BTTF Plutonium Case Thread

that is really good to know! when you call to place an order is that what you say? bttf case specs?

Yup! @rkpetersen did all the legwork, he should get the credit. See his posts here for specific info:

Frank is still at Anvil. He helped me make my mini Plutonium case based on these specs.

I might look into doing one of these, and I might make a bunch of cases for other things as well. Doing solid rivets would be the hardest part. I have ordered a laser cutter that might help cut the sides. I'll have to find a source for yellow ABS. I found this place http://www.diyroadcasesstore.com and there are a bunch of others that sell case parts.

So I just got my case last week based on this thread and the info to call Frank at Anvil. It looks great. So now that I have it. I need to make the template for the "Plutonium Handle with Care" sticker or in this case I am assuming I will have to paint it on to make it look right. Does anyone know what the size or font was used on this?
Any help would be great. Thanks!

Have done some work on my Case that i started in 2012....
Have done 142 pop-rivets today and have about 94 left to do.. My hands are gonna feel so bad tomorrow.. Feels like i should invest in a airpowered rivet gun instead of doing it by hand.

Contec – would you recommend having a crack at building your own?
Obviously this one has taken you quite a while (I assume you've had many more important tasks to tend to!) but it's starting to look fantastic.
Would you say it's a one-day build, or a weekend job (rivets included) if you were to have a good solid build session?

I'm thinking of picking up the Anvil case when I'm in the States later this year, but at the same time, if I could spend a fraction of the money and build it myself if it's simple enough, I'd almost rather do that since it seems *relatively* straight forward.
I remember you linking to some materials earlier in the thread, however they were based in Europe and not too practical for me, so I'd have to find my own somewhere, but I figure that wouldn't be too difficult...

Depending on what sort of tool you have, the work will run a lot smoother. I did not have a good miter box saw to cut the 90 degree angles so i mine are a bit wonky, but they will be mostly hidden by the metal brackets at the corners. I still have a few kinks to work out with the edges.
The build is pretty much straight forward. Build a plywoodbox , paint it , cover the sides with metal edges and attach locks and what ever.
This page show how you can do it : http://www.flightcase-brico.com/en/content/6-general-flight-case-assembly-instructions

I feel your pain. 200 rivets and counting!
I'm just constructing a large flight case myself - not BTTF, but for a studio scale model.
I bought a used flight case from gumtree/craigslist and stripped all the parts off it - much cheaper than buying them.

I found this instructable which was really useful:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Flightcase-pedalboard-for-a-multifx-guitar-process/?ALLSTEPS

The key to building one of these is to build a fully enclosed box then cut it in half to form the top and bottom.
That way you dont have to be super accurate, and the top and bottom will match perfectly (and it saves time).

sorry for the confusion, i should have done better research, did you build this box from scratch? or did you have to remove the factory rivets for more accurate ones?
Its made from scratch.

Yeah... did not do that :p , I cut out and made the top and bottom separately , so its a little wonky, but i will make it fit. Wanna make another box now that my father have got himself a nail-gun. Might not be a bttf one but a larger, and then i'm gonna build it the correct way .

To add to that. Anyone that does it this way would need to account for the thickness of the blade cutting the box in half and make the box that much taller, because the blade will cut that much away.

Actually, I think you would need to make it a little shorter as the locking strip will add height once fitted.

Tongue and groove extrusion is 1/4", plus the 1/8" for the saw blade kerf ( 3/8" overall )

The extrusion increaseses height while the cut decreases it, so you would take the blade kerf off the increase created by the extrusion and reduce your sealed box by the result.

I'm in the finishing stages of my scratch-built Plutonium box, Everything is riveted and it needs the stickers and "Handle with care" text painted on the front. But i wanna add a little extra on my box and as we all know the original box was a Anvil box that have this logo on it :

As the reporter tells us in the movie that the box been stolen from "the Pacific Nuclear Research Facility"
I imagine it like a round logo that has something like these 80s looking reactors inside it in
small-nuclear-reactor-mini-off-grid-us-supplier_1.jpg

So i made this up in Photoshop and gonna print it on a laserprinter and stick it behind a piece of plexiglass with rivets onto my box.

Here how my box looks like at the moment. Need to fix up and paint the inside a little more.
