DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (Tome Worldcon Edition added)

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (in progress)

Somebody tell why I didn't order the Nabokov book when prices were reasonable? I'm very jealous of yours btw, Chris!

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (in progress)

How much did the holster set you back if you don't mind me asking? also UK based and looking at purchasing his for my Tomen.

USD$195.00 plus shipping. Let me know if you need to know anything else.

Hi guys!
I just wanted to post that I contacted Chris to ask where he got his metal badge, since I couldn't find these anywhere, and he offered to sell me his spare badge.
Thanks a lot Chris, it arrived and is a great addition to my wallet! Keep collecting, my Blade Runner collection keeps growing as well. :thumbsup

Cheers!

Oh, thanks a lot for writing this. I was thinking about you, and I'm glad to hear that it arrived no problemo. It was my pleasure to provide it for you. :)

Oh, and here's an update. I received the photo today. Here's my little love-letter to Rachael.

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (in progress)

Started building my old Pro that had been lying around for years. I'm really a rookie, so this is definitely not meant as an instructional post. However, I tried to stick with guides provided here on TheRPF.

Firstly, I give the barrel a whirl. I sanded it and polished it with some UltraFine and MicroFine 3M pads I have, and finished it off with some 0000 steel wool. I am pretty satisfied with the look as is, so I won't blue it. I might polish it up later with some steel polish.

Secondly, I spent time preparing the metal parts. I sanded and polished using the same pads and wool as mentioned before.
I could have spent more time on this process, but I didn't want to go too aggressive on the pieces. Overall, the visible pieces look quite nice with a decent even surface.

Then started the bluing process.
I am using Aluminium Black. Applying it directly with cotton pads. Long even strokes when possible, and patching up spots where needed. I experimented abit with wiping/rubbing it off after applying it. Wouldn't say I've gotten it down, but I feel that the results so far are acceptable.

To be continued.

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (in progress)

Just a few more shots of the blued parts.

I still have a few of the small bits and pieces that need bluing. Having the completed blaster lying next to me makes it easier to spot which parts are visible, and I'll probably restrict my bluing to these parts and ignore the interior parts, unless they are somehow visible.

The parts that I've finished bluing are currently soaking in oil, untill I am done with all the parts. Then, I'll buff them up with some metal polish.

For the side plates, I'm thinking of getting some glossy metal spray paint on top of a layer of primer. Not sure what other people have done here. If you have any recommendations, please let me know.

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (Tome Kit Build added)

DarthChrisDK love what you've done
In your OP you said you waxed the holster, Did you use a wax paste/polish or heat the leather and apply beeswax from a block?

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (Tome Kit Build added)

Decided on doing thest rest of the bluing today. All the small bits and pieces. I decided to just do a thinned down bath to dip the small pieces in.
The corrosion does become very black and matt - like coal, so once I picked them out of the bath (after counting to 5), I rubbed them a bit with a cotton pad and then briefly ran over the surfaces with some steel wool to bring out the metallic look. They have now joined the rest of the batch in the oily soak untill I'm ready to move to the next step.

I'll still have to do the painted parts. Just need to pick up the stuff I need to do that part - and I need to find somewhere to do it since temperatures here in DK are now below 15 Celsius.

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (Tome Kit Build added)

So I cleansed the pieces from the oil soak. However, decided to do some touch-up of the receiver and the bolt lever. So they are back in the soak again. Worth the extra effort, though. It's now or never. I used a dilluted version of the bluing chemical yet again. The rest of the parts are looking good. Once I get the receiver and bolt lever out again, I'll go over them with some Novus 2 to polish them. I'll finish the parts off with some Renaissance Wax.

Also, next step is to paint the side plates and the grip frame.

Re: DarthChrisDK's Blade Runner Collection (Tome Kit Build added)

Took the remaining parts out of the soak and polished the receiver. The coat now seems pretty even and has a nice metallic surface. Did a test fit for fun.

Right. So I finished building it today! Here's a few pics first, but I actually recorded the entire assembly too. Check it out below.

Played around with some studio setup and took a new pic of the "new" blaster. Still just the good old Blaster Pro kit.

Here's my video about the new Tomenosuke Worldcon Edition blaster.

Very nice indeed!!!! Does anyone know if the blaster that Deckard is using in BR 2049 is as (or meant to be) as weathered as the World Con edition? From what little I saw I couldn't tell what condition it is in. Also is it correct that Tomenosuke supplied the prop so did it have the weaver knob or BR2019 slotted screw? I have the latest edition Tomenosuke 2049 blaster so was wondering which would be screen accurate...weaver or screw?

No the weathering is not the same. If you look at DarthChrisDK's video (at 4:15 in the video) you can see the two blasters in the booklet and the weathering is different - most easily seen around the silver buttplate. This edition name does confuse me though because the weathering is neither WorldCon or 2049 but that said, it IS stunning.
Kylo1, the screw depends on which movie you are referring to. If its the original then you need the slotted screw, if its 2049 then the Weaver.

Cheers,
MARK

Thanks Kramstaar. I want to display my Tomen as the 2049 version. I have that booklet at home but haven't looked through it yet......guess I should have taken a look haha! :facepalm:lol

Love the video! I got a little snicker from of your comments on the receivers bolt action, hahah. It really doesn’t, but cool indeed.

anyways I’m extremely jealous and wish mine 2049 version would be here already. Lol.

cant wait to see that video on all your BR Props if you choose to do it :thumbsup

Haha, thanks. :)

I'll make a video soon, once I get the rest of my custom pieces made and have them.
