1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hey SofaKing, you MUST have seen this, as it has been up since TFA, I'm guessing, but I'll put it up here anyway. The 360 rotatable image of the Falcon cockpit is pretty cool. I don't think it's CG? I can't tell, but it looks like the set...

Hi Gang,

I have been plugging away working 16+ hours a day trying to get ready for this weekend's Escape Velocity SciFi Con in Wash DC! I am both excited and exhausted but Jake and I have made some serious forward progress! We even had a visitor named Mike pop in and help out!

Here are a few teaser images before the show!

I don’t have that much Falcon knowledge but I know the Volvo panels pretty well. Loll. And those are either really cheap renders or they’re physical but they didn’t even bother casting from a real original panel which I would find really surprising but who knows!

It's interesting to me how off the TFA cockpit is in places. You'd think with the level of fandom in and out of the industry and modern design tools, it would be easier for them to get it closer than they did.

I suppose it's meant to be the result of 30 years worth of modifications and switching out panels with other Corellian frighteners at various junk-yards.

... or it's just a lazy desig team.

I don't think it's lazyness or lack of research/reference. I think it's more a matter of how much time and money it would take to get a 100% accurate replica, when only a few dozen people would be able to tell the difference. Keep i mind that the rpf falcon freaks must represent something like 0.00000001% of the overall star wars audience. So if getting it only to 90% close to the original is enough for the majority, they are not going to waste more time and money

Why is it no one complains about the differences between the ANH cockpit and the ESB/Jedi one? But they'll complain about the TFA/TLJ not looking precisely & unchanged like the one 30 years prior in the story. Man it gets OCD levels in here, I am guilty of it too. One must realize people that look at that kind of detail are only a small niche portion of the overall film going public. Probably not even 1 or 2 percent.

I wasn't complaining so much as just finding it interesting. I know that people who would notice or care are a small minority, but my point was that I would think that that minority would have been well-represented in the production. As far as the differences between ANH and ESB, you make a good point. I think the answer is that most people think the Empire cockpit was changed with purpose and to good effect, essentially becoming the "ultimate" version of the cockpit. Whereas stuff seen in TFA is more do to with trying to recapture that look but not quite getting there. I don't think that the actual deliberate changes, like that cylinder thing on the helm, are a part of that issue.
