ESB making of doc

So glad you shared this! Always cool to see rare behind the scenes stuff from these movies! Mark Hamill is just the best. His enthusiasm for the story is infectious.

I don't use Facebook. But already watching it on Youtube:

So sad to see Carrie Fisher prior to the ravages of a diet of prolonged drug use, chain smoking, and Coca-Cola.

Prior to her untimely death, her growing resemblance to Caitlyn Jenner (in both looks and husky voice) was very unfortunate to see.

Ok guys... need some extra set of eyes..

So I’ve had this theory in my head for awhile..

The black and white photo here I always believed didn’t have a clamp..

Now watching this video, right around 7:30-8:30 Hamill is talking about tuskin raider attack, and he’s waving this saber around like a mad man

Even spins in 360 degrees multiple times in his hands. I don’t see a clamp..

Below are some pictures, can you guys tell me what you see. I don’t want to say anything and “taint” your imagination. So I’d like for you guys to tell me your honest opinion

Gotta summon my boy @troopertrent for some of his advice

Here’s another thing.. check out the d ring. Let me know what you think about that

Also do you see a nipple in the emitter?

Also watching the video we see Hamill, take this saber holding it by the blade and tapping it on the ground. Ever wonder why the bottoms are screwed up lol

Another key thing too is listening.. listen when Hamill is handling this thing, is that a wedding band I here clanking up on the saber? Or is it the d ring flapping around?

If it’s a wedding band that is another possible reason for paint chips

The booster at this time seems to still be in great shape, few large scratches but primarily still covered in black paint

I notice a large D ring, more like the V3 and no clamp. Nipple has to be there since the blade is attached, with any of these sabers.

I agree...the clamp may have been removed for dueling purposes (and probably made the hilt 10x more comfortable to swing around)

Regarding the booster seen in the autographed pic of Prowse holding the saber....the surface of the booster looks uneven and also does not exhibit a straight line where it would line up with the clamp. I see what appears to be wrapped black gaffer tape over the booster. If so, this would support my theory of why the booster appears to have what is taken to be more black paint on the booster during the sandstorm sequence (the first scene filmed) than seen later in filming ROTJ.

I believe that what we could be seeing is very ratty / well worn black gaffer tape added for comfort after “A New Hope” and later ripped off after filming the sandstorm sequence of Jedi. This would also explain the appearance of the paint on the booster appearing similar to a painted surface that has been partially ripped off by having tape applied and then removed from its surface.

Here is a simulation of what I am talking about:

For comparison, below is a typical example of the “chipping effect” achieved by ripping tape off of a painted surface against the current chipping pattern of the booster on the V2, which was seen in this state within mere weeks of the filming of the sandstorm sequence.

I don’t think the v3 has a nipple in RoTJ, and they just shoved the rod into the emitter hole and used the 5mm grub screw to hold it

Can you guys refresh my memory has this been confirmed the v3 casting?

I think you can also see the clamps round holes so yea, although it has a nipple. Funny... I always thought the nipple was for stability, but they fenced without that in rotj?

Yup, I too swear I can see the hole on the underside of it. Can’t see the other hole closer to the control box, but seeing the clamp space between the booster seals this for me that it’s a v3 cast

Remember what I PM’ed you about a few days ago, I’m trying to do a write up here. But I’m overwhelmed with tutorials lol 1 thing at a time

You know, if that’s the V3 we are seeing Mark using in the documentary, if they removed the clamp for dueling practice.

If they then lost the original clamp, they would have had to have replaced the clamp for its use in Jedi.

If they pulled the clamp from one of Luke’s bladed GRAFLEX stunts from Empire, it may have come from a GRAFLEX stunt with screws through the clamp, similar to this one:

The most recent theory is the ROTJ Vader saber as the source for that clamp. Holes don't line up with the riveted one!
