Since the Inferno squad helmet is literally a repainted Tie Fighter pilot helmet, it would much easier to just mod one of those helmets. It would be possible to add pieces of a Rebel X- Wing helmet to a regular Stormtrooper helmet, as that is literally what the original Tie Pilot helmet is- a Stormtrooper faceplate with rebel pilot helmet pieces on top. At the 4:28 mark in the video below he explains how they made the official props for Tie Pilots.

Sorry, don't wanna start a discussion, but do take Andrew Ainsworths with a bucket of salt. He is not a reliable source of information.

The thing is that if you're wanting to go game accurate, the BS faceplate is the closest option to making it work currently simply by design. However, I could argue that you would still need to modify the teeth as they're not recessed in the game like the R1 style helmet. The thing is that you'd still need to get the other half of the helmet, i.e., the dome and TIE ear caps to move forward. Not that it can't be done, but yea.
