So glad I found this thread and now realise I am not alone in my odd obsessions
(although I'm probably still nowhere near my baseline!
There are some great finds by everyone here so thank you for that it's been really helpful. It seems like you
all have it pretty much covered. Just thought I'd put a few of my findings down too, for what it's worth.
Not sure if I can personally pull off the complete look with that cool jacket, but may invest in one in the future,
but was looking at the trousers , boots and top to wear as everyday casual as more of an 'in the sttyle of' 'K'
rather than an exact replica of the replicant.
I already have the Bates boots, and agree they a very comfortable and look very cool. I went for the 6" versions
as would be more versatile and the trouser turn-up will hide it's 'inaccurate' shortfall. Quite a few reviewers said they
come up a little tight/small, I am usually a 10.5(UK) so I went for size 11(UK - 12US) and that worked out just right for me.
To try and colour match the clothes is an ambiguous minefield. Between the original prop/clothing, weathering,
photography, lighting, post production processing and then monitor settings and now trying to match that with
internet shops with their own photography/lighting etc of products is really hit and miss. Especially when subtle
brown/green hues are notoriously variable under different lighting.
You would assume that NECA, when making their model would have used the actual costume for colour matching.
But with what appears to be brown trousers on the figure, I'm not convinced that they have.
Instead they seem to have used reference photos to get something that seems right to how how people
remember 'K' in the film.
If only we had access to the originals then take a photograph of them whilst holding next to it a photography
colour chart, that would solve it.
Or just drop Renée April a line and ask where she got the damn trousers and jumper/shirt from and put us out
of our misery!
Having said all that, from all the different reference images available for the trousers, my personal best guess
is that it is a green and brown mix but with predominantly green hue. This is pretty much a form of traditional
military khaki.
They definitely seem to be a slim fit (which I struggle with wearing due to cycling, they are always tight
around my thighs) but as mentioned some brands offer an 'Athletic' cut that tapers in at the ankle.
Everybody seems to use different names for colours and one man's khaki is anothers olive drab or burnt brown
but there were a few other colours (depending on manufacturer) that seem to keep coming up with potential:
Fatigue Green, Stone, Tarmac (Lee jeans), Olive Drab, Khaki, Green Khaki.
As recommended I have ordered a pair from ASDA (UK); The Boston Chinos in green, but also
Wrangler Arizona Lightweight Stretch Regular Fit Chinos in Khaki as were only £13 (seconds) on ebay.
I am really tempted by the 5.11 Defender-Flex Slim suggestion, they look great but hard to tell what the Oil Green
colour will look like in the flesh and am on a budget
Might have to add a little black/green/brown fabric dye to the Wranglers to tweak them depending on how they
appear on arrival, they could be a bit on the light side.
For the top I looked for colours: Slate Grey, Charcoal, Dark Grey, and Charcoal Marl.
My theory being that his top only looks black due to lighting, although is probably nearly black.
I went round every high street shop in Canterbury, but eventually got some online.
I found a couple of inexpensive options and went for 1 in black and 1 in grey and they are close enough
for me (for now
and arrived today. They are both of the 'Slovak' range made by Brave Soul London.
Around £13 each on Amazon/Ebay but if you have have a Slaters Menswear store near you (UK), you can get
the black one delivered for free all for only £10 - Bargain!
I can post some pics tomorrow if anyone is interested, but my phone is playing up at the moment.
Anyway good luck with the ongoing quest, I'll keep an eye out to see what else the thread finds.
Cheers, Rory
