I heard on the radio that TLJ made 12 million LESS on opening day than TFA and that 'Studio Insiders don't know why”.

It also made 16 million more than Rogue One on opening day. The anticipation for TFA was huge after a decade lacking new Star Wars films.

Saw this on my timeline today

One other thing is that I did like that Rey's parents are nobodies.

But I predict that it's false. Either Kylo is lying (how would he know?) or that we'll find something else later.

Not that this would be good. I liked that her parents don't matter.

I can tell them exactly why!
TLJ is going to make considerably less than TFA and its expected to. Sequels seldom outperform the first film in a series. However, TLJ is only the second movie to jump to $100 million in a single day - the other? TFA. It's also on track to be the second biggest opening weekend ever - again, just behind TFA.

TLJ is expected to make around $220 million this opening weekend, where TFA made $247.9. Insiders know why... and so does just about everyone else with some common sense.

He could know because he read it in her mind. They made clear he in TFA he's got that ability and she wasn't blocking him in those mind sessions. He saw her fear and played on it, which is exactly what Snoke said he did to get here there. Once there, play on that fear more to weaken your opponent before the final showdown...

Very good point

Finally can check this thread out, but at 20 pages, not reading all that. I liked it, but like most are saying, the whole going to Casino Land was pointless.
Even if Rose's character didn't serve a big part, I did like her.

Overall, I really liked the film.

If I have one major complaint, it's the pacing. I don't mind that the movie was long, but some of the pacing just felt..off. I can't completely put my finger on it, but I've only seen it once so far. So a second viewing may be in order to nail it down.

One thing that I did really enjoy is that for the first time in really any Star Wars movie so far, it genuinely felt like the good guys got their butts handed to them.

This was always the biggest flaw with The Empire Strikes Back, because the Empire really didn't. Ok, so they drive the Rebels off of their base. Nothing new. The Empire has been chasing the Rebels around since the beginning. Vader completely fails in his mission to either turn or capture Luke. The Empire literally has Leia in their grasp... and she escapes. The ONE Rebel they manage to actually hold on to, Solo, they give away.

I mean, I love Empire. Don't get me wrong. But it's always wanted us to believe the Rebels suffered a big loss, but in reality they end the film not much worse off than when they started.

In The Last Jedi, the First Order quite literally almost obliterates the Resistance. It's made very clear at the end of the film that unless they manage a miracle of recruitment, the Resistance has lost. That sets up some powerful stakes going into the next film.

I’m afraid this is true for now. This was a theme in the movie. Rian intentionally did not answer the “mystery box” questions left by JJ such as Snoke’s back story. Rey is meant not to be connected to the OT so the fans should move forward and forget the OT.

All this is fine, just don’t hide it in the marketing and leading the fans to believe there was going to be a greater connection to the past and that Luke was going to get a proper story and send off. This was Rian’s FU to the OT fans.

Who thought it was a good idea to have a droid doing the ironing... Noooooooo!!!!!
I forgot about that...

Or worse....piloting an ATST? How does he even get up there? I'm guessing that he has rockets now like prequel artoo

I'm going to take this a bit further. That whole scene was messed. Just as the are about to get their heads lopped off, half the Starship Hyperbole gets destroyed and the hundreds of troopers around them vanish, save for a few dead ones. But our heroes are still alive! Then Phasma shows up (Who I thought was there already) to fight with out survivors.

Not only that but getting it to run and jump over everything... Actually I'm laughing about how bad this really was.
Oh and since when have they ever had to keep their eyes on the fuel tanks?
Better not take the Millennium into that astro field your running on vapour!

You know what? the fuel was really the crux of it. The entire plot involving running slowly away from the first order was truly the biggest problem. Its the type of story that could work on a well written episode of BSG, but running out of fuel has only once been a conversation in Star wars.

Did they ever figure out how they were being tracked?

I share many of the same criticisms about the humor in the film. (Hubris filled comment ahead) I also feel like if I edited this movie it would have been at least 15 mins shorter.

Rey's darkside cave scene didn't really do anything for me. Super Leia's survival also really pushed the bounds of credulity.

But overall I did really enjoy it.
