector looks - it's DEF a SW used universe greeblie!

For the past few days I've been telling you about some BIG NEWS! Well... Here it is! Me and several other FSF members / friends found a 1300sqft warehouse! We signed the docs and start moving in immediately!

Wow this is beautiful... the new version looks so much better... it's crazy to see that sometimes our perception is distracted by what does light and shadow can do in a photo! It would be interesting to see the pic of your starting point...vs the new one that made you discover those differences on the greebie.. Hurray!!

Congratulations on the new BIG "Garage" I guess it,s gonna be so much fun to have visitors now ... and to make them do a lot of sanding! LOL I would!!! LOL I can assume that your wife,s gonna be sooo happy to have her kitchen counter back!! LOL

Congrats, SK! Looks like you've got plenty of room for everyone to work. Does this mean you'll be simultaneously working on a screen accurate TFA version with steel support structure? :D Also, don't forget to make at least 2 of every greeblie!

Ohhhhh, Mega news. :D

Can't wait to see the build resume here!:thumbsup

Roughneckone:cool

Hey R,

OH YES! We're really excited. The best part... it's only 3.5 min from the house. I know... it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make. ;)

We're starting the move almost immediately. I'm working a new platform to incorporate the door track and upcoming corridor platform so it'll be a little bit before the cockpit is back up and looking like her old self.

Hi D,

Thanks! My starting point was/is the 1/6th scale Hot Toys Cockpit that is based on the EPVII cockpit. It's very detailed and they did a fantastic job. We never see the cockpit entrance in the OT so when the image dropped I jumped at the opportunity to design something similar while making my own little changes since we're building the ESB version.

However, the 1/6th version doesn't show ALL the minor details. The release of the TFA Blue Ray showed some very detailed behind the scene images of the interior of the MF. One such image is the side of the Nav Computer in the main hold. There are two of these greeblies in near perfect detail. So... if I'm going to do it right, I had no choice but to redesign and rebuild the greeblie.

There is still a fair amount of work to do on it but I'm happy with how it's turning out. :)

Thanks again!

Cool! Would the whole assembled interior set fit in there?

Hey LT!

Unfortunately, the complete interior wouldn't fit into the space but a good portion of the corridor will DEF fit, along with other parts - landing gear, radar, etc, and that's where we're headed. We have to be careful with how much we actually build because when all is said and done, we have to be able to transport everything. While doing the complete interior would be AMAZING it's not something we want to do in a very limited and temporary space.

Hope that makes sense? :)

Hey D,

Thanks so much! We're excited, to say the least! And yes, every visitor will be put to work whether they like it or not! ;)

It will be nice to have most of the house back. But it will be strange as well. This project has lived with me for almost exactly 4 years (OMG - tomorrow is the 4th anniversary). So not having it there will be a bit strange at first, but I'll finally be able to park in the garage. I'll probably continue doing smaller greeblie work at the house. I have two dogs so I DEF want to keep them company. :)

LOL! Thanks! Lots of room to work and play! Man... those behind the scene images of the TFA cockpit frame have tempted me to start over. It actually wouldn't be that difficult because all the greeblies are finished. It's just a matter of either laser cutting or CNCing all the panels and actually doing it right! Now... whether Daniel and Co want to rewire everything... ;)

Two of every greeblie? Considering this is the travel version of the cockpit... we do get to do everything over again.

WOW, that's great news SK. What a great find you've all got. Love it. I wish I had space like that too.

And HW, you mean three of every greeblie ;)

Hi R,

Thanks! It was a lucky find. Huntsville Scott actually found the place for us. I'm just fortunate it's so close to the house!

ok ok ok... 3 sets of greeblies ;)

Congratulations on the new home for the cockpit!

Hi FF,

Thanks so much! I'm sure we'll put it to good use!

Sofaking, are you planning to have the cockpit assembled in the new place, or are you going to keep the panels separated fore ease of modification?

Hi FF,

It will be DEF assembled but will still be modular for easy transport. The space allows us so much more freedom to expand the overall build. But we have to be smart in our approach as to not over burden ourselves.
