The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

Anyone here play Starcraft 1 or 2? Love those games, but no expert by any means. Just played through Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm and beat most of the missions on brutal. Not a easy feat at all. Online videos really helped.

I gave up and restarted and now it's going much better.

I've done that a couple of times. Either got stuck developing tech and running low on supplies/power for the ship or, can't get enough healthy troops to run a mission with all 6. I need to slow down, and maintain priorities even after the final countdown starts.

JediMichael, I have a couple of friends who do, one is really damn good, but I don't.

I'm currently maxing out my co-op characters. Got level 15 on all of them (including all DLC characters) so now I'm just waiting to hit 90 in the master skill category. Stukov has been a VERY fun character.

I've actually never played online with SC2, only a little in 1. Was never good enough to play others. Maybe now, but it kinda intimidated me. I am used to playing the campaign where if you mess up, just reload the last save.

You should really give the co-op mode a try. It's strictly Co-op so there is no Player vs Player element at all. The missions can be wickedly fun and the leveling mechanic is a great way to get to know the character you're controlling. If you have an interest, drop me a line. I'll play with ya. :)

Started working on X-Com 2 and it's beating the crap out of me.

This site helps, it's PC related, but the tips work on everything.

I haven't played for several months, but I would usually take two snipers, two assault, and two heavies. After you get psi troopers you can intersperse them in there. I think I usually used one or two psi troopers. You'll eventually get the hang of what works and there are other sites that have tips as well. Oh, you also want to figure out what role you want for each trooper and not scatter perks all over the place. For example, make a medic and only give them medic perks, or make a hacker (Specialist) who focuses on hacking. A biiggie I didn't initially know about is that you'll get a tool called a Skulljack. It actually increases your Specialist's hacking ability when equipped.

Well, guess I could try that. How do we play together?

One annoying thing about xcom 2 is that stupid reminder about the avatar stuff coming online, it really gets in the way when you're in the middle of scanning.

So I hit the friend thing and put your name in, not sure what to do from there. Guess I'll wait to see when your on. My sleep schedule is all messed, and Tuesday I have to go back to work after 2 weeks off. So staying up for like 30 hours so I can try and sleep by tomorrow night...so I may or may not be on tomorrow. (Monday)

nintendo really needs to fix the controls for their next system. there is no reason why you can't control the wii menu from the game pad. makes having the game pad as a surrogate tv pointless.

They also need to get on the ball and have everything previously released instnatly available for the next system. i hate this cherry picking of games even if it's not all their fault.

Nintendo's going to crash and burn with this new system, they can't even handle launching a glorified emulator right let alone new tech in this next console. I'm starting to really hate Xcom 2, you know you did something wrong when half the mods are ways to stop functions of the game to make it more fun. I'm debating on renewing psplus this month, i don't do pvp and the free games are cool but i can just buy them on sale on psn at some point. For what they charge i can buy a bunch of used games or at least one new one.

I'm playing Arizona Sunshine on Oculus Rift and it might be the best zombie shooter I've ever played only because of how immersive it is. Certainly it's my favorite Rift game to date. I love how the movement works - it's hard to explain but it's stepwise but also has freedom of placement and orientation which is intuitive. It solves the problem of smooth controller-based motion on the oculus which makes me motion-sick on other VR games.

While I agree touch controls on the Wii Menu would be awesome you need to have the wiimote to play Wii games so why does it matter? Unlike Sony and Microsoft they at least gave us a system that on launch could play the entire previous library with no extra purchase. They did the same with the Wii at launch. They have a great track record for that since the GC although obviously moving from optical media (which I'm thrilled with BTW) will prevent that kind of seamless backward compatibility.

Ya, that's a tough one with licenses and such. Although you have to admit, they're better than anyone else for that. Wii plays GC, WII U plays Wii, both have virtual consoles with a sizeable library of vintage titles. Much more than the competition gives you. I've always found I get more value out of my Nintendo systems than others. My biggest gripe with them is the lack of third party support and being underpowered for the past two generations.

Nonsense. Manufactured shortage or not (I'm on the side of not, it's the damn scaplers that buy entire store stocks that cause it) the NES Classic was a huge success for them. More stock will come. I expect to get one in February.

So i tried to get into a pvp game of xcom 2 today just to get the achievement before my ps plus ends this month, 20 minutes in the lobby and not one match came up. So it's basically a game type nobody is apparently playing.

I hate trophy that are tied to playing something online. There was one in Wipeout HD where it was something like 8 people had to play the same track all with the same ship...People had to arrange meetings online to get it all setup. I was like 6 years late playing the game, so I didn't even try for that trophy. Or in the Ghostbusters game, I think it was 10 of them were online, but the servers are now all offline for good, so no platinum ever.

I agree, even the diehards who go for every trophy in a game hate that. There's one in the Rare Replay set that requires you to play a game online that's got nobody playing it because the game is nearly 20 years old. I wouldn't mind this was as all you have to do is play one match but unless i can fake it using the custom game mode setup it's out of reach. Apparently the lead writer on the new Tomb Raider games has left Crystal Dynamics so I can only imagine the train wreck the next few games will be, they're already crapping on the franchise with this new live action movie they're planning. It should be a rule that video game movies be CGI and keep the voice actors. Naughty Dog lost the writer on the Uncharted Series and while 4 was okay it just wasn't the same.

I think it's just more popular with PC players than console (only) players. The history and fanbase that already exists for the franchise would probably only play in on PC anyways.

I haven't tried to play it online yet. If I wasn't currently packing, I'd play you. If you can't find anyone in the next two weeks, after I get set up at the new place, we'll get one going.

I've been eyeing Arizona Sunshine, but I've spent so much on games for it already lol. Bought the Touch bundle and a few steamVR games.

Dead and Buried and Unspoken are both pretty amazing, I Expect You To Die is really fun, but a little short, SuperHot is cool. Just got Raw Data but haven't played it yet.

Really looking forward to Lone Echo and Robo Recall. Lone Echo's multiplayer is basically Enders Game battle room, looks completely awesome
