Rey costume from The Last Jedi (possible spoilers)

Noooo!

I don't have Facebook and probably never will, so I'm missing out on ALL of this!

On a belt related question, how many of you have issues with the tails not staying tucked in the slits? I've had to rubber band mine to make them stay when I have something on the bottom loop of the belt.

I find the discreet use of some stick-on velcro can help in such cases

USAJDM...

It really has!

Since I've gone over to Facebook I now Co-Admin the Rey Cosplay Community group, so it keeps be busy and I don't get over here nearly as much.

I *DID* make a pair of goggles for a Mini Rey using your lenses a month back. She LOVES them!

Oh wow, she looks so Awsome!
So glad the lenses got put to good use.
Hopefully a new project starts soon that we all can get back on helping each other out.
That first Rey thread, is by far the best one I've been part of.
Hope to hear more from you.
Robert

BTW, you find any advice you wanna share on her Obi, drop me a line.

I have never experienced this..... throughout the dozens of belts I've made. Perhaps the slits you're cutting are too big for the tails?

Quite possibly. I hadn't thought of that. It was my first time making something that needed slits like that. I was really surprised, too. I've been using little black rubber bands as stoppers to keep it from slipping, and so far that's working. Might be a confirmation of the slits being too big, though. It's really only an issue on the bottom of the belt where the pouch or holster is. It seems to be the weight of the item.

So, a few things:

On the belt, I haven't had issues with slipping, BUT I did have a 501st member help me dress the other day, and he threaded the belt wrong. Like Kristen said, sometimes folks just don't know how it's supposed to go, so they guess. ;)

On the holster, well *eye roll*. So dumb. On so many levels. Kind of like making a brand new belt while in transit on the Falcon. But it is what it is, I guess.

And something new that I discovered. Might not be new knowledge, but I'm not on Facebook, either, so...anyway...a friend sent me screencaps of a tutorial from FB about how to make the seams in the trousers. I did so with a practice pair and messed them up, so then I did another pair, and tried something else. I didn't cut them. The tutorials I've seen have you cutting the knees and then sewing them back together to make the seams, but I just put the pants on inside out, drew the chalk lines I wanted, took them off and neatened the lines up, then sewed the seams in. That way, if you mess up, you just pick them out and redo them. No muss, no fuss. Super easy and took all of half an hour.

Also, thanks for the pic above. Makes the belt/holster easier to see. I made a new belt for this version of Rey, and I didn't know about the not feeding it through on the bottom (I already do that on my regular Rey costumes, due to my making the belt almost too small - so I overcompensated on this one and it was too long at first), so I have both belts fed like usual, but I can change that if I have to.

Anyway, PICS! I just did links to make the page easier...

My source materials were: Amazon blanket dyed from a RIT color formula for the tunic, Desert Gauze by Yaya Han from Joann for the tabard wrap, a white cotton dyed grey for the obi, made the belt from scratch using leather/twine/waxed cord, Old Navy stretch jeans (scored for $2 at the thrift shop!) with added seams and no cutting anything, modified boots from eBay, Boots bandages weathered, made the bracer from scratch (a new one, as my old one from previous Reys was...meh), holster from previous version of Rey. shirt was just a basic wrapped v-neck I made - I don't remember the fabric.

Ha! Nice. Hit-Girl is actually how I found this forum. Was looking for advice on the Mindy Stick back in the day.

Gotta just post this here now...

Version 1.0 of my Hero costume.

I do have some revisions planned. The mannequin pics were taken before I made my hero belt, so it's got my Jakku one on it.

I attached the wraps and the obi directly to the tunic... i plan to slightly correct that, as it doesn't lay quite as good on me as I'd prefer... so I will revise that slightly

Here is me and a portion of Hero Reys at MCCC this year.

Looking at my wrap dress, I now plan to narrow it by about 1/3. I think it's too bulky

Hello! Does anyone have any of the Diamond Putty fabric scraps that they would be willing to send me? :) Let me know! I would love to see the color and texture of it. Thanks!

GUYS THE DIAMOND PUTTY FABRIC IS BACK IN STOCK ON MOOD FABRIC'S WEBSITE.

Unfortunately I had to make an account just to shout this at you all so I can't link it, but I wanted to let you all know!

here's the link:

https://www.moodfabrics.com/putty-s...JX_4iFvzppWXjze6LX2To7zRtpB_6B3gOz3wd7Tn-wQJE

We are anxiously awaiting swatches just now. the colour and fabric content are different, so we are hoping it will stil be close.

The new stuff is Polyester instead of cotton, and the colour initially looked much darker, although recent Instagram videos have made that look better. The chief concern just now is that it might be shiny compared to the original.

But fingers crossed!

Could you possibly share some of those Instagram links?
