1/72 Cloud City Diorama with PG Falcon and FM Slave 1

Thanks for the heads up! I did see that some of the holes I've drilled are right in the posts of the hull...ugh... fun stuff to deal with! And with making an interior, that's going to complicate things even more.

Okay, so I'm making some progress on the lower ESB-style maintenance pits. They really are kind of a drag, though, since there's just so little reference material available for parts of the pits, and nothing that really shows all the relative positions of the parts. This is where I'm at right now with one of them. Comments, anyone? Feel free to highlight any areas where you think they're in error. (though keep in mind some parts are exaggerated slightly in order to maintain printability)

Here's some work I've been doing on my PG Falcon:

I thought the pits supplied for the Deago MF were pretty accurate looking , couldn’t you consider using them for reference ?

Thanks for the info on the front landing gear boxes now I can get started on the falcon .. that's some fantastic work you're doing

Nope! Unfortunately not. The De Ago and the Fine Molds models are based on the 32” model. The Bandai PG 1:72 is based on the five foot Falcon. As far as I know, nobody has ever produced a commercial model of the ESB-era five foot Falcon. We’re exploring new ground here!

Actually it’s kind of funny, since the five foot Falcon model had the ANH design from 1976 through to somewhere around 1978 or 79. That’s it. And it’s been in its ESB configuration for around 40 years since. Yet we have well-documented photos and commercial kits of the former only.

And here's the other side. This one was more difficult, as I can't find detailed photo refs for big areas of it. So I've cribbed detail from the ANH pit to fill in the blanks. Any thoughts? Does it look overdone?

Definitely looking great!

I’ve now updated my pit interiors, over the designs that I posted, so that the interior surface is horizontal and does not conform to the hull curvature. This makes the geometry a lot more complex. It’s what Bandai did for the ANH pit design, but I really can’t tell for sure what the ESB pits were like. Photo refs are ambiguous!

The photos I’ve seen seem to show that the underside pits are definitely shallower at the fore end and deeper at the aft. The question is whether the pit bottoms (or pit tops if you will) are level with the horizon, or if they’re slightly angled.

Okay. So I'd say these damn things are ready for a test print now.

Who here is actually doing a Bandai 1:72 Falcon conversion to ESB?

Back to the grind... Work on this beast continues... Starting to paint the odd colored panels and did some dry brushing on the rear engine area. When I do the initial dry brushing I use black rub n buff followed by pewter rub n buff.
