Thorssoli's First Order Builds - Captain Phasma FINISHED on Page 21!

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

...I have just made available a special version of those on the FISD especially to make Phasma's blaster.

Dangit! Just when I've finally finished printing off all of my pieces, too.

Can I get away with just printing a few new parts, or are they all new files?

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

You can get away with it by just printing these files from the Phasma archive:
- Folding Stock 1.1
- Folding Stock - Pill Cover 1 & 2
- End Cap 2
- Handle - Body
- Scope - Tube

Also I would advise to print again the whole tactical stock as I have improved the 3D model quite a lot.

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

I decided to make an improved version of the Phasma/trooper buttplate:

This will have the correct recessed area to fit under the belt. Other than that, it's the same as the one I already made.

Much progress on everything else in my workshop lately. I'll get back to the First Order stuff soon.

Stay tuned...

Mmmm... Buttplate... :)

All joking aside, I love your dedication and constant improvement to things!

My Thorssoli bucket out in the wild.

Mmmm... Buttplate... :)

All joking aside, I love your dedication and constant improvement to things!

I find it absolutely imperative to make sure the butt is the best butt it can possibly be. Some people can be satisfied with a substandard butt. Most folks might say it doesn't matter because the cape will hide it. I still think a shapely butt is important no matter what goes over it. Maybe that's just me.

In any case, I forgot to update this thread when I finished smoothing out the new, improved butt prototype. Here it is after much sanding, filling, and so on:

Then the final coat of primer:

Then my habitual glossy prototype color:

(because the butt might as well be pink)

Then I added some margins around the perimeter and layered on some orange tooling gelcoat:

The black bit at the top is some leftover gelcoat that I'd mixed from some other thing I was laying up. I had to put it somewhere.

Once I'd glassed over the mold, everything was left to cure overnight before I went ahead and popped out the prototype:

After removing all of the hairy bits from the butt mold and giving it a good washdown, the whole thing was wet-sanded, polished, and coated with PVA mold release.

Now it's sitting in my shop waiting for me to lay up the first new butt tomorrow:

This is a good thing.

Once I have that piece done, I'll have to re-sort a few things in the shop and spend some quality time prepping parts for primer and paint. Then I'll lapse into my usual pattern of hating everything shiny for a little while.

There will be grumbling.

Stay tuned...

Haven't visited for a while you are still a props monster Thorssoli!

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

I am burdened with great purpose.

Actually, I just keep getting grief from my girlfriend because I still haven't finished the rest of the Phasma armor for her to wear.

I'm not complaining though:

In any case, I've suddenly got a fire lit under me, so it's time to get something finished.

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

Everyone goes "Wow that's an awesome helmet!" :lol

It reminds me of going to a car show at 10yo. with my dad and getting a magazine of all the cars at the show with bikini models. I told my mom it would have been better if the girls weren't standing in front of all of the cars. :lol

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

New butt mold works:

So that's a thing that happened:

In case anyone was worried.

Now I just need to pull another one in white, mold my ankle spat pieces, and I'll have a full set of standard trooper armor too. Because I need that.

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

Trying to think of a 'girlfriend' joke that doesn't come off as creepy, so I'll leave that one be!

Awesome (or should that be 'ass-some'?) work as ever!

No worries. I figured it was going to happen one way or the other. Those pics are already getting ten times as many views as any of my other uploads usually tend to get. I guess the internet really knows what it likes.

Good thing she took a few of them:

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

So I've had this pistol casting sitting around for too long gathering dust. I finally decided it should gather some primer:

These other three too:

And all their little rail greeblies as long as I was at it:

So progress is happening again. With any luck I'll finish another thing soon.

Soon...

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

A post from thorssoli is amazing for the high level of whatever he is making but also for looking at all the other crazy stuff in the background.

...all the other crazy stuff in the background.

What's really cool is the other things that were behind me while I was snapping that pic:

That thing's going to be huge:

But back on the topic at hand, the basecoat is dry on the pistols and next I'll be masking it off for the gloss black and/or white parts as needed:

Stay tuned.

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

Wow!!!! Incredible - oh, to spend a day there :)

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

Yeah...

Oh, forgot to mention, I'm also working on an improved version of the gauntlets for the TIE Pilot and Flametrooper armor:

So that's a thing that's happening too.

Re: Thorssoli's Episode VII Builds (TIE Pilot Nearing Completion of Page 14)

Awesome ! What will be the main difference between the first version I have and this one? Will it be easier to open the squares ans the coin slot ?
