Hopefully this will work for you. or as you said could be a great night light

Izzy

Hey Iz,

WOW!!!! That is beautiful! I am so looking forward to seeing this mounted in place and illuminated - after all the filling the sanding of course. ;)

Hey Sk,
I’m curious, those pads, aren’t they supposed to be some kind of paddings in the corridor and not be rigid?

In this case, why not just

Hey B,

The original designers either used marine grade padding or they fiber glassed one after the other. In "real life" the pads would be exactly that - soft closed cell foam pads coated in a solid "rubber" like material. For us, it just makes more sense to create a master buck and then pump out one after the next. So long as we paint the pads to match what we see on screen... that's the goal. :)

HMMMMMM... we'll just have to wait to see on screen. :)

"Lot" being the operative word! ;)

... and it should go without saying, but I am amazed every time I see new photos and information on this build and have been following it for a few years now.

Thanks, K! We appreciate the continued support!

WOW! This is amazing.... WOW!

Thanks so much, D!

Those chairs came out amazing! Forgive me if this has been covered but did you build or buy your laser machine? I'm loving the stuff you've done with that thing! That little panel in this last post is insane!

Hey ST,

Thanks! I'm really happy with the chairs. As much as I liked the contrast between the silver and black, I think the all black just looks much better.

A few years back we were able to find and pick up a 53x35 100w laser cutter a guy was selling in Atlanta. It was a total luck find! The laser cutter gods were smiling upon us that day. The laser cutter changed everything about the build especially how I create greeblies. :)

I was just 30 seconds ago thinking..."I sure miss the weekend update"...and then it pops up. Thanks Sofa!!! Agree the Nav chairs look great!

Hey K!

Thanks! Things have been a bit hectic this week. I'll be out of pocket most of next week as well... I'll post when I can. ;)

Why did you remove those bumps from the seats?

Hey Lt W,

I couldn't get the right shape down and I was running out of the 1" half round rubber. I spent almost $400 for the rubber just to do the 3 chairs. I really didn't want to risk sacrificing what little I have left to only make a mistake. If I order more it's a minimum purchase of 100 feet. UGH...

Are going to to use some sort of limolium for the floor? Because the painted wood kinda breaks the illusion.

Hey OC,

YES! The painted wood and the grain DEF breaks the illusion! We are planning to cover either with some sort of laminate or Formica in a satin or gloss black. I think the gloss will be too much. There is a pattern that will be cut around the edges as well. So, not to worry! No wood grain! ;)

Just fell out of my chair and knocked myself out, but I am up and back at the keyboard. No need to panic, just another session of looking at SofaKing's full scale falcon . . . its a regular thing!

LOL! No comment necessary! ;)

Really nice !!! Good job man !!

Thanks so much, S! Appreciate the kind words.

Hi Gang,

Time for a simple update...

IMG_20180113_153302_zps4xc9qctd.jpg

IMG_20180113_153309_zpsso1q06l9.jpg

I then discovered these little drop marks...
IMG_20180113_121420_zpsywfmp5pr.jpg

IMG_20180113_121429_zpssvsrsu0f.jpg

Turns out the propane (said in my best Hank Hill voice) space heater we have is creating an incredible amount of moisture and the condensation is collecting just above the cockpit...:facepalm

Finally finished up the extension panel boxes and lids! Replace the old vacuformed lids for the beefier MDF version(s) and added the corner greeblies. The next cockpit will have all 4 lids opening!
IMG_20180114_132030_zpsqgn6me69.jpg

IMG_20180115_083710_zpsxucjcvdg.jpg

Those MDF lids are so much more defined than the previous versions
IMG_20180115_083718_zpsy1ny1ema.jpg

IMG_20180115_083744_zpsevhuxhad.jpg

Still need to paint the extension panels and add the pin stripes.
IMG_20180115_083751_zps1fadgawt.jpg

IMG_20180115_083809_zpsgjlojzug.jpg

IMG_20180115_083823_zpsn823pm7e.jpg

Finally... I've had these two greeblies forever and could never find a place to mount them
IMG_20180115_083834_zps5avu4vva.jpg

HMMMM
IMG_20180115_084116_zpsbawimmch.jpg

Perfect fit! UGH... Horrible pic!
IMG_20180115_084749_zpsqvqkr9oe.jpg

IMG_20180115_084758_zpsu72wnfpr.jpg

The corners matched perfectly. I didn't have to cut or sand anything
IMG_20180115_084807_zpsjvyuilyz.jpg

And this is where we are

No sanding!?! This never happens so you know it was meant to be!!!

That eighth picture down (of the "silver box" in it's place along side everything else illustrates very well my compliments to your attention to detail and efforts to go "all out". All the laser cutting, engraving, filling, sanding, and adjustments made to that ONE LITTLE piece, and to someone who wasn't watching this thread it would be lost among every other detail in it's area. Heck, almost the entire last update was about that one piece... You never cease to amaze Sofa!

"Taste the meat, not the heat."

Love the corridor pic. That's the bees knees. It was neat seeing pics of progress in the cockpit itself. We haven't been in there for a while (Nav seats notwithstanding, of course).

Not sure of the durability of your new floor coverings. Maybe a nice Seventies vibe with some deep shag in Avocado and Spanish Gold.

He's being modest. I can't believe ANYTHING has been simple on this build!

Yeah Wavey, Sofa has always been like that:rolleyes Giving us oodles of infos every single update! It's HEAVEN:cool:D

LOL! You guys crack me up! You are correct, Katuna. Nothing has been simple on this build except maybe spraying paint and primer filler. That seems to be the easiest.

Hey Joberg (and everybody else), the weekly updates with "oodles" of info might become a bit more interesting. I'm considering doing webisodes when Cockpit 2 starts. Once or twice a month (on top of the weekly updates) have 15-30min video showing work on a specific greeblie, the laser cutter, 3D printing along with the overall progress. Still in the discussion stage but wanted to know how you all felt about it?

An absolutely epic build. The ambition of this project -- and the results -- boggle the mind. :love

Hi T,

Thank you so much! DEF ambitious! I don't think we had any idea what we had gotten ourselves into when the project started. But it's been so much fun! Stay tuned... lots more coming!

Hey K,

I was as shocked as you were! My exact reaction was "...Oh you've got to be kidding me? D*%* right it fits!" ;)
