my Ghostbusters props

Just got back from appearing as Ghostbusters at... a kid's birthday party.

Of course I took along my screen-accurate boombox.

The guns are made by Mattel.

The pack lights are from GBFans Shop.

And "Spongeface" on the GBFans Forums sells the interface that allows the Matty guns to control the pack lights.

My sons at a recent 'Action Heroes Night' at the local Chik-Fil-A.

I spent a lot of time tinkering some of the trim details on their packs while waiting for the GBFans light kits.

I was given a crash course in fiberglassing by a friend who lives an hour away, so that reinforced the shells from the inside.

He also gave me some Clippard R-331 labels. I then ordered some resin Clippards and crank knobs from Snow Builder (formerly KCGhostbuster) and he threw in the elbows as well.

I cut off the cast screw-heads and drilled/tapped the Clippards to take real screws.

I also driled/tapped the crank knobs to accept real set screws.

The Clippards match the look of the Matty versions very well (which is why I liked those particular labels from Kat, and wanted full-size R-331s instead of scaled-down versions in the size of the packs).

Today's milestone... working lights in both sons' packs.

I also got the HGA's painted and attached.

I've acted in a couple of episodes for local moviemakers HalfMinuteHorror.com, and when I heard scuttlebutt they were considering a Ghostbusters episode a couple months ago, I knocked out this little script. I also got to guest-direct it.

The cast was a mix of cosplayers and local actors/actresses. I didn't play a GB myself, so I could concentrate on directing, but did you spot my cameo?

Is it sad that the only money we spent to make it was the craft supplies for the 'Meet the Ghostbusters' sign?

I cut out the pieces and glued them together in like an hour while the camera was being set up for the first shot.

The whole shoot lasted four and a half hours from first call until wrap, which is about typical for these thirty-second movies, though we shot more dialogue than was ultimately needed.

HMH creator Keith Sims was cameraman and did the editing. He and co-producer Shina Southard have produced one new thirty-second film per week for the past year.

Playing around with some sound effects that were isolated from the movie soundtrack by my friend David in Germany.

alex get out of here!!! i love the pke!! what do i have to do to get mine to sound like that?!?!?! so excited!!!

never mind.... im guessing its all movie magic now? im so sad....

Don't despair... although my video has the sound effects added after the footage was shot (just like the real movies), David did install a soundboard into his Level Meter so it can do it live for public appearances.

Here is HIS video showing it off.

And best of all? He's working on achieving this with a Matty PKE Meter as well. Cross your fingers.

Partly inspired by the concern of Gladney, I finally got off my butt and shot a video I'd been postponing since late February.

Enjoy!

As I recently told Gladney when he once again checked on me, I *have* been busy lately, just very little of it has been prop-related.

Over the summer, my younger son and I took a bunch of free classes at the local library. Soldering, molding and casting, you name it. One of my favorite was on 3D printing, and I've been using the Ultimaker in the library's Collaboratory to print stuff I found on Thingiverse, and also drawing a few very simple geometric shapes in Tinkercad.

Here's my latest print, some custom yellow side tubes that fit onto the posts of the Matty Ghost Trap. (It came with 2 sets of pop-on posts that were red for GB1 and silver for GB2.)

I picked them up this evening about 4 o'clock. They were 70 cents each, as the library only charges by the weight of the printed piece.
