Nice! Thanks for the shoutouts :D

You might hate me for pointing it out, but I also did another scar just north of the nut in the groove where the clamp bar used to be. It may just be reflection but it looked like more rusting to me there and made sense since that may be where the original but rusted the solder holding the bar on the original. It may have blended in on my photos. I also found if you use super blue paste and let it sit a little too long in that groove you can get some of that oily darkening color.

also yeah it’s a pain getting those nuts out, sometimes they fall out with just a couple bends, all depends how much solder was used. I’ve found that just using two adjustable wrenches like you have there worked well to lock in and twist the whole thing flat.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

I messaged you a really easy way to get the square nut out. I wish I knew you were doing that, I'd have saved you a ton of work. But it was really fun watching you fight it so hard. LOL

side note, are you sure that's physical damage on the clamp that you dremeled out? It just looks like gunk to me, like maybe the sticky stuff left over from gaffer's tape or something rather than a physical scratch / scar.

just curious what you were seeing there.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

To me it looks like rust. It’s consistent with how Graflex clamps rust in spots, and the places where it’s happened make sense. Near the opening of the square hole where one tab was removed, where the open metal is exposed, and under the sidebar where water and moisture could have been trapped before the bar fell off. It’s so concentrated and concentrated to everything around it and every other side of that clamp that is perfectly shiny that I think it has to be rust. It’s as dark as the black paint below it. It also doesn’t appear to change photo to photo.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

OK so maybe some of the plating had flaked off and oxidized.
Great eye!

Moving on up through the emitter on my build....

I ratted up and aged the gaffer tape and have completed the work on the sides of the emitter. I can’t say enough regarding how blown away I continue to be with the level of detail of these latest stencils from Trooper Trent—amazing stuff. I’m movIng on to the “bonk bonk” phase of denting the face of the emitter. Due the construction of this emitter face (with the removable face for FX adaptation) I am going with a light denting routine on this portion to avoid any potential dents causing overly dramatic mishaping and, therefore, alignment issues with the emitter face and emitter body:

Nope, I have a set of the first run stencils I believe, I'm honestly not sure. But I haven't even used them. I kinda just winged it with my weathering/paint chips.

Checkering file came today, did a couple test chunks!

Hi Dann. I am having trouble buying a checkering file in the UK so I was wondering if you have a spare test chunk that you are willing to sell?

Been trying to replicate the Kylash mark on the clamp and the bronze/brown/black color of the neck. I’m happy with how it looks, from a distance or with little light it looks black but up close and with a light shining on it it has more of a bronze/brown color. I took photos with and without flash to try and show how it looks in hand.

What colors did you go with on the windvane/ neck?

First I sprayed it black ,then went over it with vellejo earth brown, then I have a bottle of vellajo liquid gold copper,I let it sit for a few days untouched, the paint will separate and the copper will congeal at the bottom, above that there is a black/brown/copper color that matches the color of the windvain/neck almost perfectly. I dumped that top part into a separate bottle and used it to go over the windvain and neck area. I’m very happy with the results,In hand it looks pretty close to the actual prop.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

Hi there,

hadn't any time to write until today.
First: Thank you Danny for your great tutorials. I will soon get to stenceling and thos will help a lot.

Second: I thought about mixing my own A14 but fluoroboric acid is hard to get. So I used another chemical treatment.

1 liter destilled water
5 milliliter nitric acid
10 gram potassium permanganate
25 gram copper nitrate

The dipps take between 10 and 15 minutes.

Did anybody ever thought about a Steampunk V2?

I did...for just a moment, than I went to cleaning.

The outcome is just fine and as with the A14 the more dipps you do the darker the aluminium becomes.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

Did anybody have luck picking up one of those giant washers that Halliwax has in his video? It's the one he uses to protect the emitter when he's dinging it up with the hammer... it's marked "emitter" and is first in the sequence of washers that he uses. I went to Home Depot but their biggest size wasn't even close to the massive one Halliwax has.

Not to sound rude but did you see my emitter denting video? I make these videos to help, and fill those with a lot of information as well

In the video I state where I got everything. The washers I got from a new store in town “tractor supply”

Kinda a awkward store for our town but I’m not complaining. All those washers in the video cost me a dollar.. I thought the girl messed up at the register and asked her to double check and sure enough 1 buck

They sell their nuts-bolts-washers by the pound

If you don’t have one, I would try a lumber yard. Those washers would be used for “anchoring bolts” in a foundation, tell the workers there that and they’ll bring you to them

As a UPDATE, I am done working nights. trent’s V2 is done and I got a HUGE reveal coming with that.

Working every night this week with a surprise for trent.. fingers crossed on shipping it out tomorrow

I don’t want to reveal it until trent has it in hand, don’t want to ruin the surprise ;)

I promise I will be back, I got a bunch of new pictures, info and need to finish some videos. My life is very close to being back to normal, instead of having 4 crazy things going on we only have 1 issue left.. once we get this over and done with I’ll be back living on here

Thank you everyone for the kind support

Hey guys. Most of you are all sorted for V2s I suppose. But, I just a heads up, by next month, I'll have a new supply of kits. These "builders kits" will be nearly identical to the last run in terms of overall dimensions, but will have a simplified construction and a couple different assembly options so that you can choose to which version of Luke's saber (V2, V2ANH, V3, V3post production) that you wan to tackle. I'll be using the leftover prototype grip parts that I got from the shop during the last run which, combined with the simplified construction, will allow me to drop my cost from the last run and hit a price point closer to my original 2016 offering.

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

Is that emitter going to be more solid since there isnt a heat sink and stuff in there now?

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

Yes. It's will be solid, with the emitter nipple sliding into it as a blade plug. The builder will have the option of screwing the emitter into the saber neck and using it a a fx kit with a 7/8 blade. Or, you can cut the threading on the back of the emitter off, and have the emitter spin on a steel rod like the original.
