SyFy's Heroes of Cosplay

Yeah, unfortunately these kinds of these happen.
I mean, I kind of understand. I feel like **** about my appearance too, so I will sometimes cosplay sexier things because it makes me feel better.
But I mean... I'm not a high schooler.
I'm just short and baby faced, that's all. ; 3;

If that's you in the avatar, nah, you have nothing to worry about. Really, every woman has some 'flaw' that they freak about. But as an adult, you know how to handle it better than that girl on the show.

Pretty sure they did

I was just saying that painting ST armor was not on the level of the costume that won. And his attitude that he should have won compared to the detail and build that beat him was the joke.

So you feel "judging someone's costume is PATHETIC"?

The whole damn show is about judging the costumes, so we are not pathetic for carrying that discussion, the results AND our opinions into the discussion thread designated for the show. That is why this is the HEROS OF COSPLAY thread.
Now if this guy had a build thread and posted photos, and we just trashed him with our comments, that would be one thing...
But put it out on a show to be judged and on national TV... Fair game. Sorry!

Yeahhhh I find it a bit offensive in a way how he honestly thinks his work is better than everyone else's. Like, as if he really feels he is that much better when people have worked their ass off more than he ever has on costumes.
I mean, look at Freya Willia 's N7 build. It has been going on literally for years, and it definitely shows. She works her ass off to make it that good.
Yet Jesse thinks putting in a few hours of work or even a couple months of work makes him some kind of elite cosplayer.
It irks me. I've seen what the people in this forum are capable of, and y'all's blow my damn mind. I don't know how he feels he can compare himself to the magic that is made here when he is at base level at best.

Maybe I should have said ironic. To be very honest I do see irony that there seems to be so much judging going on in a thread started by Art where the first link has to do with Yaya being judgmental.

I can't speak to the first episode, but if he was just painting football gear for Enclave Armor, that is pretty bad. While using found stuff is one thing, if he can't demonstrate he can scratch build his own stuff very well then he's not going to be getting the jobs he thinks he is.

That's terrible.

Might as well do a random 'wasteland' character, but if you are going to call yourself Enclave get it right.

What is that girl, 16?

Monika Lee is actually 21 or 22 I believe. She's a junior at Georgia Tech.

As mentioned earlier, I believe her issues are the influences put on her by both Yaya and Nigri and the attention they get since they definitely flaunt what they have. However, Yaya's cosplays have always tried to be as accurate to the source material as much as possible. She just tends to gravitate towards characters that have significant cleavage. Jessica Nigri will "sexify" anything and everything including an Assassin's Creed costume which I didn't think was possible. There's only one time I've seen Nigri completely covered from the neck down was when she cosplayed as Deadpool. I was hoping to see if Riddle (Riki) would have some influence on her as well since she does some amazing work without overly "sexifying" the end product and being as accurate to the source material as she can be.

With that said, Monika has done some amazing cosplays and won awards without going overboard with the sex appeal. Her Little Sister and Elizabeth from the Bioshock series, Rogue and Wonder Woman shows she can do it. But, her more recent stuff like her Diablo wizard, Blackbeard from Assassin's Creed and of course, the steampunk Poison Ivy definitely show the influence that Nigri is having on her.

As for the show itself, I definitely expected the editing for drama to happen and it's like a train wreck that you just can't help but stop and watch. I actually knew one of the girls from the season premier well before she got into the cosplay scene. Becky Young (Aktrez) was the one who cosplayed as Merida from Brave and all I can say is my personal opinion of her isn't all that great.

Monika is 21 or so?
Oh!
She just has a severe case of baby face, just like me! C:

Her mom was overreacting, then. Majorly.
And... I don't know why she was living with her mom. But I suppose it is cheaper, right? No rent!

She needs to get friends her own age instead of hanging around Jnig and Yaya.

I was on Art's FB discussion and she popped in the conversation so I peeped her FB page.

If her age is correct she's 20, and Jessica is 24, so they are pretty close in age although I know from experience that most girls age mentally a out 10 years from 22 years old to 24 years old.

I have no idea how old Yaya is.

Yerp, we were wrong about her age.
She just looks young. c:

T-minus porn shoot, 1.5 years.

A friend of mine who knew I wear costumes myself and am into cosplay shared a link to a site that was pretty much threads dedicated to naked cosplayers.

I was shocked to see many familiar faces, many who I know because they are on the RPF and many with Deviant Art accounts, which I've learned is pretty much porno cosplay. Many of the pics are from Deviant Art, others were either naked photos they sent out to 'fans' possibly for cash or photos they had taken with boyfriends they were no longer dating.

I thought the whole thing was sad really, like watching a train wreck.

bTW, don't ask me for the link, I'm not going to spread that around. Boy was it an eyeful though.

Oh yeah, there's so many of those.
Especially what with there being sites like Cosplay Deviants, Pixel Vixens, Geek Goddesses, Seattle Geeky Girls After Dark, etc.
One of the groups I'm a part of is web opening up a new sector where girls can be allowed to post "nude photos". (Softcore porn)

There's even that one Power Girl cosplayer who has Power Girl porn. (And yet none pertaining to using her breasts, ironically enough.)

I think I remember there being something about Precious, too? Supposedly? Not sure what the story on that is. Something to do with her breasts.

Cosplay community these days includes lots of porn.
I'm surprised at how many girls on my Facebook friends do thems things or even are "webcam models".

It's funny to hear so many cosplayers up in arms that they don't want sex to sell costumes, they want craftsmanship to be what they are known for- yet they seem to think showing naked pics of themselves will make them famous faster.

I mean, honestly, I've been a bit peeved with Volpin since his head has definitely been inflating over the years, but he does definitely deserve a panel. His work is beautiful and has major variety to it.

Wait... what?!?? Have you ever talked to Harrison?!? That is one humble and thankful dude if I have ever seen one! I have had quite a few opportunities to work with him and have found him to be amazingly down to earth considering where he finds himself today. He came from a very small start and has worked his butt off to get where he is. He, like Jessica, benefited greatly from the social media surge, but he is where he is through blood and sweat and I have never seen it going to his head.

The cosplay community is harsh, hypocritical, and terrifying.

Which is funny, because y'all's are the sweetest people on earth, always telling each other "good job" and such.

It's completely flipped here.
But even the genders are flipped, in reality.
Cosplay community thinks girls are the majority in the costuming world, RPF shows the opposite, altogether the costuming world is 50/50.

Lately its just seemed like he's really been pawning things off on people.
"Go like this page if you like me, because they're my friend."
"Go buy this by this person because I'm not gonna make this anymore"
Advertising this and that because he knows people will do it, considering his standing.

Which has just been really disappointing, because he honestly is the reason I first became interested in this hobby. :C

It's just seemed like he has really, really changed personality-wise.
Mayhaps my buddy and I have just been viewing his actions wrong?? In which, we're sorry. ; 3; (or at least I am LOL)
