[emoji16] as soon as I have any kind of epiphany I'll post it here first!

Once my tunic is done I'll message you to get a Swatch to you.

I'm sorry for replying late, I've been pretty busy. But if you could, that would be wonderful! Then I could send that swatch to some of my relatives and see if they can have it replicated.

Just thought I'd share my experience with the Amazon blanket! It takes dye really well, super happy with the colour, and after it was dyed, I satin stitched the detail into it so the texture looks a bit more like the original Mood fabric. :)

Does anyone have any links to info on the poncho Rey wears early in the film? Specifically, what seams are present on the back? Helping a friend with some research.

Here are some screen grabs from the movie that I'm pretty sure confirm a seam down the back. I'm still not sure the exact fabric. I used an olied cotton. But I've heard it's just a lightweight cotton treated with a water proofer.

Thank you! That helps a lot!
I found this pattern (version D) that works well with few modifications (you just combine the side pieces to get rid of the shoulder seams but keep the back seam. Then bring up the opening a little to fasten closer to the neck.) I'm still on the look out for the right fabric tho. What I used originally is just too heavy but the right color. If you find anything you like let me know. I'll post what, of anything I find too.

Excellent. Thank you! I'm not making this myself. A buddy is doing it, but I'm passing along your info to her. :)

I meant to pay this a while ago. I found a great fabric for the Obi! It's slub duck cloth. Needs to be dyed but with Rey that's always the case ;). I also saw a pattern for an obi on the Ladies of the Legion Facebook group that I've been playing with. Reys obi just doesn't strike me as like Obi's we used to seeing on Jedi. It also has no visible closure, raw edges and no visible seams. So it it's like just cloth wrapped around her? Well this pattern makes sense of that. I'm thinking the ties would be under the widest part of the belt.

It has a a nice weight, heavier then the last stuff I used. That was also slub cotton too but much thinner. So this has some structure. But it is also very soft and I imagine with some wash and wear the weave will open up a bit. The slub is also much more pronounced. The edge also holds a fray nicely. The salvage edge is great but the cut edge also. It doesn't unravel much. I'll be dyeing it with my last mix (charcoal grey, dark brown and a touch of sunshine yellow).

Link to the fabric: https://www.fabric.com/buy/0569925/slub-cotton-solid-duck-natural

Here are some pictures of the fabric and a picture of the obi pattern that I think will really help give it the look. I'll post my progress. Should by dyeing fabric soon!

Thanks for these. It's get to see close details! So that belt...what is happening? It's prety clear it doesn't loop back through the slits. You can see that here but also in screenshots from the movie. Makes sense... The costume is thicker in the waist and it helps too have the holster hang lower. But if you look at the top strap of the belt the d rings seen flipped...or the strap is threaded through to the back side. I dunno, Kristen is the resident Rey belt Jedi. Do you have any insights on how it's made out sized?

This is simply a matter of the belt being put on the mannequin wrong.

This is something for everyone to remember: these display mannequins are not dressed by people that worked on the film...so many of these odd things we see are due to that.

You can see that whoever put the belt on just looped the tail through both rings and tucked it under the belt because they didn't know how it was supposed to go.

As far as seeing that in the film... I have only seen it that way on her lower portion and I think that was done to let the holster hang where they wanted it so it didn't interfere with the tunic.

Why the holster is even there without the blaster is an entirely different question :p

I used to say the same until I saw this screenshot from the film. You see that the belt doesn't go through the slits on the bottom. Looks like one on the top. I got so confused. Just makes me think there is also a sizing issue. But I yield to your knowledge Kristen :D

Oh and yes, what is up with the holster but no blaster? Good grief.

No I totally agree that the bulkiness of the hero costume is likely why it's only through one slit on the top and no slits on the bottom.

I just meant the reason the tails don't show at all on the costume display is because whomever dressed it did it wrong :p

Hey Morrigan, you ready to share with me what you've learned about doing the Obi?
My niece is driving me nuts over here!
Let me know what you've come up with.
Better yet, if you've made an extra....:love
Robert

Oh and hey Kristen, been a while.
Hope all is well with ya.

USAJDM...

It really has!

Since I've gone over to Facebook I now Co-Admin the Rey Cosplay Community group, so it keeps be busy and I don't get over here nearly as much.

I *DID* make a pair of goggles for a Mini Rey using your lenses a month back. She LOVES them!

Noooo!

I don't have Facebook and probably never will, so I'm missing out on ALL of this!

On a belt related question, how many of you have issues with the tails not staying tucked in the slits? I've had to rubber band mine to make them stay when I have something on the bottom loop of the belt.
