Zeiram & Zeiram 2 - What do we Know?

If you want a FAMAS, you can have my old one. How much of it do you need?

Took the Dremel to my barrel today. Managed to get the smaller holes round. They perfectly fit the drill bit that was already in it. Lightly sanded the barrel. Gave the barrel a light coat of matte black. Tried to stuff the hollow area with Aves to add weight. Will re-sand & re-paint with automotive primer tomorrow after everything cures for 24 hours.

Tweaked the top-break release 'button' this morning. Built a dummy of the cylinder axle in 3D. Mated it with my front end. Have been tweaking the front end by going back and forth between the two files for the past few hours... On the plus side, now that I have the cylinder axle mocked up, I can put the cylinder into the assembly and figure out how long the top section needs to be. Am currently tweaking the front end; making it slightly longer (shouldn't be noticeable), moving screw holes, cutting out areas for the cylinder axle to fit in. Not finished yet, not by a long shot. Attached is a screencap; you can just barely see the cylinder axle (orange) inside the front end.

She damn well better, after all the work I've put into her... :lol ...I'm already fantasizing about the beauty shots...

This next set of parts may be keepers. Should be keepers. KInda bummed I had to revise the cylinder and barrel, but I suppose it was to be expected.... Just when I'd sanded the barrel into something presentable, too. All this new stuff is a week or two out... My incorrect cylinder will get here first... I suppose I could paint it up like a spare...

I'm also working on an AMEE battery from Red Planet, but that'll get it's own thread soon enough...

Got my (incorrect) cylinder in today. The polished finish is really much nicer than the unfinished White Strong and Flexible. The only downside is the possible smoothing of sharp edges, and minute change in external dimensions from the polishing process. We'll see how a polished barrel compares to my unpolished but sanded and primed barrel.

Ask and ye shall receive.

This shows my primed and sanded barrel (which I now know to be too short to meet the new cylinder) and my too-long cylinder in Polished White Strong and Flexible. The markings on the cylinder seem shallow to me, but I measured the depth on the kit and it should be the same. Can't get much deeper, anyway, or they'll cut into the bullet chambers. I plan to epoxy some BBs into the open spaces on the gun (to add weight), but I've misplaced my official Red Ryder BBs, and not I'm not sure if the gaps between the chambers are even big enough to allow that. There should be plenty of space inside the front body and rear body to stuff with Aves & BBs. New parts are about two weeks out. I'll actually be out of town when they do arrive, but as soon as I get back, I'll post pics.

Our story so far:

Here's my Enfield fitted with the (mostly) new parts.

The front end lines up pretty good. The pin hole and the hinge screw holes line up well. The cap screw holes are a little small and a little high. I'll have to tweak them with a drill bit.

The new cylinder works pretty well. The new barrel needed it's perforations drilled out, again, but is fine aside from that.

The new back end may be a little short, we'll see how it sits with all the parts on it. I'd rather not have to grind down the top break latch or hammer, but I may have to.

Just put in the order for the rear sight in "Frosted Ultra Detail." Should turn out nice. Shapeways has a new, slightly cheaper shipping option, which I chose.

Gotta get some BBs and epoxy to fill up these hollow parts...

I got most of the new parts in the 'polished' finish - the surface detail is noticeably smoother. I was worried about it rounding off sharp edges and corners, but that appears to have been minimal.
