Rocketeer costume

I'm currently working on a rocketeer costume, and I'm currently building the rocketpack. I lucked out and found boots, jacket, and helmet on eBay. The jacket isn't perfect, the middle top button is out of place by a couple inches, but for the price and it being leather, I'm happy. I'm making the rocketpack out of craftfoam, using pepakura pattern I found at heroes workshop. It's coming along pretty well, but I'll have to reinforce a couple places. I plan to build a battery powered smoke machine, and put LEDs in the rocket engines to give it the flame effect. I don't have a harness drawn up up, but I'm going to try to make one with some marine vinyl I bought. It would be greatly appreciated if someone couple give me an idea of the belt size on the harness. Right now I'm thinking of making it 1" wide, and 3D printing the buckles to fit. I mocked up a buckle and printed it, but it's not quite right, the size looks wrong to me. I'll probably scale the buckle pieces up a little bit so they look better.

Oh, and here are a couple shots of the rest of the costume. I'm thinking a flag and an air soft c-96 pistol will be the best accessories for the costume.

Tonight, since I last posted, I've made a fair bit of progress. I've gotten the rest of the body pieces cutout, I've got aluminum wire glued into several places to provide support and shape to the rocketpack, and I've got one of the cones mostly glued together. Depending on how work goes this week, I should be able to get the rest of the templates glued, and the pieces cut, as well as getting the rest of the main body finished. The front panel will be made so that its detachable, that way I can get at the insides when I need to.

I think it's coming together pretty nicely.

Made a little progress last night, was only able to work on it for about an hour and a half, but I did get the other nose one glued. Hope to get started on the front panels tonight, and I'll have to glue in some support pieces for the magnets to mount to.

Got that center section made last night, just have to add in some foam pieces so that I can mount magnets so that the section can be removable

The only progress I made over the weekend was printing another buckle that's slightly bigger. I think I got it looking pretty close to the movie prop, and it'll work for now, but it's not perfect.

I was the Rocketeer for Halloween last year!
I used Pepakura files and fiberglassed a helmet but I didn't have much luck for finding files on the jet pack. I ended up just building one from scratch. Ha I believe we have the same jacket too!
Here are a few photos!image.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Here is where I got the files for my rocketpack, http://www.heroesworkshop.com/uploads/6/2/5/7/62578391/rocketeer_jet_pack.pdo

Yours looks good, really liked your helmet. I got my jacket from flesh and hide on eBay, I guess their warehouse is in Pakistan though, cause that's where mine shipped from.
Tonight I'm actually gonna be making a quick and dirty comic style rocketpack, I have a cosplay event at a restaurant that's owned by the lady that hosts the local convention.

Spent a couple hours tonight making a quick and dirty rocketpack, it's based on the comic book version of the rocketpack.

I think it looks pretty good for 4 hours of work.

So a local restaurant, owned by the lady that hosts hamacon in Huntsville Alabama, held a cosplay night tonight. I entered the contest and won, the prize was free admission to the minicon in November.

Did some work on the gloves tonight, gonna have to get more black dye for the black gloves, but the gloves I'm using for the button harnesses took color just fine.

Been working on my pack today, need to finish it in the next 2 weeks. The body shell is finished, just need to add the rivets. I'm gonna use thumb tacks as rivets, but I'll add them after I seal the foam. I still need to make the 3D printed fan, and a couple other pieces. I also still need to make the thrusters.

Is that Xcoser's Rocketeer helmet you bought?? love the jetpack build!

Yes it is, surprisingly good quality for the price, but you'll want to secure the fin if you order one. I left my costume in my truck the day of the costume contest. It got into the 90's that day, warmer in my truck, and the fin started falling out after that. I used lock tight brand superglue to glue it into place.

And thank you, I'm very happy with how it's turning out, though there are a few things I need to do, like add the vents that are above the trustees, and build the thrusters. I need to have it painted by next weekend.

Got the vents cut tonight, and got the vectoring fins made. I'll get the thrusters made tomorrow, and start sealing the foam.

Not a lot of progress today, but some. I had drawn up a fan and the screens that go on the rocketpack today and printed them, but sadly the fan didn't print correctly. I also got a fair bit of work done on the thrusters but not as much as I'd have liked.

So, after I got the thrusters done, I coated the whole thing in a glue water mixture. I used thumbtacks as my rivets, those were a pain. I had intended to cover it in resin, but since I'm nearly out of time I just sprayed it with plastidip instead. I painted the body a flat nickel color, and the flaps an aluminum color. Tomorrow I will paint the tips of the cones, and clear coat it. Friday I'll finish the harness and and install the electronics.
