Hey guys, I decided to post up a little WIP journal of my journey through this amazing model.
This sucker has actually been sitting on my table for about a month.
I finally had some free time so I decided to pull the trigger and start on it.

Some pics of my progress so far.
Some greblies left before I start on the main paint job.

Also looks like I got really lucky....so far, no gaps!

Looking amazing DS

Cockpit turned out brilliant,....a lot of guys had problems with the decals

J

Yaah, decals were a pain but I had a learning experience with my Enterprise refit and simply applied what i learned to the Falcon

Its a bit time consuming but it works pretty good -
I basically use Mark Fit decal solution.

- slather some Mark fit on the part that is going to get the decal.

- apply decal

- apply mark fit solution on top of decal and let dry for awhile.

- repeat last step about 5 or 6 times.
Sometimes Ive done it over the course of a few days.

- dip a Q tip in the Mark fit and then gently roll over the decal to push it down, then let dry.

Repeat last few steps.

Sometimes the decal drapes without the need for a q tip.

Looks great

I'd like to see some more pics how you attache the mount for it

Also where did you get that mount?

A member on the RPF by the name of Lab created a 3D model and posted a file for printing.

It required some minor modifications but it seems go work pretty damn well-

Quick question for you guys-

I was thinking of using aluminum black in the photo etched parts instead of paint.

Yay or nay?

Does that prevent you from putting in the "hallway" piece for the end of the boarding ramp or does it fit around it?

Good question, unfortunately it does prevents the curved hallway piece from fitting.
However, it it possible to cut the piece to allow it to fit if you dont mind a but of extra work.

Ive also heard of people using a piece of wood for the bracket and custom cutting it.

The model is actually not that heavy and if you epoxy it securely on all contact points it should hold up fine.

I used two part epoxy btw

Nice - did you paint the engine grills before assembly and then mask them off? Or were you not using them? I forget lol

I might go that route then. My concern is having something that causes it to start warping, or even breaking the plastic or the glue joint under stress

If you're really worried about that, you could always screw the wood or 3D-printed block to the underside of the saucer. There's room in the turret disc to cover up the screw heads.

Or, if you want to transfer the pressure down, you could use bolts to fasten the block to the saucer.
