1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

Still lots of work going on behind the scenes - 2D and 3D modeling, greeblie designing, etc... I'm thinking it might be time to start putting the cockpit back together. I need to start planning out the new canopy beams along with a new door and door frame.

The new laser cutter is CLOSE to being fully operational. We had to order a new power supply and it should be here by next week. Then... I start cutting NEW panels!

Hang on! Lots more to follow! :)

Now that's what I'm talking about there! Just classed the build up like 400%... then again, if you're in a pinch you can always just use the action figure. Might be cheaper and easier to obtain but almost as lovely! :)

On the subject of the seat posts... I thought that you were working on some sort of neato system to have the chair swing. Was that just too much work for insufficient gain?

Action figure? Might not have the same visual impact. ;)

Hey Y,

It's funny you mention that. Daniel and I were JUST discussing the seat posts vs swing arms vs a track system. I'm in favor of a track system that would travel back and away from the center console allowing for easy access. We can control the travel, stopping point(s) and weight distribution. I'm still unsure how Harrison Ford got in and out of these seats. From what we can tell the seats were def on posts with a possible adjustable slider - probably out of a car of that era.

It's a VERY tricky setup. If anybody has any ideas... we're totally open! :)

Ohhhhh.... and Brittany is perfect for it.

She was kind enough to agree to more photos... so we'll be seeing more of her soon. :)

Hi Gang,

UPDATES! It was time to knock out some of these little jobs that I should have done a while back! So...

Finished up the pin striping on the lower back panels

The console is getting light coat of satin clear - wait for it dry before permanently mounting everything

When I dropped the laser cutter off at the local Maker's I found this wire loom... I think it works perfectly in this mystery greeblie

Hi Gang,

Little updates... I'm still closing loop on a lot of little things...

The ESB panel had many changes compared to the ANH version. Including knobs. So, lets start by drilling holes for the pots
20150531_114950_zpsfgiejldq.jpg

I then dug through my collection and found these that closely resemble the ones used in ESB. I had to drill out the press fit to allow them to slide onto the post
20150531_115406_zpsvdwvpbxw.jpg

The rear was back far enough to bump the edge of the console so I drilled out the space required

Pressed and fit into place - and they turn!

I never finished bolting the nose panel cover plate greeblies in place. The lower bolts actually drilled directly into the nose panel - causing issues

20150531_120536_zps7qlzxiog.jpg

We still wanted to be able to remove JUST the cover plate so I had to cut down the bolts and counter sink an area deep enough for the nut

Trying some greeblies - I'm not happy with them at all. Gotta go back to EBay to see what I can find...

I was at the Long Beach Swap meet on Sunday and I came across something you might want. Its the sloped top piece to an ejection seat. After getting it home I checked it against the set seat and it does appear slightly different from the one used in the MF. If you can use it I would like to donate it to the project.

Hi D,

Thank you so much for the kind words! First, let me welcome you to the RPF! :)

The build has been nothing less than an adventure and we're hoping it's going to get more exciting! We hope for another 255 pages - knowing me, I'll still be tinkering with the dang cockpit! ;)
