Show your custom Lightsabers!

Here's the other Heiland SOL that I've been working on. Syncronar 3 cell shroud, Parks replica Graflex clamp, Magnavox Odyssey2 circuit board, d-ring and textured tape from The Custom Saber Shop.

It's nothing I haven't built before. The only major difference between this one and the one I built ten years ago this one are the grips. This one has eight, the one posted a few pages back has six. I considered painting the shroud and the grips black, but it would probably look a lot like a Vader saber. Happy with the way it is. I like shiny sabers.

A couple of future projects. After seeing RedButton's and Tim A's (D48thRonin) custom De Mornay Budd-based custom Lightsabers, I started hunting for one. This will be a no-brainer/very simple custom. (Grips, circuit board and d-ring) The long post will get chopped down, too.

The Peak 3 cell came from Ebay. The seller had it listed 3 different times. When he dropped the opening bid price and posted a couple better pictures, I couldn't resist and bid on it. It cleaned up very nice. The plating on the reflector mount is chipping at the edges, so I touched it up with a silver sharpie.

In one of his earlier auction descriptions, he said something along the lines of "If want to see what this flash could look like, google image search "Peaksabers" and check out Scott's D's handiwork on the RPF. :eek I almost fell out of my chair. I showed the auction to my wife and asked her if she wanted my autograph. :lol

The plan for this Peak is to make a "working" Peaksaber with a green blade and sound effects. The wife says I need to start building something different.

This is a "Grail" item and will not be converted. I've been waiting for one of these to show up on Ebay for many years. Wish the box was nicer, but oh, well.

I once owned a NIB Graflex 3 cell in the past, now I have a NIB Peak 3 cell, which I think is more rare. Not as desirable, but rare, in my opinion.

Really love the simplicity yet unique look of all the sabers that you've posted. They look as if they were pulled from the OT. Even just something as easy as changing the shroud from black to silver just throws a slight bit of uniqueness to each, and I just can't get enough of them! Really loving the weathering as well, very good job on it. Looks like it was sitting outside for a year or so, very authentic.

An old buddy of mine from college asked me to commission a hard ware/camera parts thing for him. I've been sticking parts together for months and finally came up with a good design! It even encompasses a Roman frag body! Here are in progress shots - tomorrow the paint will be dry and I'll get some glue to finish this off! (posting from ipod now)

That's a nice wood saber. I just went through this whole thread and there's a lot of nice customs here. I never thought of making a saber before but this is really got me thinking.

Back in the day, we used to have a contest on here for custom saber work. I don't recall who sponsored it, but he have out prizes. I did one under the guise of "what if?"...........Robocop had a lightsaber? I envisioned it to come out of his arm, much like the gun in his leg, connected by two umbilicals for power. It was a bit longer than most, and of course the customary "Robocop blue".

Finished up the De Mornay-Budd Saber last week. I kept it very simple. (Grips, d-ring and circuit board)

I chose not to cover the logo on the clamp. Looks like some kinda Jedi Yin/Yang symbol.

There's a flat bar that runs from the bottom of the flash to the side of the clamp and the decision was made to leave it there. It also determined what the length of the grips would be. (5 inches)

Gonna take a break from custom sabers for the rest of the year. At least that's the plan!

That's a really cool-looking saber...my only "negative" comment is that it's a little monochromatic, so I might be inclined to paint it up a bit but other than that, I dig it a lot.

I believe it was Luuke, who coincidentally just posted...but that's a cool saber...a little "bottom-heavy" cuz the pommel's so big, but a cool idea. Who doesn't love Robocop (the original)?

I've built a lot customs lately with a "silver-saber" theme. Painting the grips black would look nice, too. I think I'd need to bead-blast them to get the paint to stick. I prefer not to use paint on my saber projects, though. Just a personal preference.

Just out of interest, what do the circuit boards come from and are they hard to come by?

Magnavox Odyssey2 video game cartridges from the late 1970's. Fellow RPF member DrTayln turned me on to these. You can find them pretty cheap on Ebay. Sometimes the color of the boards vary. I've had yellow ones, white ones, and even one green one.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone. :cool

I only ask as I can etch PCBs at home. If I had the exact dimensions for one that fits, I could etch whatever designs you guys throw at me.

Heres one I did the other day:

I stopped making props so I could learn everything I needed to make my own custom saber fx system. I figured if I'm making the hilts from scratch, I mayb5as well go the whole hog. Hardware side of things is now finished bit got a bit stuck with the software.

I see a lot of these builds, but I never can find a flash. I like the look of these metal t-track Demornay budd flashes you've done so much I'd consider going off the O.T. collection just to do one of these.

If anyone has one they'd let go cheap... shoot me a PM!

The original screen used pieces were cut from industrial boards of unknown origin. So far, I've found the most accurate ones on Otis Elevator control boards. PM me if you want to talk more, lets keep this custom saber thread true to its name.

:thumbsup No probs, sorry if I went a bit off topic there...

Now THAT looks like a Star Wars lightsaber!

Yeah dude...I think its not only a personal preference...it depends greatly on the saber. I have a few with no paint...like the one below. There's a couple grooves I could throw some paint in but it probably wouldn't make much difference and might even look goofy.

Painting the grips on yours would probably look great...but its awesome just the way it is. :D
