SS 8 inch Millennium Falcon Build

IMG_0284.PNGIs this the one hung from the maedical frigate ?

The shots were added between making the 70mm and 35mm release prints in 1980. Two shots of the Neb B with the fleet around it (and yes, the Falcon attached).

very cool, looking forward to more of this thread. That giant falcon section is a trip: if that really was for the Lando puppet shot, then that implies the hatch is on the starboard side, putting it right over the ramp. Weird... Then again, there are unused shots with Hamill and Williams showing them on a set piece that would have them entering the Falcon through a hatch in the middle of the nose.. so.

If you study the layout of the Falcon then the whole Lando hatch scene is a trainwreck. It's not only where the hatch is located, but also the fact that Luke & Lando pass through some kind of intermediate tunnel stage before they reach the interior. There is no vertical room in the ship for that either.

Honestly I'm a little surprised that Lucas or Kurtz didn't call for something a bit more feasible.

They probably picked the location of the hatch first, thinking, "Its right above the lower ramp. And the exterior models already have a round thingy right there. That works." But then somebody figured out that it was a PITA to shoot the actors coming in that way, set-wise. What's raising Lando up? The Cloud City underside & sky should be visible up above him. Etc. So they whipped up the tunnel stuff just to get it over with.
