Mad Max: Fury Road

But there was nothing to the film. Yeah it was cool looking, but it boils down to let's drive this way, now let's turn around and go back.

That's like saying there was nothing to Star Wars except "let's fly to this planet, then let's fly to this planet." Or saying there was nothing to Kill Bill but "she wants to kill Bill." There's a TON going on in Fury Road both narratively and thematically, even if the plot is super simple.

You know, there is poetry in action sometimes. There is a lot that was visual. I can see why Miller would like to release a silent version.
Fleeting moments of great meaning, missed if your not paying attention.
Furiosa's face when she made that choice to turn off the road and there was no going back from her decision.
Max's "well you keep moving", a moment that meant so much more than just those few words. the look between those two.
Nux's journey was incredibly engaging.

Economy of words or story does not necessarily equate to less meaning and story.

Compare that beautiful simplicity to the garbage stories told in MCU flicks. Or pirates of the carribbean.

Fury road is that perfect middle ground between action movie and poetic art film

I liked both The Martian and Fury Road but except that both involve traveling and turning around I'm not sure they are comparable. Don't get me wrong I loved Fury Road but talking to others it seems like a love it or leave it type of movie. I also still like Avatar but man there's some serious anger towards that movie especially on this forum. Which is fine with me. I am glad a bunch of Academy Award people agree with me on MMFR however. :)

I realised that I watch this film almost on a weekly basis.

V-8.

I never thought I'd see a movie so shine as that. I hope to one day ride eternal on the highways of Valhalla, Mc'Feasting with the greatest Immortas of all time.

May my deeds honor them.

It's just killing me there are ZERO model cars from this movie. Is it the mish mash of cars used just too hard to license them all?

More like no car model company was smart enough to get the license for it. The closest thing you could do is kitbashing or scratch building them.

Good point. Maybe it's being negotiated. I would be surprised if AutoArt isn't already looking into this. They made the definitive V-8 interceptors (I own about 3 of them).

I have the clean version and one of the smaller scales. they are great, but man it took forever for those to come out since the films.
Imagine a 1/18 war rig complete with the fuel tank in tow?

Traveling-and-turning-around movies actually have a long history from The Ten Commandments to Logan's Run. It's a story as old as storytelling.

Speaking for myself, my disdain for Avatar is simple. It's just another White Savior movie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_savior_narrative_in_film) which is a cheap and offensive play at self righteousness. In this case the aliens are a surrogate for any non-white race.
