Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm (after 2021)?

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Is Kathleen Kennedy in hiding? It would be great if the fans and backers heard from the President of the company after the franchises only failure on over forty years,

The only official word from Lucasfilm since the Solo opening came from the distribution manager and that`s it. The reports of her imminent departure have now even gone mainstream and still silence. I know major announcements and staged on set pictures are her thing but hey, maybe communication isnt her thing, thus having to reshoot 80% of Solo.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

I think the re-shooting is powers that be - possibly beyond her - chicken out.

Rogue one was supposed to be a war movie. It wasn't. It got changed to standard star wars fare after the war movie was roughly edited (ish).
Solo was supposedly a comedy - until they saw enough to change their minds. It changed to standard star wars fare as well. That's likely a good thing. I think one of the original bits that made were the 'thumbs' joke which was just lame.

Seems to me that it's a lacking courage of conviction. If you wanna do a different style do it and deal with it. It MIGHT actually work. You won't know until you try.

The bit of war we saw in Solo - a full flick of that looked like it coulda been really cool.

I'll toss them some free advice. If you wanna do the comedy, horror, war, romance or whatever in the SW universe - take it out of a known era. Don't focus on whom we already know because we already know them in a serious context. If say, Captain America Civil War was made along the lines of Guardians - it would not have worked. Just wouldn't. But you start a fresh segment with unknown characters (screen wise) and do that format, it works gang busters. If you wann bring them into the main fold down the road, you can. But it's much harder to change the context of, say, Han Solo who's been in 4 serious star wars movies and make his 5th appearance a comedy.

Honestly, NO amount of defending can save THAT movie! :lol

Is that the one with the balls?

Amazing.

I'm gonna defend it cuz I'm in a mood!

It was one of the most fun movies I've ever watched, cuz I watched it drunk with my "80's Transformers G1" obsessed friend.

His constant rage spilling of his drinks had me in stitches.

Highly recommend.

I'm not a KK fan, and I'd like her out, but I worry there could be backlash to all the negativity.... sort of "Well we can't kneel to Star Wars outrage... let's double down! KK is now in signed to another 10 years!"

Like they were whispering "hey... we should drop her..." then the internet gets ahold and it changes to a loud, "WE WOULD NEVER!"

Just saying.

I've SEEN it before.

I worked on Thomas the Tank Engine... their fan base is small, but loud... and OBSESSED... Those Thomas nuts would drive people crazy to the point that the heads would let the stupidest stuff happen to the property just to annoy them (at least it felt that way)

*btw Thomas hasn't been in our studio for 7 years and fans still show up at the gate begging to see the trains that we no longer have.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

I'd actually rather see more of a focus on regular people than on the superpowered space monks. It's one of the reasons I really liked Rogue One.

I think many people would like this but, problems with Rogue One technically aside, the unfortunate thing about Star Wars is that if it's not got ideas of the Force somewhere in it, Jedi, or some big, grand conflict; it's just "John Swashbuckler dicking around in space." I'm not saying keep things set in the Galactic Civil War era, but unless a new threat is established, a groundwork laid for something new to go off on, we'll just be running in the same old circle.

It'd be like a Star Trek series without people in a ship exploring the universe.

How incredibly obtuse of you to paint everyone with the same broad stroke.

I was asking why we havent heard from her since the opening of Solo, not if you think the reports of her demise are true or not.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

We haven't heard from her because, once again, angry voices on message boards, fanboy podcasts, and youtube shows DO NOT MATTER and are not representative of the world at large.

I'm sure she's looking at the Solo take and planning to make sure it doesn't happen again, but beyond that, she's probably busy doing her job running the biggest franchise on the planet and not hanging out on internet message boards.

She doesn't owe anybody an explanation or a check in.

Wook come on. The slug in ESB is precedent for vacuum living critters.

He only poked his head out for a second. That is a far cry from whales who can swim/fly in hyperspace.

Certain liberties with science (as we know it) are made in Star Wars, like the sound of explosions in space, etc. But when people like Filoni push the envelop so far, it strains credulity to the point of breaking--to the point of absurdity--to the point of yanking us out of the fantasy. Someone with a high-SWIQ doesn't let this happen. Filoni did. Maybe he'd be more serious-minded with a live-action feature. But maybe not.

I know... I was just using it as a jumping off point.

And I didn't comment if they were true or not, I just said all the chatter about the rumor is probably WHY we haven't heard.

For example... if they were planning on having an announcement of her leaving LFL after the HUGE SUCCESS of Solo, then that was instantly killed when it bombed and everyone was saying "yep she's out!"

So instead of announcing her stepping down, she's now in hiding while this blows over. No announcement was made, possibly to look like Solo and the negativity wasn't the reason.

That's my poorly made point.

Thats fair enough but the departure rumours are very recent, the Solo fiasco is nearly three weeks old.

There was a vacuum-living critter in Solo too.
Also, that asteroid in no way had enough gravity to hold an atmosphere capable of sustaining a slug that size.

Yup...

Pretty sure though that when the movie bombed, the studio had a "everyone stay off social media til we figure an angle"...

And now they've been too quiet.

I imagine they're walking around their social media spaces like "a quiet place", not wanting to draw ANY attention.

Though with that analogy I'm not sure whether Rian is the kid putting a battery in the spaceship, or the one lighting off fireworks to distract...

To be fair, tentacle porn space squids that hang out near black holes should not count.

Yeah, and that was horrible.

Also, that asteroid in no way had enough gravity to hold an atmosphere capable of sustaining a slug that size.

Oh FFS, and explosions and ship engines don't make sounds in space! Did you not even read my paragraph on acceptable scientific liberties?!

Agreed. I might add that if that policy on social media was put in place a long time ago, like just over a year there may have been a lot less unnecessary bickering among fans online. And Johnson should have had his phone taken away first.

Re: Kathleen Kennedy to step down from Lucasfilm?

Sure feels like KK wanted to kill off the “old” Star Wars. Mission Accomplished. Too bad the “replacement” is complete garbage. Doubt Disney will fire her, and if they do, the narrative will be that she got ousted over Star Wars fans rabid racism and sexism:rolleyes
