1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hard to say anything that hasn't already been said. The cockpit is staggeringly gorgeous and starting to look like a cohesive whole.

Great update SK.

Been watching this for a loooonnng time and just gotta say how great it is looking. I am an Industrial Design Engineer who doesn't live too far from you guys over around Tupelo. I was just over that way not too long ago when me and wife took our son to Cathedral Caverns for a weekend trip. Keep up the good work! Hope to see it in person one day.

Coming back to this thread never gets old! I can't wait for when you finish the cockpit and *cough* move on to the rest of the ship!!

Looking awesome

Thanks, W! This is the last weekend she'll be together before we tear down to mod some of the panels and then load up to Wash DC!

WOW, jaw drops to the floor. That video was excellent as well. Loved seeing her in action.

Hey Hey R,

Sorry about the "jaw". ;)

The folks at wired did a fantastic job with the video. We're still flying high and it DEF put a fire under our collective butts to keep moving forward.

This might be one of my favorite updates in a long time! I don't want to be a bother and pester you to work on certain things, but part of me was like, "When is he going to do the light bars and the flooring?" every week. :) So it was cool to see them both worked on here! I really like the "taking care of odds and ends" stuff.

How much room is there to slide the console forward? Is it like inches, or a foot?

Interesting about the pin-stripes separating. I've seen a lot of pin-striping done where they overlap the corners and I wondered why they did that because it perceptibly added thickness. But it prevents this issue, so maybe that was the rationale.

The pool hoses look great.

You know, the whole thing will look awesome on display, but I hope that someone comes along and tells you it looks like a piece of junk, just so you can perfectly reply, "She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. I've made a lot of special modifications myself."

Hey LtW!

I was asking myself those exact same questions. It's all these little things that continually got pushed back in favor of other and more "important" details - sadly, they are ALL important! ;)

The console has about 12-15 inches (maybe) of forward movement. That will DEF help with folks getting in and out of the seats. As you may know, that particular detail has remained a mystery and a source of GREAT angst trying to figure out.

I love the pool hose. I was going to hold off doing it, but it only took a couple of minutes to install. The corrugated rubber flooring had to wait until the end of the day to allow for the adhesive to dry so I figured I would just knock it out. I love it! Still not sure whether to include the curved hose around and over the maintenance panel but its DEF growing on me.

I'm hoping I get that exact comment! ;)

Yup, that's a hugely exciting update with the pads in place.

Thanks, W! The pads changed everything! Now I have to figure out how to make the actual corridor wall pads - I think I have a good idea...

You're not too far at all! After the Escape Velocity show, maybe we can set up a time to stop by and geek out! We can always use a Design Engineer's opinion and a new set of eyes... :)

Hey a,

Thank you! There are some big things happening after the DC show. We're hoping for some real forward progress! While this is all going on, I'll continue work on the 1:4 scale along with planning out a few 1:1 scale projects. Maybe the gunner station? Landing gear? Radar? Nav computer or couch? ;)

Your "fooling around" with the pool house looks great! I really adds the ESB-feeling of the Falcon constantly about to break down!

Thanks, FF! I'm still not sure, as I mentioned, whether to wrap the hose down and over top of the maintenance panel but it really does look like the beginnings of the familiar "state of chaos" we love about the Falcon. It DEF needs more random wire looms and stray hoses.

In idea about the pads:

Some of the pads you have made are obviously more dirty and dented than others. Would it be an idea to concentrate those on the lower parts of the corridor and door frames, where people are more likely to bump their (dirty) boots into them?

I look forward to seeing you use your magic on the 3D printed chair parts!

Hi Gang,

Another quick morning update! Woke up a few hours earlier than normal to give me a little more time over this last weekend before the SciFi Con

Added the dark wash to the pads

You're a braver man than me. I don't think I'd want to take that 3D print and throw a bunch of goop and paint al over it. I'd worry I wouldn't eventually clean it up enough and feel like I was ruining it.

By the way, what's on your list of things to take care of before the con?

Hey FF,

I DEF thought about grouping the more damaged pads together leaving the less damaged pads higher up. Honestly, I can't remember if that's what I actually did but I'll take some pics. :)

The Nav Chair magic has begun! Let's hope for success

Cowl looks fantastic -can't wait to see what you do with it.

Thanks, SB! First priority is to smooth the anomalies then hide the holes and 3D print texture. If I'm successful, we'll make a mold and crank out a few!

I'm even considering making a kit of the Nav Chair but I really have no idea what the demand would be?

Looking good Sofaking01. Awesome work on the head box.

Thanks, Iz!

Just working off your printed masterpiece! ;)

LOL! I know exactly how you feel! The first couple of primer coats and filler ALWAYS leaves me with the feeling that I may have made A HUGE mistake. But you just have to take the time to sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, etc... If I'm lucky, everything will turn out. Fingers crossed!

To Do List:

1) Lay last piece of corrugated rubber mat / paint nav chair riser platform(s)

2) Drill holes for Nav Chair Pedestals / "L" Bracket mounts

3) Laser cut acrylic light bar acrylic

4) Finish last of the wiring: Light bars, fix broken LED connections, change out misplaced 1" tiles

5) Hang Door and track

6) Pin stripe and greeblie Volvo Panels

7) Mount captain chairs to pedestals and to main nose floor

8) Add wood support strip to interior side of Cockpit Entrance Capstone Panel

I may have missed a few things...

Hi Gang,

Another early morning update! Enjoy!

I decided to repaint the cockpit entrance side pads. I'm not sure exactly what happened but they didn't look right compared to the interior side so I'll simply repaint and weather, Not a show stopper by any means!

You can see the visual difference between the new capstone pad and a older version...

Let's repaint!

When painted black and weathered, it will hide most of the imperfections - but it is a used and beat up part :)

Hi Gang,

PLEASE READ!!!! I'm looking through "all" our posts and certain words in misc posts have been underlined and linked to others sites using Viglink - a outbound-traffic monetization service?

It's not isolated to just this thread. The links are ALL OVER the RPF site. I can't edit the text to remove the link. Are the admins aware of this?

What the heck is going on?

EDIT: Looks like the admins fixed! :)
