Rogue One - Jyn Erso BlasTech A180 Blaster Pistol

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Thanks @Dann! I've made the vent holes on the barrel a tad bit smaller. I've also retained the bevels of the receiver shoulder on both sides.

View attachment 697242

Things I need to do still do:
1. Greeble opposite the takedown lever
2. Adjust the small hole in the underbarrel rail to just an indentation and not a hole
3. Figure out how to connect the underbarrel rail to the gun (currently considering connecting it to the flange on the barrel).
4. Consider flattening the "flare" I've referenced before
5. Need to do testing on how specifically the barrel, shroud, and everything will connect. (This is probably where the 3D print guys will come in handy!)
-I've designed based on ideas presented in this thread, but I need to trial and error some of it. I originally planned to make pieces for a working airsoft gun, but it should work either way
6. Rear sights. I probably need to redo the rear sights for accuracy, as the model I'm working on is different than the one's like these:

I greatly appreciate if anyone could post photos of the rear sight piece, especially if it is of just the rear sight piece disassembled by itself!

For those who are familiar with 3D printing, how clean does the model need to be? Like what if there are tiny (I mean like imperceptible) gaps between polygons. I'm just wondering whether or not I'm going to have to go over the model with a fine tooth comb...fingers crossed that I can avoid this.

As always, head over to my thread for higher resolution photos and more details.
So THAT'S why the whole thing looked off to me, the rear sight wasn't right!

Looking better, I'm not sure what "flange" you're referring to, though.

And I still think the barrel vent holes look a tiny bit too large. Sorry!

Everything else is looking pretty spot on. I think the shoulder cutouts may have looked better before, I'll have to look back. They look great now, but the cuts were made by hand it seems, on the real prop, and do there's an angle there at the top of the part closest to the barrel end. I think I'd split the difference between what you had and what you have now. The very rear shoulder looks great, though!

Keep it up, it's coming along really nicely!

Lemme see if I can get a photo of the rear sight area for you...

And one more, showing what I believe to be the correct size barrel shroud holes.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

I cant wait to get my Luger and get to work on a metal version of the blaster. This is a replica of the belt we finally finished for it using a 3D printed blaster:

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

In the interest of improved reference, I modified my blaster with upgrades! I cut off the bottom rail and created a new side plate for the swivel sling.

Unfortunately it needs some bondo to make it more flush. But after some work, It looks like this!

And because I like to get people worked up, I started on further modifications to Jyn's blaster, courtesy of Battlefront reference.

It still has a Long Way to go, but a good start, yes?

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Not sure if this image has been posted in this thread yet (probably has and I missed it), but I came across this image while flicking through the Rogue One: Ultimate Sticker Encyclopedia in the supermarket the other day:

So, did you also rework the under rail?

You're gonna have to hook me up with these upgrades!!!

Also loving that you're working on the attachments!

Yes I reworked it, and you'll have to let me know how you handle attaching the upgrades. When they arrive in a day or two. [emoji6]

Oh, no way!!! Thanks, man!

I'll make you proud!

The side plate shouldn't be all that much of a challenge. A little Bondo goes a long way.

The challenge will be the under rail. I hate to not be able to screw things together, so I'm not quite sure yet just how I'll be going about tackling that.

Perhaps once the original rail is off, I could mount some pins in the underside of the barrel shroud. That'd be better than just straight up CA glue, for sure....

Loving it! Can't wait to see it all painted up and finished!!

Btw, you really should get the WE airsoft version to work with, if you haven't already.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Thanks @Dann for the numerous photos, they will be amazingly useful when I complete the rear sight.

I spent all weekend completely re-doing the shroud (sexy bevels), modifying the "flare" from the cover plate, and tweaking a few other components:

A-180 Left v4 [1280x720].jpg

For far greater details on what I updated, and higher resolution photos please visit my thread.
All comments, critiques, and suggestions are welcome!

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Hey Guys, I know this thread is already 16 pages in... but I figured I would post instructions on removing the sight and safety from the WE Airsoft Luger... Since it took me a bit, I'll save others the time of figuring it out... Also, sorry if my terminology is off...

Start with the slide / hammer in the up position.
Remove the tiny screw and plate on the left side of the sight.
Push the button on the "sight extender" and slide it off.
Remove the magazine.
Turn off the safety if it's on.
With the slide / hammer still up, turn the take-down lever to the 6 o'clock position.
Release the slide and remove the rectangular slide cover.
Remove the take-down lever. NOTE There is a tiny pin inserted in the take-down lever that will fall out if you're not careful.. with the lever still in the 6 o'clock position, the pin will be at 9:45 in a hole in the take-down lever.
Remove the slide by sliding it all the way forward off the handle / trigger assembly.
Remove the left grip by removing the large screw at the bottom of the grip and levering the grip up and off.
Remove the tiny screw holding the safety selector in place (Second to last picture). and remove the safety selector and the safety "bar". I put the screw back afterwards..
Re-asemble.
Note : the take-down lever will not turn back to 3 o'clock with out sliding the slide back a bit.

Re: Rogue One Felicity Jones gun - ideas

Good day,
When I saw that Jyn’s blaster was based on a luger, it went to the top of my list. Seems like the “old” days when many of the blasters were based on German weapons.
I wanted to wait for the movie in the hopes that good pictures of it would be available. But there aren’t many good pictures so I ‘ve endeavored to produce my best interpretation of Jyn’s screen used blaster. Thanks for this thread and all the info so many people have contributed.
Here’s what I did: Using 6061 aluminum.
Scaled and machined the receiver side pieces. On the right side I attached a filler piece to the receiver just above the grip to add support and add more metal for the threaded holes. Drilled and threaded holes for the side pieces. The Battlefront images were helpful for these components.
Machined the bridging piece for the top of the receiver and drilled it for the 4 screws. This part was difficult to be sure of so I have interpreted it as best I could. The barrel, tip, and ring were machined. Pretty straight forward as they are easily seen in most pictures. The bar under the barrel seems to be represented differently in many of the drawings , etc, I found in a scene that didn’t make it into the movie but was in some previews, where Jyn is running with the blaster in her right hand and the plans for the deathstar in her left. The blaster is shown in silhouette. The bar under the barrel is thin and doesn’t touch the barrel in front of the ring. It’s also shown when Jyn is crouching, back to a wall, in the street scene. I left a tiny bit of metal in front of the ring to help capture and locate the ring. The other difficult piece is the round greeblie in front of the trigger on the right side. Just guessed at that. Made an inner barrel to fit over and wedge onto the luger barrel and supported by the back of the muzzle tip. Assembled with screws where they show and JB weld for pieces where I didn’t want visible fasteners. The action does not cycle.
I like it.
Here are the parts I made or used and the final (unweathered) blaster
