Just started laying the major forms for this guy. Ignore the wrinkles, i just threw them in to give me some perspective. I'm almost done with the major forms and most of the secondary forms and soon I'll start refining it and adding some injuries and rotting etc...

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

You're off to a good start. Keep an eye on the lower jaw and chin area which seems a little lacking. Looking forward to seeing more.:popcorn

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Thanks Jay,
I'm going to build up the chin and jawline a lot more and potentially add some exposed jawbone somewhere in there. I always have trouble with my basic forms when it comes to human sculpts. How are they so far minus chin and jaw?

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Fixed up some major forms today. Just about ready to start refining.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Is it my phone or is every single one of his photos upside down?

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

It showed up like that on my phone too but the pics show right side up on the computer. Going to try to get some more work done on it today. I'm not happy with the anatomy of the zygomatic bone so I'll be shaving that down today and redoing it entirely.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Started the refining stage on the Zombie today. I am almost done it. Moulding should begin soon.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Very nice work, it really coming along. Be sure to document your molding and casting stage.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Thanks man, i really stressed the anatomy with this one. I think one more run with the cat brush and I can mold it. I'll be sure to document that for sure. It'll be a Hydrocal 2 piece for latex casting which is always fun. I learned this new technique for doing the pry points from a video on the stan winston school i'm dying to try out.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Final texturing done. I've drawn the midline on the bust already and should start moulding the front half sometime this week.

Wowzers!
Not sure if I missed it or not, but what type of clay are you using here?

This is Monster Clay. I used Chevant NSP Medium for a while and have completely fallen in love with Monster Clay. You'll get to see specifically why when i mold the sucker. It cleans out of the mold soooo easily. It is also super hard and holds texture well when it's hard. You can heat it up anywhere from slightly soft to liquid too and it is indefinitely reusable which rocks because when i use it i will liquify it and strain it to take out bits of plaster and whatnot. I also use it for doing lifecasts in place of pouring plaster for the positive to be corrected.

Good texture

Thanks! nothing beats the cat brush

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Here are some shots of the initial moulding process. I ran out of hydrocal so I'll have to buy more to do the second half.

Dividing wall built with keys. I sealed this with crystal clear before molding. I decided to use 4 polygonal keys since the dips where the ears are will act as keys too.

Here is the first half of the mould.

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt

Did the back end of the mold and demolded yesterday. Found some extra hydrocal laying around. The bottom where the flange of the neck is is a little thin for my liking but it'll work fine. I have to clean out the mold and then i'll do some shots and do my first pull. pics to come soon

Re: Zombie full head mask sculpt-First Pull Completed!

First pull out of the mould. Little rough so it'll be used to test paint schemes. I've got a second one already curing in the mould.
