Anovos Ghostbusters Proton Pack Kit

"So, this kit doesn't come with the Alice frame or straps and the majority of the parts are plastic? Hmmmm Also no lights or sounds? How is this kit worth even $600?"

Actually, for $ 600, it's a bargain. Manufacturers have to do the R&D, make the molds, marketing, logistics, employee cost as well a ton of other overhead and then pay the dreaded licensing fees. The ONLY way to bring the cost down is low profit and mass manufacturing, which in a limited edition item like this is difficult to do. I am shocked it's this low to tell the truth.

What do you get for that $ 600? the licensing and an accurate piece that is hopefully quality made. That again is a bargain given this type of prop.

I have made 7 proton packs myself. $ 600 for a fiberglass pack, just the pack is about right and nothing else.
Not including the proton wand. The extra parts that make it authentic, metal pieces and electronics will drive up your cost minimally another couple hundred, lights and sound the best you can do is now about $ 850, yourself.
For Anovos to do so with their overhead cost and licensing fees, outstanding. Most of those prop guys saying they can make a pack cheap would sell a similar product for a minimum of $ 1,500 and probably much much more. Good packs can sell over $ 2500.
And you have GotMaul working on this, a long long time GBfan member who has in the past made the best fiberglass shells for the GB community and put that experience and knowledge into this product. THAT in itself is quite the bargain.

@mluder, any updates?

Nope - I paid for shipping 6 days ago (as soon as I received the e-mail). Since then I have gotten no shipping confirmation and the order shows "unfulfilled" on the website. Unfulfilled sounds about how I feel. LOL. I have e-mailed their support for an update.

Cheers
Steven

Update!!! My email to support must have unstuck whatever got stuck. It’s in its way and should be in hand on Friday.

Here are some photos of the parts in the kit. I also posted'em over on the GBFans forum.

One of the parts in my kit was broken (theres a photo of it in the batch I've attached). It will be an easy fix, but I'm still gonna try to get a replacement from them. Who knows how long THAT will take.

I also havent received the Alice pack frame yet. I'm assuming their shipping them out seperately. It's weird though, since I got an email a long time ago wuth them telling me they're in stock and waiting to ship around the same time as the pack...

That looks pretty good. The details seem a bit soft. I'll probably end up using my Matty wand but all in all I'm glad I got one.

Cheers
Steven

More metal than expected! Very nice.

Are the detail pieces black resin? Or painted?

What the heck is going on with the "weld" on the thrower? Yikes. The wand overall looks pretty sturdy at least.

It's cast in black. Ntohings painted. On the piece that broke, it almost looks like Smooth-On Onyx

Why is it so soft/warped looking? The originals were quite warped, so I can understand that, but these look really really soft.

The photos may make it look a bit soft with the glossy black surface. I have purchased a few different shells and they allow seemed to be about this quality. by the time you add the parts and detailing, it start to appear a little more defined. I plan on painting the surfaces with a dull black primer paint.

So a new announcement today (yesterday?) that a NEW "Spengler" Hero pack is coming out?

I'm all for new stuff, but maybe wait until you've at least delivered the kits?

I'm not sure I understand their marketing strategy.

It's very accurate. You can always source real parts, although this pack looks to do a great job overall. I would say at the least, it makes a super base to work forwards on and frankly, for the smaller electronic parts that woudl make thew difference, you have an excellent overall replica. Having been in the GB community for well over a decade and having built many packs over the years, I look forward to getting these.
