Ive had my mind on this for a long time now and seeing 2storyprops make this too i knew i had to follow in there footsteps. My goal is to get this done by june 7 thats when my local comic con starts and id like to debut it there. But enough chit chat lets get started.

I first started off with an 14" acrylic globe and cut out the neck hole. Then i sanded the inside so that i can fiberglass it it will stick to the globe

While i let that cure i started on the ears. I cut them out of pink insulation foam board (2 pieces per ear) and i carved out a cavity for the threaded rods that were to be in between them. Then i glued the 2 pieces together with some left over smooth cast 65d

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400756795.328225.jpg

Then i started sculpting the ears swiss cheese cavities.

I primed the dome and i ended up rotocasting smooth cast 320 in the inside to make it even more rigid.

Next i cut out the mouth and made a template for the lip. Then i cut the lip out of mdf gluing in place using bondo and spot putty to blend it in

A quick assembly
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400757063.030061.jpg

Once the ears were done sculpted a coated them in some more smooth cast. Giving it about 3-4 coated

For the eyes im using ornament globes. I did a quick assembly to see how it all look but then i noticed that some measurements were off. So i pulled out my reference pictures and remeasured everything. The eyes were suppose to be tilted back just a little. I swear this has got to be the most precise dj head out there!

This is all about 16 hours of work and its all coming along good and fast. Be back with an update

Did a little more work today but not as much. I started my cutting out all of the cavities in the dome. I also cut the neck hole a little wider.

So in short supply of material i decided to work on the eyes. Like i said before i used 110mm acrylic globes. I cut out a buck that fits inside the globe and vacuum formed it with styrene. The added some screws and Waaloa!

Im back again

This time i started sculpting the cavities on the dome. I ised 2storyprops trick when doing this so i first put clay over the hole then sculpted it smooth on the inside then fiber glassed over removing the clay then adding some apoxie sculpt to make it nice and smooth

Then sanded one ear of its spott putty. Probably going to need about 2 more passes
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400905546.642136.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1400905555.724385.jpg

Then i went ahead and painted the eyes since they were already finish. Still deciding to put lights in these or not

I also started on actually wearing the head so i cut out some studs and fiber glassed them in place for a helmet. I also made a video of me wearing it that i will be posting here soon so stay tooned

Alot more sanding and filling on the ears. The left ear was way to bumpy so i used bondo to smooth it out

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401004295.565173.jpg

So next was to work on the last cavity in the dome. This cavity is going through the head so i sculpted out of foam board and fiber glassed around it. Then hollowing it out. Now i know what your thinking it looks like crap but trust me i will clean it up with apoxie sculpt

Back with an update. Well more sanding and filling with the ears. Slowly but surely there looking better. Might need a small pass of spot putty tho.

With the small cavitie hole thing i decided to fiber glass it in place. Then i blended it in with some apoxie sculpt

Looks really ugly but nothing like a little sanding and filling cant fix

I forgot to post about this. I got the materials for the mouth piece a couple of days ago. I would make the mouth piece out of perforated metal but it was a little expensive but mostly to get it in the shape i wanted i would need an english wheel....i dont have an english wheel nor do i knkw how to use one. So to compromise i decided to use the cheap route and use a metal mesh food strainer covered in white spandex

So maybe in the future i can replicate the real deal but for now its this

This is really cool! I want one now, I'll just add it to my list of a metric ***** Tonne of props.
Anyways nice to see the swiss cheese rather than the standard red fuzz. What made you pick the swiss cheese and do you have any problems with getting hot inside it?

Ive been wanting to make the cheese mai5 for a while now just because its different than all of the other heads and it would be more of a challenge to make. I havent really have a problem with it getting inside the head but maybe i havent worn it enough to experience it. If i end up havent that problem lll think about putting in a fan somewhere

Painting has finally begun! Plain and simple. Outside yellow inside black

I was going to add lights in the eyes but the eyes weren't diffused enough to look good but i already cut out the clot for the switch. So heres a switch that does nothing...
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401867030.434657.jpg

Then a glued in the mouth piece
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401867057.477379.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1401867066.849291.jpg

Full assembly kinda...99% done all i need is to put door trim around the neck but its pretty much done

Ill have some nicer photos of it hopefully soon along with some pics of me wearing it at some cons

This looks great! Great job throughout.

(I'm also very pleased that you actually read our blog post - most people won't read a single word we wrote prior to asking us how we made our stuff. Kudos to you!)

Hell i read that 50 times before building this. Wanted to make sure it came out as good as you guys were. Thanks:)

All you needed to finish off the look is to paint temporary tatoos on your neck and arms. Awesome work! I find it interesting that you used fibreglass so extensively. I've never used the stuff. As well, I like your technique of painting the smooth-on over the foam ears. I might use that in a project in the future. If I have the budget for it of course! Ever tried straight bondo over top of foam? I wonder if it is compatible...

Cheers,
mattermaker.

I was considering using bondo before i used the smooth cast. I picked smooth cast cause i thought it would be hard to coat the whole ears as to smooth cast just brushing it on. If it were just plain deadmau5 ears then i would use bondo instead.
