i am very impressed with all of your builds and all of your products! you have the best 3d printed parts out there hands down! keep up the awesome work

Thanks tk427! Always trying to improve and with the help and support of so many people here on RPF it’s been an great adventure [emoji106]

After a few years of reading the eponymous threads for each DL-44 and collecting some parts to build my own, I am finally starting to build my first one. I have saved countless images and created notes for each blaster, but do you know if anyone has noted at what lengths the barrel needs to be cut and or modified for each version? It seems the most common answer I have found so far has been to place the required flash hider where it looks correct. However, my OCD would like some sort of starting point before cutting the barrel...

Unfortunately I don’t think there is a specific answer to this. For the Bespin just cut off the sight on the barrel. From there, depending on the flash hider you use it should just slide into place. For the hero the bull barrel needs to be flush up against where the Mauser and barrel interact. This also depends on who’s parts you are using. For my designs I have it as shown in the above thread. I’m bias obviously as I designed it but what I have come up with is the easiest and most accurate to work with as the insides of my bull barrel is male/female to an actual denix itself. [emoji482]

Thank you sir. More or less reaffirms everything I have read before. Line it up and chop it off... First up is a GK, then I have a Todd's bull-barrel to mount. That's the one I am more worried about getting right the first time...

Todd’s is a trick all to itself. Just make sure everything is centered and lined up [emoji106]

Speaking of the GK..

I’ve recently added some details to my m19 scope design. I paid homage to a certain films release date. Can you see it???

Hey on your Shapeways site, do you have the most updated versions labeled? :)

Sorry I just saw this. I recently went through my shapeways page and updated all the models to my latest designs along with adding detailed pictures to helpfully show what goes with what and where. If u take a look let me know if it all makes sense.

Any other questions just let me know [emoji106]

Here is how I go about my mag plate details. If interested let me know and I can put it up on my shapeways Page. Comes out looking really good imho that is..

EDIT: I realized I didn’t show how I go about adding the mag release button. So this is a breakdown of it until I can update this more specifically..

... how are you getting the look of the “press button” mag release? ... Can you share how you do it, as I don't see any reference to it other than using the modified Allen key to mark the center position? Thanks.

Ya of course! Sorry I guess I didn’t go over that part. It’s a pretty easy solution and it works out really well. I’m constantly trying to improve my builds so when I started modifying this part on the denix..

I realized I had to shorten the bolt that is used to hold the sight down. Otherwise it would be to long and stick out..
7ca39ff48e754ecf31c124ad31f5e366.jpg

So after I did this I realized I had a little bit left over which would work great as the “press button” on the mag. Using that exact template you got off my shapeways page I found the center and then mark it by using a center punch.

Next I drilled into it using a drill roughly the same size as the bolt. To make the hole bigger around it I used a drill bit like this one..

Here u can see the uncut bolt sitting in the drilled out hole..

Once I know how much to cut off I just make that cut. Make sure to use tape on the small end when cutting or there is a good chance you’ll lose it. Then just use a dab (to much and it will get messy) of epoxy to hold it in place..

Once finished the bottom of the blaster should looks like this [emoji106]

While the top sight on the denix can also be modified to look like this..

Hope this helps [emoji482]
