Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Disney should.... Ruin is the worst writer and director of all time!! May he dissappear.

Just in my opinion, big, big changes are coming at Lucasfilm. It seems the sleeping elephant at Disney has finally woken up and we all know the old story about how you can poke and prod a sleeping elephant but when it wakes up, it tramples everything around it. I am certain that the first tangible sign of this that will become apparent is that you will not see anymore social media posts by anyone who is employed by Lucasfilm/Disney full stop unless they are first vetted by a superior. A policy which should have been implemented months ago.

Its strange that there were reports about people at Marvel getting death threats about a character not appearing in Infinity War but very, very little was ever said about it, especially on social media. It would seem that Marvel have a handle on such matters not enjoyed at Lucasfilm.

My only commentary on Luke's wardrobe in ROTJ... Watch "From Star Wars to Jedi" (and fast forward up to the ROTJ stuff). Lucas and Mark during the costume test sessions. Mark observes it fits a lot like his in the original film. Lucas responds, saying yes it's a lot like the original, but the black makes it more Jedi-like. Many non-violent, even pacifistic monastic orders in history have used black habits.

I only wish they'd kept that dark gray sleeveless kimono long, rather than cut it short to facilitate his stunt-work. From fencing in high school, lemme tell ya -- if you can't fight in flowing clothing, get a new teacher.

That's also what the early concept art for Phantom Menace showed for a younger (and solitary -- it was before Qui-Gon was added to the story) Obi-Wan. Black tunic and trousers, gray sleeveless robe. That's what I'm doing for my Jedi outfit. I reject the "George's bad memory" revision that the Jedi uniform is Tatooine homesteader garb.

Well one thing for sure...there is not (and there never will be) anyone else but him in that tiny bedroom.

As fortold in the Journal of the Whills (that’s the MEAD notebook that you see just behind his right shoulder), he will most assuredly lead a lonely, isolated, life and will likely die alone. But that is the price that such courageous people pay throughout history. And this...what some may call a "childish rant"....this is among the greatest displays of civil disobedience ever seen in human history! Move over “Boston Tea Party”!! This is the “battle cry of a generation”!!!

You can tell your children where you were when “That One Guy” used his allowance to purchase and destroy an action figure...nay, not a mere action figure...the very symbol of his oppression!! May he sleep soundly tonight upon his “Ewoks: Caravan Of Courage (TM)” pillow knowing that his video has been viewed 175,000 times (and counting) and no matter where he goes, people will point and say "hey, isn't that...'That One Guy'?"

To the isles of Toys r’ Us we must go with our wallets and purses to purchase—in a very respectable and orderly fashion—1 or 2 action figures. Then we must destroy these symbols of the evil empire!!

Yeeargh!!! Hazzah!! Hazzah!!

Who is with "That One Guy”???????

ANYONE???

...anyone....?

(Crickets....)

It has always bothered me that the Jedi didn't wear black...

Ten years from now when she retires I predict a chorus of folks proclaiming it was a forced retirement.

Because crusing someone's windpipe is gentle. Lol.

Lets examime this.

First the guards don't know who he is or what he's doing there. Secondly the only reason his friends are there. Is to save Han. And the only reason the Han is there is because he owes Jabba money. And in lieu of payment Jabba as accepted his frozen body. Why does Han owe money? He took a job of smuggling spice, which he dumped. Hence he is required to pay the price of the spice. So Jabba has a valid and legitimate business problem. And Han didn't follow through with a deal he made. So as terrible and barbaric as it sounds. Jabba is in the right. Now we now that Jabba is a vile gangster. A bad dude that kills people and smuggled drugs. So you might say, who cares if he loses money on the deal. Who cares if Luke Force chokes his way in.

I ask you this. Do two wrongs make a right?

No ... but sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire imo .

Really, still talking about Luke? You dont like him pushing some guards aside? Blowing up Jabba's sail barge after giving him multiple chances? Sheesh. Luke went to Vader to make him good.
Luke didnt let himslef get caught to join the Emporer.

Very black and white.

While I'd argue that the flippy baton-twirly stuff they used for fighting in the PT might indeed get caught on flowing clothing, long robes that obscure the feet is kind of the point of a hakama when you're doing something like kendo. Footwork is, well, foundational. If you can't see where someone's going or spot that they've shifted their weight, then you can't anticipate an incoming strike. Hell, that's why -- in stuff like anime or old chanbarra and jitai geki films -- you have the trope of the close-up shot of someone's foot shifting dramatically, followed by a big dramatic strike.

I had a guitar teacher in college who also did baguazhang, and we got into a discussion once about how, in something like kendo or kenjutsu, the nature of the weapon is such that you have to follow straight lines of attack. Not necessarily at, like, right angles, but you can't really move in a curving path and still be effective, whereas in baguazhang, because you're a lot more flexible and able to move unpredictably, the whole point is to always be moving in a curving path.

Anyway, apologies for the digression.

Indeed that may be the case in some situations. But this is the Dark Side we are talking about. It's tempting, it's seductive. It's like a drug. If you use it once, you'll probably do it twice. And if there's a twice, there will probably be a third.

Um, no.

If you go around choking puppies is different than hired thugs. The idea you cant use the force to defend yourself or to permenently stop someone who is clearly evil is not leading to the darkside. It is a tool. Thats like crying because someone gave a bully a bloody nose. *sigh*

"A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." "But tell me why I cant?" "NO no no there is no why!" - Yoda and Luke 'The Empire Strikes Back'

Oh my goodness! He clearly *attacked*, he' s joined the dark side!

He didn't use the Force to attack. Thank you for proving my point.

Let's say a Jedi could use Force choke or lightning without drawing on the Dark Side. Why would he? Why tempt yourself? That's like trying to see how close to a cliffs edge you can get before you fall.

Think of it like this. When people are struggling with an addiction (say porn, or alcohol, or drugs). The first step to beating the addiction. Is do not put yourself in a compromising position. If it's a alcohol, stayou away from places that serve it, or friends that drink. If it's porn, don't let yourself use the computer when you are alone.

The Force and the Dark Side is similar. It's "seductive" as Yoda puts it. So a Jedi would rather stay away, then put himself in a compromising position.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Jedis are supposed to be sheriffs of the galaxy. They go where bad stuff happens and correct things. They have a tool, The Force, to help them with those challenges. You are trying way too hard to prove your fundamentally flawed assertion.

You dont think Yoda uses the force to help him weild a lightsaber? To jump up yo shoulder height? When they deflect a laser into a different bad guy than the one who fired, another unprovoked attack! (Using your skewed observstions). You are wayyy to concrete operational.

A war is usually about an attacking and a defending side. Using the force to guide your bombs into a 2 meter exhaust port killed millions of folks.

But guess what...

They were defending.

I think your take on the Jabba sequence is pretty much on the money. Luke wasn't a "Dark side user" but without proper training he was exploring all the powers he found available to him with nobody to explain what was what. I don't think he was knowingly using the dark side but being tempted by the situation of trying to rescue his friends.

Personally I've looked at the force as a neutral energy, neither light or dark since I saw ROTJ. As an audience we never really get the other side of the story about the sith and Jedi. The force wielder is light or dark and choosing how to use an energy that has no direction. That jives a bit with the prequels which show the Jedi using the Force non-defensively.
