1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hey Sofa,

Interesting to see they've managed to shoehorn the interior into the exterior, I wonder how it matches up with Steve's version?

Roughneckone:cool

Starkiller has done extensive work with his int/ext marriage of the MF. His models are all screen accurate. To the untrained eye the exterior changes are virtually impossible to see. However, there are even more changes done to the Full Scale Falcon version vs the on screen version.

This guy did a wonderful job at fitting everything in place (he DEF had fun with all the unseen areas of the ship) but I don't think its screen accurate. Again, to the untrained eye, it looks just like the interior of the MF and kudos to him for pushing the envelope :)

Just wondering if this is the mother of all mynock droppings dolloped on top of the pit? Will this be replicated?? :D

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update. Spent a good portion of last week and the weekend fighting a sinus infection and then nursing a sprained ankle. I was pretty much down and out. We're still fighting with the Chinese Laser Cutter controller config file but we're getting close! I did manage to work a few things...

I started to remove all the silver greeblies and I'm repainting them all to match. Some will also be redesigned

Not much of a difference but I like it... ;)

I then got back to work on the radio greeblie for the capstone panel - I might have to redo this one as well

I'm almost back to 100% so there will be much more movement. When the laser cutter is back to normal... full steam ahead! :)

Stay tuned!

Take care of yourself Sofa! Not great to have cold/sinus infection during the summer:( Apart from that, always good progress made in the MF cockpit!!

Thank you, my friend! I'm feeling much better now. Almost 100% :)

The laser cutter is still giving us grief! We can cut and everything works but we're trying to figure out why some of the Menu Bars are not displaying in English. And it just happens to be the menu screen where we tell the laser the speed, power, cut, engrave, etc... We're SO CLOSE! We're also expecting a nice reprieve from the heat. So I'm hoping for a good weekend!

Surly you use the software on the PC to do this. I never altered ANY settings directly on the cutter, always in the PC software… Weather (pun intended) hot cutting, engraving, speed etc.

Been some beautiful progress too. I've been here watching as always SK :)

Hi R,

Unfortunately, the config file that came with the new controller (V6.0) didn't work AT ALL so we had to revert back to V5.0. For example, the config file for the new controller was configured for a ~6x12 cut bed - far from the 35x53 bed size we have. Daniel has been championing this effort - kudos to him! We've been on countless forums which said the V5.0 file worked with our controller - that did remedy multiple issues. However, most of the settings, as you stated, are done in the s/w but because we went back to V5.0 it's been nothing but a nightmare trying to find all the correct settings - especially with the messed up language files. It's a step by step process. But we're savings all the setting / config file along the way.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm hoping for some forward progress this weekend. :)

Well. ya know how large flying creatures take pride in woopsying up your vee'hickle just after you've fixed it up, innit. I may not be able to find authentic mynock but there's a big ol'pigeon living on my roof that could do with being squeezed....

Send him on over... his change of diet might wreak havoc on anything and everything below him! ;)

Hi Gang,

Hope everybody had a great weekend! I think its time for an update... Early Sat morning I started moving more panels over to the warehouse!

Here we go!
20160730_073646_zpsw5r6ip3o.jpg

I spent a good portion of the morning making sure ALL the lower panels were aligned. I then cut these aluminum angles to fit
20160730_085236_zps4egjy0yi.jpg

Sanded and rounded out all the sharp edges
20160730_085241_zpsbmudzxpw.jpg

These angles will pull double duty. Not only will they keep the nav chair platforms in place but also act as a guide to ensure perfect each time

First one drilled into place

20160730_113421_zpsxemc3m7s.jpg

Although the panels bolt into place on top of the nav chair platforms, the angles will again act as a guide and also keep the corrugated mats in place

20160730_144629_zpscjs1esmx.jpg

Han's side done
20160730_144635_zpshvxid8el.jpg

I then painted the nav chair angles black - the angles on the main platform will remain silver
20160731_103717_zpsnpyozy9x.jpg

There will be several more angles added but I'm not at that point just yet
20160731_103729_zpslrvn2gsv.jpg

20160731_103742_zpsnyt2new5.jpg

Time to get these panels into place!

Saturday ended on a good note!
20160730_184623_zpslopzxchg.jpg

Sunday morning I took all the greeblies off the old Volvo panels. I'm going to see if I can salvage the end caps to use as a guide
20160731_095738_zpso0mydsr0.jpg

Lots of greeblies to remove
20160731_095746_zps93waesj5.jpg

And then we destroy it...
20160731_110838_zpsejpmgugg.jpg

BUT... before I can start work on the NEW Volvo panels I had to fix and mount the front window. I gently removed the 3/4" wooden guides that were mounted on the interior side
20160731_122251_zps1cuwxkiv.jpg

Sanded the surface smooth
20160731_122238_zpstdf5kutq.jpg

There was a HUGE gap at the lower center of the window and it was causing a lot of visual alignment issues... time to fix!
20160731_122301_zpsslrml2tk.jpg

Believe it or not... the center is the right side of the gap line
20160731_134856_zpsuomphhyv.jpg

Sanded and primed
20160731_134922_zpsuszkpest.jpg

More wiggling needed to fit the window
20160731_150248_zps9ydnb5fw.jpg

20160731_150317_zpswqufbivd.jpg

20160731_150328_zpsm8kwo2gm.jpg

The shelves will have to be trimmed out
20160731_150343_zpst2jdbbew.jpg

So... the big question... Is the front window now finally aligned and properly mounted?
20160731_152557_zpspgvipf75.jpg

YES!

20160731_152609_zpsnnvobn6y.jpg

20160731_150237-1_zps8mic2jsj.jpg

Unfortunately, scattered thunder storms prevented me from going any further... But... I was able to cut a few things with the laser cutter (she's still not 100%)
20160731_171022_zpspg3tc7z1.jpg

Those gas regulators have a wrench pattern and I wanted to include at the base where the pipe connects
20160731_171051_zps6myuv3up.jpg

20160731_171056_zpsmfr7fn25.jpg

The laser is SO out of focus! I had a tough time cutting just these simple shapes
20160731_171107_zpsx5yhd5iq.jpg

Pretty good weekend... Let's hope for smooth sailing from here forward!

More to Follow so Stay Tuned! :)

Love watching you put the cockpit together. With all the beautiful work (paint, pinstripe, greeblies) it really looks like they should "do" something. ;)

such a thing of beauty. Hey is there any update on chairs? I remember seeing something about the reupholstering, and the skeleton of the nav chairs. this is something I've been itching to see go into your build! I'm sure you're on it, just curious.
