Zombie Steampunk laboratory

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - update

I am relatively new to building props at the level of detail that most of you guys do on this forum. The work here is absolutely amazing and I have learned a lot. Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question, but with regards to the effect on the skull. What is painters plastic and where would I look to buy some?

There are absolutely no stupid questions my friend. All of us start somewhere, and the folks around here are full of incredible experience and knowledge. My humble little projects are all a result of asking questions . . . THOUSANDS of questions. And believe me, the people here are always willing to help.

Painters plastic is very cheap, $1.00 - $2.00 at Home Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc. It is used to put over doorways, cabinets, furniture, etc while painting.

it looks like this:

Then i take it out, stretch it over what i want to apply it to and use a heat gun on it:

The heat gun melts the plastic in all kinds of great effects. Its easy to do, and you really cant mess it up. Once you apply it, you paint it and . . .

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - update

Try not to inhale the fumes. Some plastics can have *nasty* toxins.

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - update

That's a great tip! I always wondered how it was done :)
Thanks for sharing :thumbsup

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - update

It's kinda disgusting how you made an obviously fake skull look so grotesque. I love it! :D Great progress so far, can't wait to see more pics!

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - update

Nice! Yet also really, really gross.

Only thing that looks a bit iffy to me is the skeletal/zombie hand, the fingers could do with bending a bit? :)

Re: Zombie Steampunk laboratory - gore update
