Yu-Gi-Oh Millinium Puzzel

Hey all,

I am new to all of this, about a week ago I suddenly thought I want one of those robots from a game because it would be awesome! No body sells them and I thought it would be fun to make it, realising I have no idea where to start I figured I would start small instead with a Millinium Puzzel.

I have done some research and I know how the process works but if you would all be so kind and help explain a few things that would be great!

First off I will build it with wood carve in the details then use clay or putty I guess to make the detail that pops out (the eye). I looked up what other people use to add detail and it is something like A and B epoxy... What is that? And where do I get some?

Then in I would make a mould of it using silicone rubber I think? And that white card/foam board.
again if you can offer advise in this much appreciated, I have no idea what any of it is or anything so as if I was from Mars explain it all haha!

It kind of has to be a two peice mould because of the small details all around.

now it is time to poor the resin in the completed mould. What resin is best and how do I know what resin to use and all of that?
The Puzzel is made from gold so the resin should either be gold when it dries or I paint it gold. If I paint it gold I have read that I would need to put another layer of resin over the top to stop it from cracking the paint? How do it do this?

Then in boom Finished!

Is is that correct or am I missing something andplease explain as much as you can all the small things too! If you want to of course!

Thank you you all in advanced!

i will also use this thread to post updates of my process! Then soon I will hopefully be able to make my 4 foot robot!!! :)

Okay, let's see if I can help you...
First of all: welcome

it is something like A and B epoxy... What is that? And where do I get some?

What you mean is (I guess) something clay-like, and it's also called Plumber's epoxy, as you can use it in plumbing. It consists of two components that are mixed together, can be formed in whatever shape you want, and get hard after some time.
Where you can get it: depends on where you live. Since you're writing "mould" with ou, I guess that you're not from the US. But it actually doesn't matter where you're from, since you can get almost everything you need on the internet when in doubt.

Then in I would make a mould of it using silicone rubber I think? And that white card/foam board.

Well first of all, you don't HAVE TO make a two part mold, as you suggested. There are many different kinds of molds. The best for getting started is go to Smooth-On's website, I think they have some tutorials, of look for Brick in the Yard on Youtube, they have some pretty neat videos on moldmaking.
That foam board is used to make walls for a two part mold, it is often used because it's cheap and easy, but you can also take wood or thick cardboard or even lego bricks for your walls.
But what strikes me a little, why exactly do you wanna make a mold in the first place? Do you wanna make copies and sell them, or do you just want your very own Millennium Puzzle? If you just want one for your own, you can just take the one you made out of wood and paint it.

And just a question so I get you right, you want a static prop, right? The final puzzle, like an upside down pyramid. You don't want all those individual pieces that you can actually put together like a puzzle, or do you?

Thank you MadMike!

I kind of want to make a mould just so I know how to do it really for the experience and see how I get on with it. I could just paint the wooden version but it is more just to get a feeling for moulds as I have never done them before.

The end result I am just wanting a static prop, just something that looks cool :)

Oh and yes I am from the UK not USA. I am guessing it is all internet based for getting the equipment needed for the job.

Thank you again! I should start work on this next weekend maybe if I have the time!
