2005 Series Dalek build

This will be my fourth Dalek build.
I started a few weeks ago so have made a bit of progress.
I made molds of most of the main parts from my second build so most of this one is fiberglass.
Unfortunately my molds were not in the best of shape, they were one of my first attempts at molding and were probably a bit on the thin side. I remade my dome and cowl molds and started to repair my other ones.

I started by filling the cracks in the gel coat with body filler, then sanding and waxing with mold release wax. Put about 6 coats on.

I then layed up the resin

The shoulder section came out with a few holes in. It had pulled most of the repair work out of the molds.

Next up was the fender. This came out ok. Just needs a little trimming.

Next up was the skirt section. Again the mold needed a little repair work. Not as much as the shoulder section though.

Came out ok

Layed up the fiber in the dome mold and cowl.

I have some more done and will try and get the pictures uploaded later.

that's fantastic! I can't wait to see the finished product. Nice fiberglass work!
I liked the Dr Who series up to the late 90's, then it got a little bit too commercial, now it seems better

It's good to see more Daleks been built on RPF.

Making fiberglass molds are a challenge for sure, it's one thing that I have not even looked as doing, so top marks for your
fiberglass molds making, and nice start on the Dalek.

Thanks for the replies.
Fiberglassing is definitely something i dont enjoy. I think my earlier molds had a few air bubbles and the gel coat was a bit thin.
I love your Dalek build Rassilon. The opening mechanism is amazing.

I had some spare 18mm mdf sheet, just enough to do the neck rings. Used the router to cut them and put the 45 degree angle on the outside.

Notched the rings out and put in the uprights.
rsz_20130527_153643.jpgrsz_20130527_154448.jpg

Trimmed the dome and cut the eye out. Gave it a coat of 2k filler primer.
20130526_181544.jpg rsz_20130527_172035.jpgrsz_20130527_144213.jpg

Poured the resin for the ear cages and the gun box details. I used Smooth Cast 65d.
rsz_20130527_172102.jpgrsz_20130527_172510.jpgrsz_20130527_174921.jpg

Cast the neck block details, started on the shoulder slats, im using a cheaper polyester casting resin with fillite for these.
rsz_20130601_173640.jpg 20130608_163234.jpg20130608_163251.jpg

The slats need a good sand, but seem ok.
rsz_20130609_173753.jpgrsz_20130615_144627.jpg

I also cast the gun detail parts. Would love to use aluminium parts for this but dont know anyone who can do them. Would probably be out of my price range anyway.

Thanks Baronvondoom, Dalek Cann was my first Dalek build, and was looking to build something a little different.

By the look of your setup/tooling and molds you have been interested in Daleks for sometime, looks like you have Dalek fever.
I got it about 3 to 4 years back and well, have been told that there is nothing anyone can do, I have seen some very bad infestations of Dalek fever
to the point were the victim starts talking like a Dalek contently, and collecting Dalek figurines.

I think you will be ok you just seem to have the Dalek build fever right now, it may not mutate into to more potent stage 2 "Metal Dalek Fever"

I will keep an eye on you during your build to make sure your not going to stage 2 but as I only have the Dalek build fever right now everything looks just fine and normal to me, nice work dude make sure you get a youtube vid for us with Dalek fever.

you guys are doing some awesome work! I can machine those gun detail parts, but like you said it would be expensive just for the one set, there is a lot of time in setups involved

Thought i would put the rest of the pictures up. This is where im up to now.
rsz_20130527_174901.jpgrsz_20130527_174908.jpg

Ive marked and drilled the mounting holes for the hemis. Also marked the mounting points for the slats.
rsz_20130616_164643.jpgrsz_20130616_165805.jpg

Cut and mounted some 12mm ply into the base for strength.
rsz_20130615_143940.jpgrsz_20130615_144007.jpg

I bought some push lights. Will strip them down and use the front dome parts for the discs around the eye stalk.
rsz_20130609_135634.jpg

Also got some metal soap dispensers for 50p each. Will strip the paint off and cut off the spout part. Will use them as the gun and plunger ball mounts.

This is what i have at the moment.

FANTASTIC JOB .... Can't wait to see the complete ... James, Barnes:D

If you need a set of the aluminium guns arms etc i have them for sale. Also full set of domes and DAF oil seals. Oh and the detail around the gun boxes. Pm if your interested.

I ask,are there some prints for dalek buildings?
I just discovered dr who,and would be funny to build some dr who furniture, like a dalek, once opened would be used a a bar of collectible area...
I was thinking about making the first one saw in the season one, damaged,as a old piece of collection....mine,lol

There are plans on the projectdalek website. That would be a good idea, would love to see it if you decide to build.

I always thought of doing something in a smaller scale as I have no way to make anything that big. I thought half size would be good. That would make it easier to radio control as well.

radiocontrolling would be great, especially with 1/1 scale.
I don't know if it could be possible to add talkie walkie, with voice changing, then, you talk and the dalek do same, but with dalek voice,so funny.
last but not least would be a "opening" showing the dalek inside.

I think a full sized one would be great but as I said I have no facility or space for building such a thing or anywhere to keep it. Smaller there's always room.

Just about coming to the end of my first costume build, thinking "Hmmm what next?"

A quick scan through the RPF vaults and found this!

Baronvondoom that is astounding work, love those rc Daleks!
