Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm (after 2021)?

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Youtube is great, but since RLM, the amount of copycat style vids is out of control.

But there are a few who are actually making great, well thought out and edited content...

"Movies with Mikey" is a great one. Knows his stuff and is an excellent editor.

He also does videos praising what's great about movies so people can learn, rather than neck-beard regurgitating all the same clickbaity complaint crap.

Funny in the end RLM started mocking the clickbaity guys... Nerd Crew and Clickbait vids they do are some of my faves.

Like here's youtube content with something to say...

That is a brilliant video. How editing saved Star Wars was another eye opener for me.

Youve just given me an idea. As further MM movies are on hold due to contractual issues, give George Miller a Star Wars movie. That cat gets it.

How editing saved Star Wars is a VERY good vid... I took forever to watch it because I didn't think it would tell me anything I didn't know... I was wrong and recommend it to people all the time

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Here's the video I referenced. I don't like how he personally attacks some other you tubers and is a bit rude and snarky towards them. And I don't agree with everything, but he did make me scratch my head a bit. (Language warning is in order)

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Debate his take on Luke all you want, but he couldn't have Luke turn out to be a perfectly happy guy who has no idea what Jedi temple massacre you're talking about and just decided to come to Ach-To because he heard it was great fishin'.
Bro, there's a lot of ground between happily ever after and holding a deadly weapon on a sleeping kid. After watching the despecialized OT this week I can't get on board with Luke's throne room lashing out while his friends and sole family member are under the imminent threat of death with wanting to kill Ben in his sleep over a bad dream. ROTJ doesn't have a happily ever after ending, it just has a happy ending. There's thousands of interesting ways they could have brought back the original cast without being cliche, retreading old ground or turning them into abject failures.

For me Luke is the best part of SW, that was really driven home last week during the rewatch. The TLJ version of Luke is just way to far from the guy at the end of ROTJ. I can enjoy the prequels to an extent for some scenes, mainly because I don't see the OT characters in it ( Hayden's Anakin isn't Vader to me, and Ewan's Obi isn't Alec's Obi to me) so it's easy to enjoy it as a fanfilm attempt to show a poorly written back story to a great trilogy. I doubt I'll ever rewatch the ST films (even though I enjoyed TFA) I never wanted or yearned for episode 7,8 or 9. To me they are totally unnecessary, it's not like ROTJ left an untold story that needed telling.
For my money the ST is just an obvious cash grab using nostalgia to bring people into the theater. Star Wars was an actual story and vision, not just GL's but the culmination of hundreds of people's hard work, creativity and vision that was made in spite of the studio heads, not because of them. This seems more like "what's going to make us the most money", I get it's a commercial endeavor but you can't really put commercial advertising art on the same level as the Mona Lisa.
From an artistic or storytelling point of view, it would probably have been better to just let the original characters go, the brand name alone would have been a money maker without Hamill, Ford and Fisher. There would have been no risk to actually losing audience numbers or fans. Let's face it nobody was expecting another SW movie (outside cartoons) after the prequels, if LFL had announced a new SW film in 2012 without the original cast we all still would have been excited. It was a big risk to bring them back, an even bigger risk to make them have no growth or maturing during the missing 30 years.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Yep, countering one extreme by using another extreme is a bit pointless to me.

By using the original cast and not giving the audience the thing they most want, at least one scene with all of them together just because some guy with a round head had a rubbish story for the second film is all rather pointless as well.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

As YT videos are the soup du jour, here`s one released today that covers pretty much everything that`s just been talked about. Applying the "Johnson method", I will assume half will watch it and half will not.

Overt immaturity by editing the image of a person to try to insult them is a big way to get people to take the videos seriously.

pardon my eyes rolling in perpetuity.

Totally agree. Every frame a painting is one I love. "A guy on youtube talking about Star Wars" is a very specific thing that a waste of time no matter what the opinion being spouted is. Fan editorials are a complete waste of energy.

But quality criticism/education/academic level study? Bring that one. But if I pull up a link and it's a dude sitting in his room full of Star Wars toys-- HARD PASS.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

And if I just posted the raw link would you have even bothered to make a pointless comment? Pardon my eyes rolling just once.

And a guy who does the same thing but on a prop forum site probably with a room full of Star Wars toys. HARD PASS
Maybe some of these guys "work in the business" as well but just dont see the need to point it out nearly every time they say something.

Ben wasn't a sleeping kid, he's supposed to be in his mid twentys.

But anyways that why I like my Dark Side is influencing Luke hypothesis. It easy to see him doing something he would otherwise not have even considered.

Did you even watch it, or at least a little bit before passing judgment?

I wasnt even referring to the video you posted, You really should get out of this thread once and a while and explore other ones, its not always working out for you.

Well to be honest how was supposed to know? I just posted a video so.........

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Its called paying attention to all posts and having a sense of context to whats going on. And no, I didnt watch the video you posted. The "Johnson method" can be applied universally. If someone jumps in with a post while I am responding to a post, its not a stretch to follow on. Sometimes I prefer not to quote as to see the post twice is not worth it.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

What was reason Luke has to face Vader? He had to in order to become a Jedi Knight.

That's not why Luke had to face Vader.
Luke had to face Vader because Vader captured and tortured Luke's friends in order to FORCE a confrontation between himself and Luke because the Emperor TOLD him to.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

If you must know, it was review of TLJ, I thought the guy made some interesting observations. There's nothing wrong with sharing what another human being said.

2nd time that I've agreed with you on something.

Out of 657 posts, but... it's still progress of a sort. :cheers

LUKE "Then I am a Jedi?"

YODA (shakes his head) "Ohhh. Not yet. One thing remains: Vader. You must confront Vader. Then, only then, a Jedi will you be. And confront him you will."

Slowly but surely, soon you will be thinking just like me mwahahahahaha :devil

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Wtf, I lost my the whole previous post trying to edit it.

Meh.

You'll never be a jedi with that attitude, pal.

Oh, wait... you'll never be a jedi because you don't have midichlorians.

never mind...

Not according to Yoda in ROTJ.

In ESB Yoda and Obi Wan didn't want Luke to face Vader at all. They told Luke to sacrifice his friends.

Oh, we're talking ROTJ.
In that case, Luke had to confront Vader because he was his father.
It wasn't a "test" or a "trial". It was something Luke had to do.
He could not run from it.
You gotta face your demons, man.
That's what the force - light side, dark side - is all about.
At least it was when I was a kid.
I don't know what it's about anymore...

Don't get cocky, kid.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Interesting!

"They told Luke to sacrifice his friends."

In the cut scenes of TLJ, Luke tests Rey with the whole "sacrifice the caretakers..." bit...

Rey wants to run and save them and he's like "you'll only make it worse"... and she ignores him, like he ignored his mentors.

But it was a BS test...

I actually liked the scene... cut out the casino crap and do more of that. It made me like Rey more, it was a fun Luke moment... and I totally bought those creatures partying as Star Wars fare.
