Star Destroyer....18 years in the making.....

Both of these are great. I really love how the small one turned out. You've done a fabulous job of meshing the parts together. You should be really proud of both of these. A fine job of modeling.

Great work....a quick question, what did you use for the antennas?

Thank you all, this has been quite a fun project over the years.

Great work....a quick question, what did you use for the antennas?

I went to this store called Skycraft in Orlando, Fl. http://www.skycraftsurplus.com/
This place has all kinds of crazy stuff, mostly for electrical type projects. I like going there to find random parts for models. However, the little parts I used for the antennas were in this case full of different type parts, but they weren't even labeled, so I don't even know what they are called or what they are even for. But each one was 5 cents, so good deal for 24 of them. I spent about 45 mins in there looking for things that could work.

Love this build. The details look AMAZING with the coat of paint to pull it all together. I myself made a Cardboard Destroyer a couple of years back, and I intend to go back and make a more refined version in the future.

Mine was mainly a quick build for my kid to play with, but the attention to detail and labour you have poured into this puts it to shame. Your build is inspiring

Thank you.
I looked at your build, and looks like it was a quick fun project. Not bad for 3 days. When I started mine I was in 7th or 8th grade. I sure never expected it to turn out like it did years later.

What an incredible project. You should be proud of what you've achieved, JediMichael, what a fantastic model! The glow-in-the-dark paint is perfect for the windows.

I'm also very, very impressed with the Shuttle in your first photo (the Lambda class has always been my favourite SW vehicle).

Thank you. Was working on this earlier today and will try and post some pics later.
That shuttle sat around for many many years, and last month my church had a Star Wars event...so I quickly sprayed the shuttle gray and hung it up. For not being anywhere close to actually done, looks pretty good from a distance. Although too messed up to actually try and finish it.

Heres an update.

Ripped off the old domes. Funny looking now.

Old and new.

Could not find anything that looked like the real thing ILM used, so I made something that was close as I could get it.

Then I used wooden matchsticks for the poles.............AND HATED THEM. I hated them so much I ripped them back off later on.....so I kept thinking what I could use.

Then I thought...what about very small copper wire. I got some, even took the coating off and now I think its about the best I'm going to get this part.

Now I have to do the other one.

Done.....I think......so that makes it 20 years in the making. Happier now.

Nice close up too see all the imperfections.

The left dome looks like its leaning a little bit, but only from a straight on shot like this, so not a problem to me. I'm very happy how this turned out and much better then those bouncy balls I started with.

Nice - Love this!

Those look awesome! The facets on your new domes really do look better than the dimpled version.

Its also so hard to believe a coat of paint can make something go from looking like a toy to an actual space ship, but it sure as heck did.

I've been quiet on this thread for awhile now, but I am astounded by your patience and perseverance JediMichael. Keep up the great work, we're loving being a part of your big project!

Thanks. It was quite a journey working on the project.

JM, I'd say the latest one is a perfect 'SD' (Super Deformed) Star Destroyer, or SD-SD! Like the 'Egg Plane' models that Hasegawa produces, it certainly has great charm for any Star Wars fan! Very nice job, mate!

Been transferring all these old 8mm video tapes. This tape recorded in summer of 1997, my brother was filming in my room and talked about our 2 wacked shaped SDs.
Always fun to add little details to old threads like this, as this was my first biggest created thread here on the RPF.

Today, it sits on top of the entertainment center with a few other things. I keep saying I could make a stand to at least display it better, as its just kinda balanced there.

And my brother's tiny one that I ended up finishing. In the kitchen and totally out of place with this other stuff.
