No Time To Die (James Bond 25)

Pity. Boyle is one of the best directors working today, and is one of the finest to come around the last 30 years. His touch on a Bond film would really be something.

Just because someone is the latest greatest thing since sliced bread doesn't mean he can make a particular kind of film. His ideas probably clashed with the producers and between the producer and the director the director is going to get the cut.

Reading the article, he apparently didn't want to do a big budget Bond movie in the first place. I get the impression that his leaving the project wasn't a big deal on his part. The producers and studio lose out more than Boyle.

He probably wanted to do a Bond film with some intelligence and depth. Oh, nooooo, said Babs, we can’t do that.

And we insist on invoking the memory of Vesper Lynd yet another time.

If the papers are to be believed, there was some sort of disagreement over casting decisions:

‘Danny Boyle quit new Bond movie 'over casting row with Daniel Craig on who should play film's Russian villain'

Now sources claim it was a row over the film's Russian villain that caused the Oscar-winner to pull out, with hints of a direct clash with the film's star, Daniel Craig.

On Tuesday, the news was announced in a statement on the official James Bond Twitter account, saying: 'Michael G Wilson, Barbara Broccoli [producers] and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25.'

But an industry source said the row began over whether to cast little-known Polish actor Tomasz Kot, 41, as the film's primary villain. Producers are said to be in the final stages of casting.

The plot is rumoured to involve political tensions with Russia, with producers keen to promote a 'modern Cold War' feel.

It has also been revealed that scriptwriter John Hodge has left the film.

Just...don't do what Spectre did. Please?

Just meaning you want them to do a better job? or is there a "well known problem" with Spectre that I'm missing? :p

Spectre was less than I'd hoped for, and was a little more "all over the place" than the last few, but it's certainly a solid Bond movie to me (Skyfall did set a bar so high that I'm not sure they're ever going to hit that mark again). That said, while I'm a huge bond fan, I also get that they are what they are. they're not meant to be intellectual exercises in story telling; just a pretty fun, tacky, spy/action flick with a ridiculous main character.

I’ve heard there was a disagreement about final approval on casting the villain, on Bond dying at the end, on a #metoo theme,... (rolling my eyes in exasperation) I give up.

Next we’ll hear that the story is that Bond has reached mandatory retirement from the field age of 45, has to train a replacement OO7 who will be … gasp! …*a woman (Lara Pulver?),… Bond refuses, kills M, fakes his own death, but leaves the keys to the Batcave, I mean the Aston Martin, to Q, who will take over.... With Martin Freeman playing M.

Nothing will surprise me. I will probably not see Bond25 until it’s free to stream, like I did with SPECTRE (which I couldn’t even watch in one sitting). They’ve lost their way so far off the track that the possibility of a classic Bond film has been lost forever. Casino Royale was the last.

Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective S1, Beasts of No Nation, Maniac) will be directing Bond 25.

"Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that Bond 25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020. “We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure," said Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli."
