1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi sofa,
I just wanted to tell you how INCREDIBLY awesome your work is and that I'm a bit jealous actually, because I just do some - not even moving - graphics, as I can't do any better at the moment;). But as you may see, I quoted your post regarding the engine of the Falcon and I had an idea what style your engine tanks (?) could have. So I started my PS4 and made some Screenshots of STAR WARS Battlefront as there are some "barrels" that look like a star wars version of your design. Maybe it helps you finding the perfect design for the Falcon engines :)

If you need more screenshots or some specific detail shots, just tell me and I'll make them for you:)

Good luck with your project and keep up working on your stunning piece of art

Hey J,

Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

Sketching is one of those things I really enjoy especially if inspired! As many will know / tell, Joe Johnston was a HUGE influence on me. If you really enjoy drawing/sketching then run with it! Draw what you love but dont be afraid to explore different styles and mediums. :)

I'm loving the look of the end caps on those containers! DEF gives me some ideas for the engines! Thanks for posting those images. Anything mechanical or engine related would be awesome! But only if you have time! :)

Ahhhh sofa that's a worse update than no update at all talk about dangle the line.

Also on a side note I work in caravan spares and the amount of spare parts for boilers etc I see that I can't help but feel look and feel right for this project is mad.

Loosebruce

Hey LB,

I know I know... I'm a horrible person! ;) BUT...

I hope you guys/gals enjoy this next update! I set a goal for myself and I made it happen! I spent 4 days trying to figure "everything" out and it finally all came together - I hope!

I would love to see pics of the spare parts you have! Another fun project I had in mind was building a section of the waistline of the exterior. How cool would that be?!

- - - Updated - - -

Good luck getting your computer up and running again, Sofa! I'm looking forward to the photos of this weekends activity!

Hey FF,

The PC should be ready today - fingers crossed! Be on the lookout this evening or first thing tomorrow morning! :)

I can attest the new recessed panels are amazing in person, the depth and realism it adds to the interior really breathes life into it as if it were a living breathing machine. I'm trying to secure use of a human eye spaced 3D camera to get everyone a virtual walk through at some point in the near future. As for now just take my word for it that Greg really shines when he's got creative license.

And then there's the new (or is it old?!) cockpit for the Han Solo film. Or they might just be using the TFA/TLJ set. I don't know. But interesting nevertheless despite not being able to see much!

Thats DEF the TFA cockpit! :)

Maybe they finally learned their lesson after they kept trashing the OT sets... p.s... I think I'm in love with the girl next to Woody H. The rest of the cast though, I don't know. We'll see how it goes... It almost gives the appearance of a high school class (and teacher Woody H.) crashing the set. "Security!!!"... :p I was only mildly enthused about the casts of the PT, and Ep. 7, with Rogue One being more to my liking casting-wise, but I'll keep an open mind and give the kids a chance.

Casting wise, yes I see Lando and Chewie.

So, ESB-era yokes. Guess they'll be going for the 5 landing gear boxes then. :)

The turquoise hallway colour is an... interesting choice.

CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED

Hi Gang,

Let's get those latest update pics posted! ENJOY!

As many of you know, I'm working the upper extension panel boxes. I've struggled with the design and have gone through several ideas and layouts before finally nailing what I "hope" is worthy of the SW look and feel!

The weekend started out with my modding this greeblie
20170217_062601_zpsf617v0sh.jpg

I wound up having to remove the top so it would fit inside the box
20170217_064747_zpsrigkrxp5.jpg

I laser cut this design
20170217_064753_zpseaj6bbmc.jpg

And had the idea to design and laser cut these rounded "fin" looking greeblies
20170217_065915_zpsdykqbafy.jpg

3 layers of MDF sandwiched together
20170217_065939_zpsiqgadzmq.jpg

Where they would fit into these small slots
20170217_070001_zpscq2uhg96.jpg

20170217_070904_zps3zr22it3.jpg

20170217_070912_zpsfcuwafio.jpg

20170217_073605_zpsnzh7xjcq.jpg

20170217_073610_zpshkkbkkpb.jpg

Adding filler
20170217_153522_zps29fcmjvd.jpg

Now the layout begins...
20170217_153532_zpsczmgzsnt.jpg

I really liked the look of a panel I laser cut for fellow RPFer Fuzz so I decided to see how it would look inside the box
20170217_162106_zps6hipi7ev.jpg

Instead of painting MDF the standard silver I had the idea to use clear acrylic and back light?
20170217_163902_zpsxltx7mui.jpg

Tiny fins
20170217_163908_zpsocgxymla.jpg

20170217_163913_zpsmptlylbf.jpg

20170217_182719_zps0rehru6o.jpg

I really liked the look of the clear so I designed and cut a few more greeblies
20170217_182728_zpsmxvr5sij.jpg

20170218_110547_zpstgerkpsw.jpg

20170218_111813_zpsuy0y7kwl.jpg

20170218_111903_zpsxia8jcga.jpg

HMMMM... I just don't feel it
20170217_182736_zpsa0kqzwxe.jpg

So, I altered the design to include a secondary "gear"
20170218_103048_zpsxiym16ur.jpg

20170218_105909_zpsml5acwam.jpg

This one?
20170218_105942_zpsamysayvp.jpg

I like it but I just don't think it works with what I'm trying to do
20170218_110801_zpsiku9j0wn.jpg

Maybe rockers will change my mind?
20170218_110919_zps61bxyhli.jpg

This one would be painted silver.... hmmmm... Again, not feeling it
20170218_103054_zps0nw5kcae.jpg

So, I resumed work on the rounded fins while trying to come up with a worthy layout
20170218_103319_zpsrsjrpck4.jpg

After filling, sanding and several coats of primer
20170218_103325_zpsspkk4uqo.jpg

Paint
20170218_145255_zpsliveuool.jpg

20170218_145300_zpsrmpgzxsw.jpg

20170218_145419_zpstozmpdl8.jpg

So THIS is the basic layout for this panel box... I LIKE IT!
20170218_145426_zpspelun9zw.jpg

And this is the layout for the second panel box... I LIKE IT!
20170218_145555_zpskemt7jm7.jpg

I had an idea to include some red LEDs so I designed this greeblie to hold several LEDs and mount into the first panel box. Using the flat packing method I laser cut all the layers
20170218_123943_zps0niqiueg.jpg

Adhered them together
20170218_124000_zpsypoppeue.jpg

And away we go!
20170218_124649_zpsqxlfnmkt.jpg

20170218_124655_zpssdper0yu.jpg

20170218_124658_zpsjzb3fxwc.jpg

I hate filler! ;)
20170218_131733_zpsdn6hfk4l.jpg

While the filler dried I did do a few other things... I designed and laser cut this MDF pencil guide
20170218_132308_zpspohdilef.jpg

Where I began to mark out the lines for the armor plating! More on that later!
20170218_091533_zpsfzsaed2m.jpg

I cut mounting holes in this greeblie
20170218_140346_zpse495mhmm.jpg

Added putty to these greeblies
20170219_072310_zpsado5gogu.jpg

20170219_072315_zpshadivfqe.jpg

I gathered up some greeblies from the house
20170219_073549_zpsrhak2hp7.jpg

I had an idea a while back for this old vintage circuit board
20170219_090028_zpsi6hy8kaa.jpg

Bingo! Perfect fit
20170219_090050_zpsiug0ahsz.jpg

20170219_090055_zpsp97vsdid.jpg

I had 4 of these little guys laying around
20170219_090108_zps0cggsibj.jpg

Took them all apart to find the best way to mount
20170219_090131_zpswvsjpto2.jpg

They will eventually mount here!
20170219_090230_zpsuljo75qe.jpg

I'm thinking a blue LED would look perfect!
20170219_090234_zps2aupe5eq.jpg

Jumping back to these panel boxes... This is basic layout! I think!
20170218_153551_zpskebgbv7n.jpg

From this point forward its basically my trying to figure out the best layout... ENJOY!!!! :)

That is beautiful... and i like the red wire connectors for the first box.. it gives a punch of color.. and i absolutely love those fins you added.. made me think of the front window of the MF! LOL

For the second box i like the idea of the pvc pipe.. but i could agree with you that a white one is weird... try blue!!

I like everything else very creative choices...and those clear acrylic pieces... and the lights !!

there,s a subject that I would like to share my humble opinion... it,s been tickling the back of my brain for a few years (now we talk in years oh dear LOL) It,s about the weathering... I hope that at the end you will do another pass of weathering everywhere to make it stronger... i think you,re very shy about the weathering. maybe it,s a first step you,re doing. for now... even with the weathering you,ve done until now... it's still look like new... maybe not as strong as the laser canon you,ve done a few years ago.. but something more damaged, used, transformed, recycled... I thnk you understand what i,m thinking... but still a big fan...an admirer of your dedictation and craftmanship!

Feel free to send me to hell!! LOL Can't wait for the next update... To be honest i checked in everyday to see some new posts LOL.. Yeah crazy me!!

Thumbs way up..

Éric

I had my doubts when I saw your half circle fins, but they really look the part when you put it all together. The bays turned out amazing good!

The circuit board is a thing of beauty, and I think you've find an excellent way to get mileage out of your old fuses. Are you planning to put them in that position permanently?

Casting wise, yes I see Lando and Chewie.

Lando has the look I would expect in his younger days. Don't know who the actors is in the photo but he looks the part of a younger Lando. The eyes, the look and stance. Whoever they cast they got that part nailed from the photo. I can see Lando in him. They cast a younger Lando perfectly though.

Given the positions of the photo the gent in the blue training top is Han given his mirroring of Chewie as the crew of the MF????

Hope you get your computer back up running soon. I'd rather see your updates Sofa right now.

Alden Ehrenreich, the man in the middle with the brown leather jacket and blue shirt, is playing young Han. It's funny you say that there's nobody with the Han look - this is, for me, the first photo that actually made me think Ehrenreich looks like Han in the slightest. The man in the blue top in the upper left corner is Woody Harrelson - all we know is that he's playing a "mentor" to young Han.

So, ESB-era yokes. Guess they'll be going for the 5 landing gear boxes then. :)

The turquoise hallway colour is an... interesting choice.

Although this cockpit may be the TFA cockpit, they may have had to redo the cockpit hallway, and that's my guess - that they had to redo it, and those panels are only blue because they've freshly made them and not yet painted them. That's just speculation on my part, but the blue seems too strong and significant a color shift to make in the Falcon.

Then again, given Lando's penchant for the use of both blue and color, maybe it's not so unlikely, given that Lando's probably the owner of the Falcon at some point in this movie . . .

Anyways, sorry, to derail your thread, Sofa! I was just particularly excited by this photo and had some thoughts. Personally, I think you and the team you should all get together for a group photo in the style of the movie promo posted above, with you in the center in a leather jacket. Just a thought.

- Master Tej -

I think you should send your pics to JJ and ask him to give you a job to decorate the MF cockpit for the next movie;) No, seriously Sofa, ask ! These boxes are the bomb:cool You've been doing that stuff for so long now, that you have the StarWars look to a tee!!
