graphite powder clear coat question

I'm doing some more nerf gun mods and i'm using graphite powder over a black primer to get a nice gun metal effect and it looks great but i have no idea what clear coat to put over it, i have a suspicion that i might ruin the effect - anyone have any suggestions before i start experimenting?

One issue you may run into as you are trying to seal a painted plastic surface is shrinkage of both the paint and the clearcoat as well as the plastic itself. This is why many painted plastic items crack or flake over time. If you can get a decent application method down, run with it. In the end a very light dust coat of clearcoat may be all you need.
