Hey guys-- I'm new. Everyone here is super gifted and amazing.
So the short version-- I was a photo major and a Star Wars fan in the 90s. So when i went to a photo swapmeet I knew what to look for. I scored a Graflex (and a dozen other flashguns) in a box for $25. This was 1994.
I knew it was the Graflex, but the other parts-- all I had was some guesses on AOL and VHS stills. So I tried to add windsheild wiper blades for grips (because this is whatever one thought it was then). When that didn't work I got a small sheet of rubber and just cut flat strips and riveted them on.
For the clamp insert I had a piece of gold plastic I sort of carved to resembled the ESB box. I should not, this is a one-button and lens eye ANh style otherwise.
For the D-ring, like I know a lot of others in this era did, I did the two-rivet hole picture hanger on the base. This was because literally the only shot of the thing I was looking at was the Wampa cave close-up.
I knew it wasn't correct, but it was close enough for me.
Flash forward to now, after TFA has re-excited my graflex love, and seeing what they go for these days, this has become a prized possession. Was able to pop the rivets and buy ANH style t-track. Since there are no rivets on the ANH the holes are covered. The clamp now has a lovely set of calc bubbles (thanks TCSS!)
My problem-- the base. The rivets on the grip had clearance once I pulled the rubber off so I was able to use snips to cut them and pop them out.
But the base, they are flush, and I can't reach them on the inside obviously. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting this thing off without totally destroying it? I can live with it if I have to. There's certainly enough variance amongst the props themselves that I can excuse being only 80-90% screen accurate.
