Dragoncon 2016

I finished the boots on Sunday, so I moved on to other items and got a design epiphany. I have a pretty slick 3d-printed/Arduino prop in the late design phase after only two nights of Fusion 360 & prototype part printing. Looking good in terms of getting it done for DragonCon. Parametric 3D CAD, translucent and flexible 3D-printed parts, Adafruit Trinkets and "neopixels".

So almost a week left till Dragoncon...So let's get the forum flowing, seeing this is the 30th year an anniversary, here's the question for everyone to answer...

"What was it that made you and enticed you to attend Dragoncon your very first time"?

For me it was this video...I watched it then watched it again like 4 times in a row and I was like "I have to go to this!"...2013 was my first year attending Dragoncon...This will be my 4th year in a row attending Dragoncon...

I'm a little upset that I won't be bringing a costume this year. Maybe next year I'll have something, but wearing my snowtrooper with as hot as it has been in Atlanta every year at DC, I can't find myself justifying that.

I'd bring my deadmau5 but didn't get a whole lot of response and one guy tried ripping one of my ears off :/

I live in Atlanta and used to go the parade every year. One Friday about 6 years ago my wife and I snuck into the Marriott and wandered around. That was it we have been there every year since.

Friends and girlfriend told me about their experience with it. Sounded like a fun time, and I've heard about it from online forums in the past, so thought why not attend? First one was 2011.

Sorry to hear that your not bringing any costumes this year, and some people at DC ruin it for everyone else. I remember 2 years ago a guy came up to me after the RPF meet, and asked me something then I said I had no clue what he was talking about, then he tried punching me, I avoided his fist, and tried to get away to find someone working the event to escort him out. The thing is holding a 10 foot pole with a RPF flag, doesn't make it easy to get away where he couldn't see me...I eventually got away and they made him leave.

Eh...that's some crap right there....it took a lot of strength to keep myself from sparta-kicking that punk....

I *may* bring my deadmau5 just in case I change my mind. I don't think I'll wear it for the RPF meetup just because I'll be getting in thursday morning so I'll just have to be sure to wake up in time for the meetup

Ah crap this is Thursday? I probably won't be able to swing by, got a photoshoot for our bunny hutch group then on to the bunny hutch party! :(

I never seem to have anything scheduled Friday and Saturday lol!

Has anyone tried the EZCooldown vests? After last year burning up in full costume, I decided to order it and going to try it out this weekend when I mow the lawn. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it or something like it before.

Yes I bought it and also the neck piece...To me it was worth every sent...I almost passed out in my Starkiller costume, with the ice suit on I can go comfortably almost 45 to and hour with out sweating at all, then go another 45min to an hour...they take about 15-20 min to get solid if you put them in ice water.

not frozen on left, and frozen on right
