Some things that made me happy:

Uncompromised world-building. Asgard should have been done at least this well. (Too bad Asgard is all blown up now.)
Even secondary characters are fully realized and well-performed.
It had the confidence to stand on its own without having to lean on MCU cameos.
It teases at tropes but thankfully drops them - e.g. Ross didn't get the self-sacrifice death scene.
Killmonger - especially his spirit-trip to see his father and, in retrospect, the opening voiceover between Eric and his father "Baba, tell me a story ... about home." Makes me tearful to think about this boy's arc. Unforgettable.
M'Baku - I love this character.
Female roles shined so much.
While it alluded to sociopolitical issues it didn't seem eager to leap completely into allegory.
No buildings fell in the third act

Low points:
Maybe a little more CGI than necessary.
Fight choreography/editing - B+ (Russsos in Winter Soldier and Civil War set a very high bar for action.)

Winter Soldier stinger - Did anyone for a moment think there might be something between Bucky and Shuri? I really hope not.

We got home from seeing the movie a little bit ago and I am so happy with it. The performances were amazing, and It was wonderful seeing the movie so joyfully embrace Africa and its varied cultures, as well as delivering vital messages that need, and should be, addressed. I wish I could afford to see it again in IMAX.

Fine film. The supporting cast was great, (his sister stole the show) and while I never was rooting for Killmonger, it was nice to have a villain whose motives made sense.

And yeah, it would have been fantastic to have some sort of scene with Jordan and Chris Evans. One little throwaway fire reference... oh well.

I liked it. I had no idea what was going to happen so I was really intrigued. My 16 yo son was disappointed. Over hyped.
I do think it is a little violent for young kids. I think it actually glorifies violence despite the "we are a peaceful people" message.

Both the wifey and I loved it as another of Marvels great accomplishments but I was a little on the edge with political overtones like another said... Edgey Yes ....

It was pretty good. A bit upset that Killmonger throttled Tchalla so badly, I was hoping he would have used some underhanded trick to gain the advantage in the fight. That was really the only thing I had a problem with. Oh wait the Rhinos threw me for s loop :lol

How was the CGI? It seems like each marvel movie tgat comes out relies on CGI a little more than the last. Some parts in the last few movies have started to look Bay-formersesque and it's been a big turn off for me.

I thought that the CG was very well done, only twoi complaints about it.

I thought that the comp work during the ritual fight scene wasn't that well done, it just sceamed comp to me.

The only bad CG CG were the war rhinos at the end, they could have been rendered/comped better. However, I had no problem with them being CG though since there's now way to have done them using real rhinos.

I saw it Friday night in IMAX 3D and absolutely loved it. I would have posted my thoughts sooner, but I've had a busy weekend.

I want to begin by saying that the audience in my theater was probably the best I've ever been with. The energy in the room was excited and positive all the way until the lights came back on, which was really fun.

As for the movie itself, I thought it was great. I have a few gripes here and there, but overall it's a damn fine addition to the MCU and a very special moment in cinema as a whole. The first half felt very similar to a Bond film, which was really cool. The visuals and art design of Wakanda and their tech was extremely impressive, although it did feel a little odd that the Wakandan culture is still so primitive/traditional in dress and rituals, yet their technology is literally out of this world. However, this primitive, ritual driven society was actually super interesting and beautiful to watch on screen, so it's not even a big deal.

Story/Characters - I thought that the story was intriguing and well thought out. It takes a while for this story to focus in, but once it does it really delivers. It's character-driven, and rightfully so, because there are a boat load of amazing characters to explore in this universe. Chadwick Boseman doesn't disappoint as the cool and level-headed T'Challa, but the real standouts to me are Shuri, Killmonger, Okoye/Nakia, and Klaue. Shuri is easily the greatest character in this movie...she's so charming and has such a fun relationship with her older brother. Michael B. Jordan kills it as Killmonger (no pun intended). It's been said many times before, but Killmonger is by far one of the best MCU villains to date. You can actually understand where his objectives and perspectives come from, although I could have done with a bit less of the heavy-handed comments he makes throughout the film. It's not necessarily that I found them to be upsetting, it's just that they didn't feel like they fit entirely within the context of the film itself. Also, I'm bummed that he dies at the end. Moving on to the incredible women in this movie...Okoye and Nakia. It was so nice to see such well written, strong, and beautiful women kick serious ass alongside our hero. Both characters were a favorite part of the film for me. Finally, Ulysses Klaue (RIP). Andy Serkis finally gets to show his actual face, and he is absolutely hilarious. His over-the-top goofiness helps even out the mostly serious tone of the movie. Also bummed he's killed off too as I would have loved to have him pop up again down the road as the annoying enemy of Black Panther.

Tone - Speaking of the serious tone of the movie, the humor is much more subdued than the other MCU movies. That's not to say that it isn't funny, because it certainly has its moments, but overall it's much stronger because it focuses more on the drama between the characters and the nation itself.

Music - The music is phenomenal. Maybe the MCU movie with the most personality in terms of music in my opinion. I do wish they'd included a few more songs from Black Panther: The Album though (which I'm obsessed with btw. If you haven't listened to it yet, do yourself a favor). There were some great moments they could have added some more songs in. I particularly liked how they differentiated T'Challa and Killmonger with music - T'Challa with the traditional Wakandan sound and Kilmonger with the modern hip-hop/R&B beats.

Gripes - My first complaint is the fact that vibranium is essentially the magic answer to any problem. It seems like a bit of a stretch, but I assume that's just how it is in the comics as well. My second complaint is that some of the action scenes felt too over-the-top for me. Namely the South Korea car chase scene. Overall, the choreography of the fights scenes could have been improved greatly, specifically during the casino brawl and the end battle between T'Challa and Killmonger. They weren't bad, they just could have been better. Finally, I thought that the CGI work was lacking throughout the film. The car chase scene, the Warrior Falls scenes, and the T'Challa/Killmonger battle on the train platform come to mind. I guess I just expected a little better from a Marvel Studios movie in 2018.

I loved this movie though and enjoyed it a lot more than Thor: Ragnarok. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again soon and spending more time in Wakanda in future installments. Wakanda Forever!

Winter Soldier stinger - Did anyone for a moment think there might be something between Bucky and Shuri? I really hope not.

Ermm...no. She was fairly kind and helpful with Ross as well. She is the one looking after Bucky and building him a new vibranium arm (hence the line, "You brought me another broken white boy to fix" lol), and she'd have it no other way. Her character was pretty rooted in the sarcastic, helpful kindness of a 16 year old. Bonus being she's a genius.

Not just that but the racism towards whites. It was pretty hard to watch

Not to start an argument here, but I really have to ask, what part displays racism towards white people??? Shuri saying, “You brought me another broken white boy” to fix is the only thing I can think of. And don’t give them crap about that Colonist BS, because it was funny and true too :lol

Hate to bring up this subject again but once again there is a real disconnect between the RT user rating and real audience exit polling from Comscor and other services. RT really does seem vulnerable to “gaming” the user score.

Yeah the white colonization and subjugation of Africa is a point of historical fact.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed the film.
I bought the Art of Black Panther to join my Marvel Art book collection and thought I would share a look at all of the beautiful concept art as conceived by the art department.

Enjoy.

The GF and I saw it last night and we both thought the same thing, it was a good origin story, we were very entertained, and overall enjoyed the film. It did however have some problems. Unfortunately in the theater we saw it in, we were sitting next to some loud mouth guy that had a comment for every single joke, or event that happened in the movie, and it was super frustrating. I told the guy to knock it off, but he refused, also, someone brought 5 3-4 year old kids, and they were running around the theater, talking, playing, and pretty much being a distraction the entire time. I hate that stuff. Pisses me off.

Really loved the female characters, the character designs, and the costumes. A few gripes were Vibranium being able to do almost anything. Some stuff I thought was rad, but other stuff I was like "dude thats magic". Also, I didnt like Kilmonger, I thought his motivations were kind of dumb, and with all of his military training/honors, I doubt he would have acted how he did all things considered. I also didnt like T'Challas best friend, and Michonnes love interest betraying them. It was kind of ridiculous, just cause that guy killed Klaw? Also didnt like how M'baku became comic relief. I thought it would have been cool for a honorable speech considering he saved T'Challa etc, but they made him be goofy. Just fell flat for me.

I thought the broken white boy comment was great, I figured she was talking about Bucky. Speaking of, what was the time frame of this film compared to Civil War? How long has Bucky been in Wakanda?
