My ASHPD Testing shall commence in 3, 2, 1

Re: My ASHPD Please look directly into the operational end of the device UPDATED!

I bought a few of them on http://www.conrad.com/ce/ (hope it's okay to post shop links here).
For example this wire here (http://www.conrad.com/ce/de/product...Conrad-SH1998C407-100-m?queryFromSuggest=true) in orange.

You can buy all the colors (even pink, magenta, azure, whatever) but not all cable diameters got all the different color palettes.

A few of them I ordered on Adafruit themselves and a few off of eBay somewhere from China :D

There seems to be a lot of German(?) on those links. Lol. I will check adafruit and I didn't have much luck on eBay, but I try to stick to American sellers for speed of shipping. Thanks!

Re: My ASHPD Please look directly into the operational end of the device UPDATED!

Just click on the language symbols on the very top or replace .de with co.uk. but I understand. I try to avoid ordering from outside of Europe too :D

Shows I know how to use a website. Strange it's hard to find anything off color for wiring without buying huge spools. Which makes sense.

Re: My ASHPD Please look directly into the operational end of the device UPDATED!

So I have made some progress. On with the pictures!

I needed to have the three rings nestle inside of each other and still center in the barrel. From largest to smallest you have the 24, 16, 12, and 7 pixel rings. You can ignore the largest ring. Photo credit to @ThePropBox

I was initially trying to find something to hold the 16 pixel ring in the center of the board using an interference fit. After a lot of measuring, test fitting, searching, and more testing I found what I needed. A small oil cap I had. I cut the tip off leaving a perfect hole in the center, more on that later.

An in progress shot and final after the sides were cut off.

Ok. I needed to center everything. I found a piece of 1/2" tubing. Drilled a couple of holes in the side and then cut it to length and cleaned the cut up.

More to come

EDIT: I'm not entirely sure why the photos are rotating. They are proper while I'm building the post. As soon as it posts everything rotates. If anyone knows a solution, please let me know.

Re: My ASHPD Please look directly into the operational end of the device UPDATED!

Heres the test fit of the cap in the 16 pixel ring. I cut a notch for the 12 pixel ring signal wire route through.

A little dab'll do ya. Some hot glue to keep it all together. It may not be high tech, but it will allow for maintenance if need be.

The pipe in place and a little more hot glue.

I actually had to glue in the 7 pixel jewel first due to wiring.

This is all three rings installed. You can see the white/brown wire sneaking through the cut out I made in the cap.

Heres as the face of the assembly. I was able to eliminate running two wires from the second ring all the way down. I daisy chained them to the third ring.

More to come

Here's the barrel before. I originally had a 1/4" hole for wire pass through with my old setup. So I needed to open that up a little to accept a 1/2" pipe

There you go. 1/2" hole drilled to 1/2" depth

And installed!

I am currently wiring everything up. I still need to test the input to trigger the color change for the Arduino. I used a button for sketch testing but have a different method for the final build as I am using a single button for everything. That has yet to be bench tested. I will update with more as fast as I can.

Thanks for looking.

For me none of the attachments work unfortunately :(

Thanks for the credits mate :lol

ugh. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to fix it when I get home.

I give it where it's due.

Wohooo, finally! Couldn't wait to see a few images pop up in your thread.
The solution with using hot glue may look not that appealing but don't ask how I put the Neopixel strips beneath the Xen crystals of the Gravity Gun. It all comes down (as you already wrote) to being able to maintain it later on IF something should fail.

Great work so far man, cannot wait to see the lights in action inside the barrel! :)

Thank you! It means a lot considering your work is so quality.

It's far from elegant, but sometimes simple is best. I'm currently trying to figure out diffuser options. The white foam was not good for this. I may need something dual material or layered to achieve what I want. The brightness is set too high I think. I don't want to adjust it just yet in case I need it to push through the diffuser. Thankfully that's an easy adjustment. I may adjust the speed as well. One step at a time.

I meant to tell you I thought I wouldn't make it with the trinket. My sketch weighed in at 84%. I was cutting it close but it works. I'm sure I could have shaved a little here and there if I spent the time.

In the meantime, ask and thou shall receive. I haven't attached the sound chip since I still need to test my button press mechanism, which I haven't done yet either.

Dude I just got myself some industrial diffusing foils from a company specialising on that stuff.
If I have my LEDs turned up to around 200 in brightness I only needs around 5mm to get the light evenly distributed without any hot-spots at all.

In case you can't find anything just drop me a PM and I'm happy sending you a few samples! Will take around 7 days I guess but yeah. I keep them in my desk if you ever want to get a hold on them :)

AWESOME! Thanks a lot for putting it up so fast!
It definitely will look great if it gets diffused the right way. Maybe putting in 3-4 layers of thin foil will do the trick too! :)

i wasn't aware anything like that existed. I will look into that. Maybe I can source it locally. What brand is the stuff you got?

Yeah it does! :) My foil is named MAKROFOL.
But I'm quite certain that this is only a local company.

I did a quick search and found a product that seems right. Actually two. One is used for photography the other for horticulture. Does that sound right? I'll look into the stuff you got. It seems like this comes in huge quantities. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the tip.

like this?

EXACTLY! Awesome!!
Be sure to use Makrofol LM 309 as they will provide the best diffusion of all of them.
I ordered some test samples of Makrofol LM 309 in 300 and 500µm thickness. They come in A4 size.
I'm sure they will send them to you!
The 500µm one is slightly better :)

Awesome you found them!

You can order samples? I was thinking about calling for them, but I will look further. Thanks again!!

I did call them and asked for a sample.
When they asked what for I said I wanted to upgrade the lighting in my fathers store (since in my case I only was able to request when having a company ;) ) and I would like to try their films to have it for comparision to other samples.
They happily agreed and send them to me. You have to be a little criminal sometimes :lol

I contacted a local rep and am waiting to hear back, I hope I have the success you have. Incidentally, did you get the matte or fine matte?

Since you seem to be the only checking in, I have a small update. I finally ditched the switch that I was using on the Arduino for the color change. It was for testing the sketch only. I implemented what will be in the final product and now have a small video showing all of it working off a single button. I went to install the sound board and damaged it. I have put in an order for another, I hope to have it next week. On to the video.
