Custom Ancient Dalek

This is a big project I worked on last year for my portfolio during my Junior year of art school. First attempt at something this big. Made from a combination of MDF, Sintra, fiberglass caster parts and found materials. Biggest challenge was the paint job and electronics. Still need to put a motor in it but I'll save that for the next one, right now it's just powered like Fred Flinstone's car. The lights are powered by arduino and are hooked up to a Raspberry Pi running a pure data program that converts my voice into a Dalek voice. It also controls the brightness and color of the neopixles in the eye based on the volume of my voice.

Oh my God! When I first looked at the photos I thought they were CG'd! I had to really study them before I believed they were real.

That's an amazing dalek. I love it!

I notice that the eye stalk is different in the later pics. Does it still light-up, etc?

They eye stalk still lights up yes I just put a better lens cap on it. Added another lens on the inside to so now i get this really cool reflective reflect that kind of multiplies the number of neopixles in the eyes, sorta like when you hold up a mirror to a mirror and it goes on infinitely, only mine just makes 3.

Wish I had more pics but it's all apart atm.

Truly stunning! And this is in your Junior year? :eek

I'm on my last senior semester now but yea this was finished my Junior year :)

This would have been perfect for the episode Asylum Of The Daleks. It looks so good. It looks like a dead Dalek you might find in a junkyard!

Here's a Close up of the updated eye, Now I use the Lens from an old Tie Fighter toy with the two lenses from sunglasses. you can see the cool reflective effect you get with these. Still can't decide what's bets.
