The Last Jedi Graflex Research - Spoilers inside!

The picture in question is from a 4K rip of a 4K version of the movie. It's just that the broken saber is so far away from the camera in the shots in that pic, that it makes it hard to see the details. Also, the person who ripped the movie could have used less compression or better settings in whatever program they used for the codec they used so it's not quite as good as it could be. A better rip or an uncompressed rip would obviously provide better screenshots but sadly, My computer (and most other's (Google it)) cannot play or rip 4K content from 4K UHD discs... yet. The odds of those shots looking better from the 1080p blu-ray are slim to none.

Ok, here is the broken Graflex in 4k by request.

Note: All pics are clickable. Once you click on them, you will need to click the image again on the new page that opens and then open that image in a new tab. Then in that new tab, click on the image again to view it at it's full 4K size.

Left and Top sections are unaltered from the source. Right and Bottom have had levels adjusted in Photoshop.

Here are five pics that best show the crystal in the top half of the Graflex saber.

Next up, Rain fight.

Wait, when in the movie did someone actually handle the Graflex after it was split apart??? I do not recall that scene at all!

Rey was in the falcon holding it in her hand when talking to Leia

Leia even mentions “this is all we need” and holds Rey’s hand which is holding the graflex

I don’t think she means the broken graflex is all they need though lol

I do appreciate how they genuinely tried to imitate all aspects of the Graphlex as much as possible (within their corner cutting) which is a far cry from the ultra thick walled chrome sculpture they made for Episode 3.

Why do I feel like I'm the only guy who likes the "skinnyflex"?:D Sure it's not your true Graflex, but I still love the variation on that classic look.

For me it was the materials. I like the graflex for looking like a device with mechanical parts, and the brushed chrome had a utilitarian look to it. The Ep3 one was just too bright and shiny for me. The mirror polished chrome with gold plates and shiny copper was a little too over the top.

I don’t know about everyone else but roys posters are 25% off right now for the next 2 days!

So let me see if I can resurrect this thread for a bit. It's been concluded by some that the TFA/TLJ Graflex has shiny tape on the bottom. And at least one prop that we've seen does indeed have this. Does anyone have any idea what this tape might be? I was thinking the foil ducting tape is what was used. But looking for more ideas!

Aluminum heating / ac duct tape would work great

That is what the stuff on the bottom of the Graflex on display at the last Awesomcon in Washington DC looked like - from what little I could see given the angle and lighting.

I don't think anything has been concluded or confirmed. It looks like it could be the case in some shots, but I wouldn't be 100% on it.

I'm not 100% sure either. Particularly these days where they tend to alter stuff all the time with CGI. With that said, it's awfully shiny in this shot http://graflexbank.com/images/gallery/vii finn/20.jpg

There wasn’t much cg prop changing going on in TFA as much as TLJ.

I feel as though it’s tape.. I can actually guarantee you it is tape. I can’t explain why/how but your gonna have to trust me on this one

Tape! :p

:lol

But why tape? Seems like a last minute kinda thing to me. Particularly considering that they went through the effort to create a clamp cover.
