Halliwax's weird V3 theory

I was going to save this post for the weekend so we could have some more fun debating. BUT lets throw it out there see what you guys come up with....

Very beginning of ESB luke just gets whacked by the wampa, han enters echo base and we see its surroundings... we also see 2 dumbfounded hoth soldiers trying to use a V2/V3 lightsaber as a hammer (far right)

So the questions are raised

- Is this the clampless V3 with out the dueling rod?
- Is this the V2 with the rod already cut off?
- wait a minute before we talk about rods, is there even a nipple?
- are they even resin casts of the V3 at this time?
- what the hell are these soldiers using this tool for?! :wacko

let the debate continue!! ... when ever you think im done, i always have a way to keep stirring that pot! :$

Out guess was the v3, due to the graflex clamp with a long lever that never seemed to ever come off, it's still on the v2 today and was in one of those alec guiness shots where he rests it against his shoulder

In the SethS book, the picture he uses. It looks like it's got a clamp on it.

What about the saber they used for Obi-Wan getting cut down? I wonder if that was the V3?

You know that is the only photos I do not have.. I remember seeing the videos of the cape and saber falling. But can’t find it today..

If anyone has pictures of this and willing to share with me I’d greatly appreciate it

I almost want to say I see bubbles. I'm scared to say it, but both in this photo and the ones up there, I do not see the internals of the clamp, and I do not see a card. I see round light colored things. :eek

Now for the Obi Death saber, that was bare metal it looks like from the windvane up, and it had transistors on it. not sure what that means though

Wow—talk about a blast from the past!

I happen to know the guy whom, if memory serves, “discovered” that appearance of the hilt in Empire.

His RPF ID begins with “A” and rhymes with “Salley”. Super nice guy, so humble...and really not an attention-seeking braggart at all.

So if the V3 didn't have a clamp for awhile, then that must be the V3 that Irvin is holding.

Could the "death saber" be the V3? If it got a new clamp then we wouldn't see the holes made for the transistors.

Pretty sure the middle photos with the transistors is the V2. Smaller emitter face, and overall neck length compared to the V3 sway me to think so. It's not hard to tuck wires under the Graflex tab openings. I wouldn't say it's bare metal either. Pretty confident to say they only used the V2 for ANH, so that would mean that the emitter wasn't bare metal but instead painted to look more like the original Ben hero.

I'm going to consult The All-Knowing Oracle Of Kanye for an opinion on this issue. I believe he just returned from a journey to a parallel universe and has an open schedule for consultation. Please stand by...

IN the meantime, I am leaning towards the V3 as the Death Saber due to the lighter coloring of the emitter seen in the Death pics.

The ANH version of the V2 had a very dark emitter--the remnants of which are still on it today

Well the Hoth soldiers using the saber as a hammer would certainly explain the warped V2 emitter. As far as I understood that is a seam line and the entire emitter spun on a rod that attached to the motor. If you watch the video from Pop Culture Quest, Brandon spins the entire emitter at that exact point when Mark Hamill is holding the hilt as they talk about the mechanics of the "special effects saber".
